I thought I'd share it with you: Working people frequently ask retired people what we do to make our days interesting. Well, for example, the other day I went downtown to go to the News Stand for the Wall Street Journal so I could track my investments. I was only in there for about 5 minutes. When I came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I said to him, 'Come on, man, don't you have anything better to do than write a retired person a ticket? Why aren't you out chasing crooks or child molesters...that's out of your league, obviously!!! He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a 'Nazi.' He glared at me and wrote another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him 'Barney Fife'. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Personally, I didn't care..... I came downtown on the bus. The car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said 'OBAMA' in 08. I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important to my health. 2008-08-27T08:34:29Z Dave Sawyer Something to Consider before you take the name of God in Vain http://sodahead.com/blog/12587
 Dave Sawyer

+6 raves
It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7): "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap." Here are some men and women who mocked God : John Lennon (Singer): Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him" (1966). Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times. Tancredo Neves (President of Brazil ): During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died. Cazuza (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet): During a show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: "God, that's for you." He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner. The man who built the Titanic After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: "Not even God can sink it" The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic Marilyn Monroe (Actress) She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: "I don't need your Jesus." A week later, she was found dead in her apartment Bon Scott (Singer) The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang: "Don't stop me; I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell". On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit. Campinas (IN 2005) In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend..... The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the car: "My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You." She responded: "Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, Cause Inside Here.....It's Already Full " Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken. I can't say, God will strike you dead if you do, but I wouldn't want to gamble on it, either. Death is coming to all of us, in any case. Will you be ready, or taken by surprise? 2008-08-23T17:16:32Z Dave Sawyer New Supermarket http://sodahead.com/blog/12441
 Dave Sawyer

+21 raves
A new supermarket opened near my house. It has the latest technology for marketing. It has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh. ~~~Many markets have this but in the new market~~~Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and the smell of fresh rain. Likewise, when you pass the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and you experience the scent of fresh mown hay. In the meat department there is the aroma of charcoal grilled steaks with onions. When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle, and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying . The bread department features the tantalizing smell of fresh baked bread and cookies. I don't buy toilet paper there any more. 2008-08-22T03:48:45Z Dave Sawyer Memories of 9-11 http://sodahead.com/blog/12384
 Dave Sawyer

+6 raves
In three weeks it will be 7 years since the twin towers in New York fell. I would like this Blogspace to be about what we remember of that day. The following poem is one I wrote five years ago: Remember . . . I Remember 9-11 Two years ago I woke to see Smoke rising to the sky From long familiar skyline scenes; At first, I knew not why. And then the newsmen told me how First one, then two planes struck The separate towers in New York's heart. It was too much for luck. For yet a third crashed in D.C., Exploding into flame. A fourth crashed in an open field, For heroes foiled the game. I saw the towers as they fell, First one, dissolving slow, And then, the second did the same And many died, I know. But many more, it seems, survived Who came to work too late, Or did not go at all that day; Was it Providence or fate? We witnessed many heroes made In saving many lives. And many left behind to grieve As parents, husbands, wives. We saw the strength of those who lived Courageously with pain, The rubble, ash, and sentiment Of all that did remain. The Nation gathered in support, For those who suffered loss; And many lessons we might learn And on our hearts emboss. Oh may we not forget that day, The paths the heroes trod, The empathy we had for loss, The faith displayed in God. by David E. I've been married four times: widowed, divorced, widowed, and divorced. You'd think that'd killed the romance. A few years back, I thought it had killed me, but God had other plans for me. My day started out with an e-mail from someone who had approached me earlier because of my SH profile; she said I sounded very sweet. You can read today's interchange on my Question, "Have you received scam e-mails recently?" I did a little research on the information she gave me, curious about where she lived, Dakar, Senegal. Her late father seemed to have been an important man in Rwanda, so I Googled his name and found an identical e-mail, except for the sender and receiver's names, sent to someone else a year and a half ago. Even the spelling errors were identical. Well, it had to be a scam of some sort. I sent her the nicest response I could, considering my disappointment that there was no real friendship intended there, and wished her? a happy Valentine's Day. Then I created my first Question (mentioned above). The new challenge was getting the graphics into the little photo windows. I ended up creating my Yes and No images with PhotoShop and uploading them. I guess that's how I'll do it in the future, too. Here's a poem I wrote ten days ago (note how it spells VALENTINES): Valentines are gifts of Love __we give our Valentine, And once a year we take a day __to strive to make Love shine. Love blooms again within our hearts, __revives the flickering flame, Each fading ember lying there __will suddenly exclaim, No obstacle or task too hard __forbids true Love to act. To Love, all things are possible; __this is our solemn pact! I feel again what first I felt __when on that smile I gazed. No other visage now it seems __could leave me so amazed. Each tender moment we have spent, __each passing memory, Still warms me to my deepest soul, __renewing Love to me. by David E. Sawyer -------------------------------- At the end of the day: I can say it was a very good day. I stopped two scammers and spread the word. I believe I helped raise spirits among the Soda Heads. I wrote one poem. I created my first Question/Poll. I added photos to my profile. I wrote my first Blog here - yeah, this is it! A friend came over and he and I watched the Pilot for Knight Rider. No romance, but a real good Do Good day. I hope everyone else had a good one, too. 2008-02-14T18:05:11Z Dave Sawyer
