Ode to Rose and Sunshine

raves +2   by Calumet
There is a hatred that can sing and kiss the child goodnight.
That does not swell with rages foam, but casts a golden light.
It smiles and turns and whispers soft so only heart can hear.
"I'll not recant nor love prevail" because the reigns are fear.
Because the reigns are fear.

Upset the stand or break the urn this hate will never do.
It combs the hair and cooks the meals and moves with daily cares.
It does not sit alone and muse in peace and soft repose.
It must find likes to fuel it's might and stir the fetid brew.
And stir the fetid brew.

It breaks the heart so slow it takes a thousand springs to melt.
The body racks with feable bend for all that hate has dealt.
To help it stand it calls the friends, regret and pain and sorrow.
And plays the days it ruled with ease until the end of morrow.
Until the end of morrow.

Point? Many FOXNews Republicans openly express racist views

raves   -1 by Calumet
I've given a cursory example of how racism is peppered throughout conservative news and talk radio and winked at by passive GOP members who say they aren't racist yet continue to associate themselves with them and gather their information about the world from them (sound like anyone you've heard of lately?). These sources are on everyday and broadcast into the homes of hundreds of millions of Americans 24/7. Desensitized and vapid to the ebb and flow of a constant stream of subtly coded remarks, from innuendo to rancorous characterizations, Americans have grown quite accustomed, even acculturated to various phraseologies, descriptions and mindsets that would with a casual glance from the uninitiated cause outrage. All the while genuine race mongers become more entrenched and are able to interpret with clarity even the most cleverly disguised implications and operate accordingly.

Rev Wright's exegetical tirades threaten exposure of the rest of the racist tenor and so he is spotlighted and his rhetoric milked for all it’s worth as the others get by saying anything they please cloaking it in righteous indignation.

Obama has become the scapegoat for all that is wrong with America as racist pundits and journalists command their audience to hate the man with the list they've made out for him.

Only the most discriminate of minds can filter the constant drone and consider independently. THE REST FALL HEADLONG INTO A BOX TOGETHER AND, COME HELL OR HIGH WATER, REFUSE TO RELENT TO REASON OR UNDERSTAND THAT HATRED DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ANGRY TO BE DESTRUCTIVE. Hated is not an emotion.

A warning to one who hates with words

Happiness is a choice...Descrimination isn't

raves +1   by Calumet
That article is so off the mark. No reasonable person expects someone else to MAKE them happy. Feeling good about oneself isn't the point when a Black man, well dressed, properous, happy with home, career, family and friends walks down the street and still faces: 1. Police rolling up on him and patting him down.
2. White pedestrians crossing to the other side rather than walk by him.
3. The broken silence of car doors locking as he walks by.
4. A drive by shouting of the "n" word.
5. Being inordinately monitored by store security.
6. Being stared at silently and scornfully or spitting when he attempts a casual greeting.
7. Being completely ignored altogether.
8. Made to wait longer to be served in a restaurant or department store.

These things are separate and apart from whether or not he/she feels good about themselves.

If you don't know that every one of these things is happening and more in 2008 in cities across the country 24/7 it's because you aren't paying attention, which is very easy for White people to do. If you believe they are just supposed to shrug it off, which many do despite the regularity, than you are being unreasonable. These type of people don't care. They do it for their own satisfaction, and are gleeful to get the opportunity.
What can White people do about it? Tell their White families and friends to stop when they hear an off colored joke or make some demeaning comment. Of course do it enough and you may get labeled a "n" lover. Then may be you'll have a taste of what it's like.

Now when there are no Blacks around the Irish may jab the Scotch. Germans may jab the Italians. Everyone seem to jab the French. But when a person of color is in the picture all the White ethicities may come against them. If you don't believe it you're not around enough Black people. Being middle-class I know what White people say when someone moves into the neighborhood, and I'm not going to pretend it ain't happening. I don't own them anything, but mutual respect, and appreciation for who they are, not try to ignore it. Being colorblind is passive racism. It says we'll just ignore your color as much as possible because we can't get along otherwise.
Embracing the whole person, appreciating the differences is genuine brotherly/sisterly kindness.
Grass is nice, but a field of wildflowers is breathtakingly attractive, fragrant...and easier to manage.
