Is 50 Cent's Music Career Over?
Blog By WTF
In "Many Men" 50 Cent said "When I rhyme, something special happens every time I'm the greatest, something like Ali in his prime"
So is 50 Cent arleady pass his prime? 50 Cent's previous album "The Massacre" sold 1.4 million in the first week. "The Massacre" later went on to sell 12 million copies worldwide. It's been 7 weeks since his latest album "Curtis" was released and the album has yet to reach platinum status. The smoke has cleared and it's really time to weigh in.
The first two singles "Amusement Park" and "Straight To The Bank" failed to establish hype for the album. So the album got pushed back. 50 also tried to deploy his normal tatic of sparking beef before an album but that also filed to establish a buzz. First their was the fake beef with Kanye. Come on! Are you serious the guy dressed like Micheal Jackson for the Grammys. That's not beef. Then he tried to bait Lil Wanye after MTV named the so called best rapper alive but he didn't bite.
After being embrassed by Kanye with their 9/11 album showdown 50 had to do some damage control after he said he would out sell Kanye. I lost my money on that one. But ever champion has tasted defeat from the 45 Jordan to Ali.
"Curtis" was a celebrity mixtape. It really didn't have any direction. Even though it was 50 Cent's first album that had major guess appearances and production, his delivery just seemed lazy. Naming the album "Curtis" one would think he would let us in a little more on what he's about other then same recycled rhymes you hear on the tons of G-Unit mixtapes. "Curtis" should have expanded on 50's first verse on "Hate It Or Love It":
Comin' up I was confused, my mama kissin' a girl
Confusin' occurs, comin' up in the cold world
Daddy ain't around, prolly out committin' felonies
My favorite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody
I wanna live good, so shit I sell dope
For a fo' finger ring, one of them gold ropes
Nanna told me if I pass I'll get a sheep skin coat
If I can move a few packs and get the hat, now that'll be dope
Let's be honest G-Unit has fizzled out. Nobody from G-Unit has sold well since they first had fans screaming GGGGGGGGG-UNIT! That goes from Llyod Banks, Young Buck, and Tony Yayo. Even though Fif signed some other acts to G-Unit they have all been major dissappoinments expect for The Game. Mobb Depp went wood, Olivia's album never saw the light of day, M.O.P. has yet to release an album, Hot Rod sucks, Spider Loc is warming the bench, and signing Mase was joke. Let me repeat myself signing Mase was a joke.
Since "Curtis" failed to meet expectations of "The Massacre", 50 will release a new G-Unit album in hopes of re-establishing himself as the biggest thing Hip-Hop. But the first single leaked from the album "Wanna Lick" featuring Lil Kim suggest that the G-Unit will make the same mistakes as "Curtis."
But 50 is still not out for the count with albums from Freeway, LL Cool J, and a promise that "Before I Self Destruct" will have a gritter edge there's still hope that he can get off ropes. Now that'll be dope.
