I have not voted in many elections, because of my age, but I’ve voted in a few. I believe this will be my 4th time voting for a President. Now before every elections you see all kinds of ads…. Signs…bumper stickers.. you name it, it’s there. But this year seems to be a little different if you ask me. 4 Years ago during the Kerry/Edwards vs. Bush/ Chaney ticket, I recall seeing bumper stickers EVERYWHERE. On ½ the cars that were traveling the roads. And I’d like to point out that this wasn’t just driving around town, I drive on the interstate to and from work every day, and did so at that time as well. And I’m not talking just 5 miles or 10 miles round trip. My average round trip drive is anywhere between 50 – 60 miles. None the less, this election year I’ve noticed a major difference on the roads. The lack of support stickers for EITHER side of the fence. I believe so far I’ve only seen about 10 stickers for either party. And what about banners in peoples yards? I’ve only seen four, three of which are in my own neighborhood. And what about the HUGE signs you see on the side of the road as you’re going to the store? Or the Mall? MAYBE 2. 4 years ago with the amount of Kerry stickers I seen on the road, I would have thought that he would have won the election hands down. This year, It’s hard to see who is support who because it seems that no one is really advertising who they are going to vote for. I would like to note that I am not one for putting bumper stickers on my car, and I have never put one on my car for any Election as well. Could I all of a sudden be driving with a group of people that feel the same way? I highly doubt it. but that’s not the point here. Where have all those signs and bumper stickers gone for this election? What’s preventing people from showing the support that they once did years ago today? As for the two men that are running for President this year…well I’m finding more information that has been put out by the news more interesting as the days go by. For one I’d like to state that yes, I’ve been a McCain supporter since before the Primaries, yes I checked out all the people with their hats in the ring, even Ron Paul…... And yes, I have listened to the things that Obama has brought to the table, that’s only fair in my opinion. And you may ask, “so what stands out about McCain that keeps your vote on his side?” That is by far the EAISEST question I can answer. McCain is a WAR vet. McCain was a POW. McCain held out during the time he was a POW, did not give his captures the information they were seeking, and stayed true to the American Spirit. McCain understands RIGHT now what our Men and Woman in Iraq and Afghanistan are going through, how they feel mentally, emotionally, physically. True it is a different war, and a different time. But the fundamental spirit of each and every person on the lines out there is the same. The fears are the same and that is the fear of death and never seeing their families again. McCain understands that, and I believe if anyone can lead our men and woman in a time like this, it is McCain. He has the experience. He has the knowledge and he can deal with this issues in a way that will see to it that our Military has everything they need to succeeded and come home safely. He CARES about them and the first step to be able to sure that our Military has what they need is to know how it’s like to be them. He knows firsthand how it is out there. So his military record matters to me. Anyone that can help keep our Military safe, complete the mission and bring them home is who I want running the Country. I want someone who will stand up for America, not someone who will backdown and give into demands of other countries. I’m sorry, that’s what I see in Obama. He will not stand his ground and he will give in. Just like Clinton did with Korea. His hush money kept them at bay, but that’s not what should have been done. And as I watch the news I keep hearing how so many OTHER countries are pulling for Obama, backing him, giving him their support. Um….YEAH…..As I said in the last election, I do not, what-so-ever WANT a president voted into office that OTHER countries are pulling for. I’m sorry, that doesn’t sit well with me. Why on earth would any other country care about our politics unless they plan on gaining something from it. Why would you want to put someone in office that other Countries wants to see in office? Sorry, that’s a BIG red flag for me. That really makes me feel like something ISN’T on the up and up with that. So what about Obama and his ties to ACORN and Ayres? Well, I would have blown off the whole ACORN situation if it wasn’t for a few things. When your Campaign has given an organization like ACRON well over 800k to help with WHATEVER, something isn’t good there. I’ve heard that those types of “donations” stopped around May it seems. I’m sure someone could prove those types of things, I haven’t heard anything different yet so I would only assume that those donations really have stopped. But that’s not it. Everyone knows that ACORN was up to no good years ago. But yet Obama did give them money, and not just 10k (which I would believe would be a drop