For ALL who voted NO on Proposition 98, let us stand up and give ourselves a big round of applause!
Now we need to prepare for the next one and that is to make damn sure NO Republican is elected ANYWHERE in November.

Is it true there is no way Hillary can win because of delegates? I am confused!!

I guess it's time to hold a funeral for this groupsite. It's been dead for weeks!

When I saw and heard Rev. Wright's comments, I was flabbergasted. I was even more disgusted as this whole scenario has played out. Obama's association with Rev. Wright, Tony Rezco, Sen./Rev. Meeks, Al Sharpton etc. on one hand and his "uniter" oritory on the other has sickened and scared me. His reference to his grandmother as "a typical white women" was the final straw. I have given my support to Hillary. If she does not get the nomination, and I fear even after all this, she will not, I will vote for McCain in the general election, rather than Obama. He made such a huge issue of not voting for the war ( He didn't vote on 139 other bills as well) stating he had the good judgement to be Commander In Chief. Where has his good judgement been in his association with people like this?
If Obama goes into the convention with the popular vote and does not win the nomination, there will be hell to pay. His supporters will cry foul and probably racisim and who knows what else will transpire.
There are things we can do to help assure Hillary gets the nomination. She can still pick up the majority of votes and delegates in the remaining primaries. But that still may not be enough. Go to the DNC website (www.demcrats.org) and tell them they must have a "re-do" in Florida and Michigan. Go to your state's Democratic Primary website and find out who your Super Delegates are and contact them. Tell them to support Hillary. Contact John Edwards and ask him to endorse Hillary (scheduler@johnedwards.com). I have already done these things and will do more as people share their ideas and I think of more options. Please join me in this grassroots effort if you're as disgusted with Obama as I am!

It is true - we have been in a shambles state for quite a long time now due to the political avenue this admin took...and we (as the American people) are on the same train ride - like it or not and it does at times make me want to vomit also!!! I cannot even express how disheartening it has been along this journey......from this admin stealing the election (thanks to bro Jeb/Florida 2000) to the propaganda stolen vote of 2004 (religious right) - - which if it makes anyone feel any better - he never delivered to them (the right) as promised either!
http://www.time.com/time/maga...
Our global status is at it's worst and our global economy shows it (plummeting $$$). This Prez and his cronies have ruined this nation and all it stood for - even the Sr Bush has been very surprised by his son's position and 'governing ways' and he was not much better hisself! We have more enemies now in the world than we could possibly kill and THEY are having children.
Historians will certainly have a hard time coming up with anything positive to state as this Prez legacy......and here we sit with our hands folded and for a long time AFRAID to voice our concerns or disgust .....for fear we would be labelled UN-PATRIOTIC. The TRUE UN-PATRIOTIC people in this country have been and ARE currently in the White House ..........for all the disrespect shown to the laws of our land and once great-nation, and the very people who live in it!

Today is March 4th, 2008. What is so special about that? Well, usually by now, because of the manipulative, idiotic primary process, the presidential candidates would have already been chosen by the states voting before today. TX, VT, RI, OH will FINALLY have a say (for the first time in a long time) in who will be our next Democratic candidate. Unfortunately, the the rest of the states (like us in NC) who have late primaries, probably will have no say. Florida and Michigan tried to have thier voters voices heard early, and were punished and totally disinfranchised from the primaries by the DNC. Who the hell do they think they are to tell the voters of these states that their voices will not be heard, that they DON'T COUNT! I hope someone from these states has the brass to sue over this. I hope you will join me in pressing the powers that be that this archaic system is long overdue for a rehab! My friends and I already feel left out of the process, I would be LIVID if I were a resident of Florida or Michigan. I hope you will join me in throwing the current leadership of the DNC out and working for a NATIONAL Primary Day for both parties. Let's take back our voice and our choice!

I heard on NPR today that Mccain and Obama would be tied today. This country is nuts. I am still trying to figure out why those folks in Ohio and the South voted Bush back in so they could be jobless and without insurance. I am in ok shape, but good grief, if the people don't wake up and smell the coffee we will continue to get what we get.
As an Arizona resident, I am completely amazed that McCain is even a candidate for Pres. I tell you, the folks here are so smart that they voted Rick Renzi back to Congress from our District when it was all over the papers he was under investigation and the details were out about what it was for.
Go figure. Now we are without representation:(

You turn on any political show and you hear how the American people sent the Democrats to the Congress to thwart Bush/Chaney's efforts to maintain a failing war, thier attacks on our civil liberties and Habious Corpus (etc) and what was the first thing they did? Elect Nancy Palosi as Speaker of the House. And what was the first thing good ol' Nancy does? Makes a public statement that Impeachment of Bush/Cheney is NOT on the table! What the hell were they thinking? What Palosi and the crew did was to literally tell King George that he had tacit approval to continue his scurge on the American people and their pocketbooks. There is probably not enough time left to begin impeachments (Cheney AND Bush) because the White house has and will continue to fail to comply with any efforts by Congress to get to the bottom of all the very questionable actions of this President and his administration. (Can you impeach a President in obstentia?) I am so disgusted with our political leadership I could vomit. What is wrong with Americans? We finally had a candidate in John Edwards who was willing to stand firmly against big business and lobbyists and we did not support his run for the Democratic nomination. Now we have to choose between Hillary, who I at least KNOW and a motivational speaker who talks about change, but has no real record to run on. He touts the fact that he disagreed with going to war in the first place. Well so did I, but I am not ready to be President either. I am not usually this negative, but I really feel violated. The current nomination system is a joke. I live in NC and by the time we have our primaries, the candidates will already have been chosen. WHY can't we have a nationwide primary? We have the technology to make it happen. And while I'm on the subject, we have the technology to get rid of the obsolite Electoral College. Can we finally wake up as a nation and use some common sense???????????????

