Sub Pop Hits 20 Year Milestone
The indie label, Sub Pop, who brought us bands like Nirvana, Iron and Wine, Soundgarden, Modest Mouse, White Stripes, Bright Eyes, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, and Grammy winning Flight of Conchords celebrates it's 20th year on Earth this year. Like a proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes, Sub Pop has managed to survive and thrive to the present day after having been declared dead twice in its lifetime. Sub Pop flirted for a long time with money problems with a stop at fiasco-land in their associations with the corporate label, Warner Bros., but Sub Pop made it out and still produces music. How did they make it this far, you may wonder?
Despite shifting musical tastes, financial storms, and corporate buy-ins these past twenty years, Sub Pop has Grammy winners and platinum albums to it's name. Initially ebbing out of Seattle, Washington, founder Jonathan Poneman and co-founder Bruce Pavitt reached out in the 1990s to the greasy, music-hungry teens in stained black Ts and fed them garage band and grunge rock. Sub Pop then topped that off by successfully marketed to the grunge lifestyle with their infamous "Loser" t-shirts tagged with label logo on the back. Sub Pop also was at the birth of modern emo, standing along side and holding hands with Sunny Day Real Estate, who paved the way for bands like Dashboard Confessionals, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance by steering the flavor of mid-80s punk toward its more standard-rock-bound sound.
Recently, what brought Sub Pop another kind of mainstream recognition was Flight of Conchords, the comedy duo that won Sub Pop's first Grammy in February, 2008.
To celebrate these twenty years of music innovation, Sub Pop will be holding The Sub Pop Festival, from July 12-13. This marks a reunion of Green River, as well as the Vaselines sharing a bill with Flight of the Conchords, Iron & Wine and Fleet Foxes. And of course, many other Sub Pop band will be playing for the two days of Seattle gigs. To commemorate, we raise our glasses to you, Sub Pop, for giving us twenty years of musical awesomeness.

Metallica Reveals Title For Their New Album
Metallica cryptically revealed the title for their new album over the weekend. In a series of posts on their website the band gradually spelled out Death Magnetic, which is due out in September.
Although the band is playing the festival circuit this summer, no new material has been performed at live shows. Sneak previews of the new material hints at a true return to form for the long-running group.
Metallica frontman James Hetfield said that working with new producer Rick Rubin was a refreshing change after parting ways with long time producer Bob Rock.
"It was time to get a fresh set of ears. Bob has done amazing stuff with us. It got a little comfortable. Maybe the fire wasn't there as much, in our viewpoint." he said.

Miley Cyrus Gets Playboy Offer!
Hugh Hefner has invited Miley Cyrus to pose naked for Playboy Magazine when she turns 18!
According to Hef, “She would be welcomed in the magazine. She’s a very pretty lady.”
Hefner insists that the Vanity Fair controversy (where she exposed portions of her back in a photo shoot) is silly. Hugh Hefner doesn't understand America's "schizophrenic" outlook on sexuality.
Pretty crazy!! Who knows if Cyrus would ever do it, Miley doesn't seem quite like the wild-child that other Playboy bunnies such as Drew Berrymore and Denise Richards have been.