in the bucket for him) we’re talking 800k that’s an awful lot of money to go to an organization that seems to be 1. Pro obama, 2, obviously committing acts of voter fraud, 3. driving people TO the polls and telling them WHO to vote for. Now you could TRY to counter this one, but I seen it on the news, I watched the lady being quested and she seemed very proud to be telling people WHO to vote for. You can’t put “spin” on that one . she was asked “are you telling people to vote for” the lady said “yes” and they asked “who are you telling them to vote for?” and she flat out said “Obama.” Voter registration fraud along with telling people who to vote for….that is not a corporation that I would want to be associated with. And what about Ayres? Good old William Ayres. We’ve heard all the stories now. we know that Obama was not just an acquaintance of this person. These guys had some sort of relationship together. It went past just a polite wave in passing. You can try to sugar coated it all you want, But Ayres IS a terrorist. He still is, you don’t change those types of things. Anyone with ties that close to him as Obama has is not a person that I want in office. And the whole “I’m going to cut taxes” Listen up, I’m a middle class worker. As it stands now when I file my taxes I get just about EVERY penny back. I understand that’s not how you should handle your money by giving the government an interest free loan or whatever, but I have my reasons. And spreading the wealth??? THIS IS AMERICA NOT RUSSIA that crap didn’t work in Russia, don’t you remember? And as a sign that I read on the way home last night stated, and I have to agree with 100% “Silly Liberals, paychecks are for workers” I’m not telling you WHO to vote for, I’m just stating on WHY I’m voting for who I am. If you vote for Obama, that’s fine. If you’re going to vote for McCain, that’s fine too. But please whatever you do, GO VOTE! 2008-10-23T16:52:56Z ang Our Freedom http://www.sodahead.com/blog/3868
 ang

0 raves
The Freedom to say what you like and do as you please (for the most part) is something that many people in our country take for granted. We know this here on Sodahead I think a little more than others AT times because this is a place to ask questions, get answers and we should be able to say what we WANT and how we like to at that. Grant it, you might not like what I have to say, nor I might not like what you have to say. But that doesn’t make me or you any less of a person. Our “Freedom of Speech” here on Sodahead can be tested at times I do believe. I would like to think that we as a group could keep some things as “tasteful” as possible. Not only because we are adults, but because children (minors should I say) do have access to this site and can read what we do say. And yep, if you have something that isn’t “tasteful” to say you know you can find a group out there that you can belong to and say and do as you please. Which I’ve seen it around (sorry I can’t recall what the name of it is) that I think is a great idea. Because as adults we do have topics that we’d like to “ask questions” about that are perhaps not made for younger “eyes” to view. Sometimes we like to answer questions or even create questions (for you guys that have been here awhile polls sounds better but I understand why they went to “questions”) that can spin off some really heated debate among people. I’ve seen some questions that really caused a big fuss between people, some that really were right out WRONG (a few that were racists that were wrong if you ask me) and of course people who can only make raciest remarks as well. Some polls don’t even give you an option that is different and open minded on the subject, and they even leave off “none of the above” as well. I’m sure that many sodaheads might have agreed with the question and answers, but I’m sure many more might not have as well….. Over the last few months I’ve created many questions (polls, whatever) on many different subjects. Trying my best to make sure that my answers that were given were NOT one sided, and to try to make darn sure that I always put on my questions “none of the above” . Because even if my options were “decent” ones, I’m sure someone might not have agreed with either of them and wanted to have their own. Which is fine by me. Back in Nov of 2007 I created a poll and called it “Scientology cult or way of life” To me the question was innocent enough. I gave the people that believed it was a cult an answer and the people that felt that it was a way of life (thinking of the people that were involved in Scientology at the time that is) an answer as well. Of course the poll did “eh” for awhile. Perhaps about 15 or 20 votes were casted. I even forgot the poll was even active (I’ve never really closed many questions maybe 2 or 3 not really sure right off hand and I’ve only deleted one so far, because I found out another poll had been created as well that was pretty much the same thing) either way one day the poll started to get a few more comments and such on it so I started reading. Now I’m not going to call out ANY names here because that’s just rude. But after a few days of correspondence on the site, and trust me I was trying to be as nice as possible because I’m not here to make people made or “hate” But either way the person sent me a message here on sodahead… Well please keep in mind that this person had spent a few days answering what others had said, defending her faith (which is her right) and within that message that person requested for me to close/delete my poll. Honestly I was deeply offended by this. Why? Well I looked at it somewhat like this. Not only did I gave both sides of the playing field an option, the person herself decided that because she found it offensive that I should delete it. So she’s telling me after days of answering peoples questions that she found the question offensive. Well… that really upset me. Because to me it was like a person going into a book store, buying a book, reading the whole book and then taking it back to the bookstore to get a refund. Even though they already finished the book, gained its knowledge and such. I felt like My freedom of speech was in question here. So I trying not to think much about it, just didn’t say anything. Then she emailed me again And again And on the third one I answered her. Only after I confirmed that my question did not violate any sodahead policy at all. And of course she emailed me again And again And then something happened to her account (not sure what)so she emailed me from someone else’s account not once but twice And then she emailed me from her account again And on the last one I told her I wasn’t going to delete my poll. Now for some odd reason I was not getting email notifications that I had mail on sodahead…. And honestly I stopped going to the site because I had other things to do. Perhaps I should have told her I wasn’t going to delete it the first time around. That might have been the right thing to do, But over all, man GET THE HINT. I didn’t answer her messages for a reason. Because I didn’t want to say something rude and out of line. But by the last message that I read I was already ill on the subject so when I found a news article about Scientology it got me thinking all over again so I started reading. And yes, I took the sites that I did find and I did put them on my “question” for all the read if they wanted to. But of course someone downraved it, perhaps they have something to hide? Who knows. But what I do know is that I wanted people to have unbiased information. and so long as one person was providing the Scientology side of things, and another the other side, I’m fine with that. Some of the information that I found on the forums site was rather interesting to me. I mean one guy seemed to really improve on his life, makes some really good changes, but figured out that the church wasn’t for him, because of the money they were taking because of the way he was treated, because of the lies he felt he was being told. You know, congrats to the guy that stop using drugs, turned his life around and got on a good path, if Scientology really can help someone do that, perhaps that’s what it should be marketed as that. But when it came down to it, I refused to delete my poll only because it is my privilege as an American to ASK that question of the people here, and it is your privilege to answer it if you wish or move along if not. It is your right to defend your views on religion and your take on Scientology, or even Christianity for as long as you like. The great men and women that fight everyday for these freedoms that we enjoy should be thanked each day for it. They are the ones that have made it possible for each of us here to say how we feel, and ask what we like. Trust me, I’ve seen many polls out there that have bothered me in some way, but you know what I’ve done? I just kept on moving. Like I’ve said before, what offends me might not offend you. If you don’t like it, move on. Simple as that. Some might ask if I’ve blocked this person, and if I haven’t, why not…well no, I have not blocked this person because I feel that this person has the right to say what she feels and do as she pleases. Until she attacks me verbally I will not. This person might not think I like them too much, but honestly I have to admire her convections and how she feels on the subject. But still, I haven’t, and I don’t plan to either. Anyway I had to get all that off my chest, I’ve been kind of hanging on to all of it for a little while now…and of course the drama over the last few days over a question is kind of silly if you ask me. So, even though you might create a poll that might cause an issue with a group of people, that shouldn't keep you from doing, so long as your answers are fair on the question. And as a freedom in American to ask the questions that we do, we really should thank our Soliders for what they have and are doing for us! come to think of it, thanks to them I can write this and put out for whoever wants to see it! heck maybe i should even create a question around it, in a way such as "have you ever been asked to delete a question because someone didn't like it/found it offensive!" *shrug* 2008-03-18T21:20:17Z ang Yes I know.... http://www.sodahead.com/blog/1208
 ang

+2 raves

I've been "poll happy" today.