I agree with every thing Alex has said The Bush Cheney Adminastration must pay for the treaturous acts it has commited against the American Constitution and the American people.

Oh, look what I just figured out. One has to click on the "General Discussion" link to get to the actual Forum. The "Comments" section (what this is posted in) is NOT the forum. Doah... Of course, if I wasn't new to SodaHeads, I would have realized that, but I got sent here by a Barbara Boxer mailing...

Let's get this straight from the start: I don't want to be a member of any group which remains wishy-washy about the Bush administration. They need to be impeached. It does not matter how close they are to being out of office. They have committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" which are the trigger to being impeached.
They have lied to and misled the American People in so many different ways, not only related to the Iraq war, but that by itself is enough.
They have ruined the economy of this nation, by taking a surplus, left by Bill Clinton's administration, and running it into the ground to now be the largest deficit in the history of the United States.
Everything Good and Fair about the USA has been turned into rot and garbage by Bush, Cheney, and all of their so-called advisors and point-people.
They must be stopped.
They must be impeached.
Even if this is finally decided after they have left office, they should be thrown in jail, to pay for the things they have done to ruin our country.
Now, if Barbara Boxer is prepared to help take this country down that road - to impeach the Bush Administration - all of them - then I will be a proud member of this Group, the Barbara Boxer Club.
However, if Ms. Boxer is not prepared to join Congressman Wexler, John Conyers, and the others who are trying to impeach Bush et al., then they can count me out.
I want no part of a group with no teeth and no balls.
Visit
http://www.watchbushcheat.com and read about this administration and Bush’s quote on being a dictator, and all the rest of it. And there are also quotes from the Constitution which might open people's eyes.
McCain is going down the same road as Bush has gone, and we have to guard against the Evil of the Republican Party, who will lie to you, mislead you, cheat and do everything they can to get votes except tell you the truth.
I've said enough.

The new element, Governmentium
Research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These 312 particles are held together by forces
called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction which would normally take less than a second to take anytime from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of two to six years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which some of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as the critical morass.
When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Illegal immigration would not even be a problem if our government would really crack down on the people hiring illegals. Why in the world are we discussing all this stuff about immigration when the answer is right in front of our noses. NO WORK NO IMMIGRANTS!!!!
Another simple answer to giving illegals free services including schooling is to ask for their green cards before giving service. Really is our government so inept that they can't ask for a green card. Why is everyone over thinking all this when the anwers are simple. 1.Go after companies hiring illegals and not only fine them but give them prison time. 2. Do not give services to anyone whithout a green card. People we are creating our own problems not immigrants, by giving them work and giving anyone free government services instead of finding out if they are here illegally or not. We don't even need a computer for that just people asking for green cards.

I am a teacher in Texas in a school that is 97.3% hispanic. We get kids in who we absolutely know they are not legal. They come to us with no clothes, no shoes, pitifully poor living in apartments with 2 or 3 other families and in many cases their only source of electricity is an extension cord to another apartment. These kids know no English, their education in Mexico is not verifiable and we have to figure out where they are and try to educate them. Illegal immigrants come here desperately poor with nothing, but they work and work hard and within several weeks we see these kids with clothes and they are beginning to assimilate to life here. They all receive free breakfass and fre lunches and in some of their cases these are their only real meals. The illegals though come to work and they work hard at any job that will give them income. They are happy to be free and able to work. They have lived in homes down there with three walls holes in the walls for windows and dirt floors. For them even what we would consider pathetic is a step up. But NAFTA was supposed to help them at home and keep the jobs there where they did not want to leave and come here and to open up their market to us and our goods down to them. The problem has not been NAFTA as it was seen when they did it but they way it was executed. I don't blame these people, they want to earn their way. We also got a large influx of Katrina people who expected to sit back and felt somehow that the government owed them a free ride. Not all of them please do not get the wrong idea. But after 2 1/2 years I somehow think they should be able to pay their own rent. The fence is the silliest idea I have ever heard. You build a 50 foot fense and some entrepreneur will build a 55 ft ladder. As long as the jobs are here they will find a way to come in. We need to aggressively go after the employers and fine them and use that money to deal with the immigrations issues. But meanwhile we are also at fault for their being here. We hear all the time they broke our laws and they did. But are we making any sort of concerted effort to stop them? No, why? Because business love to find people who will work 70 hours a week for 4 bucks an hour with no overtime and no benefits. That is the mindset of the businesses that hire them and we are doing nothing to make that an option that they would not consider. I can guarantee you if we said we are going to start to go after employers aggressivelly and fine them aggressively and then started actually doing it the jobs would slow down and with no jobs these people would go back home. We would not have to deport them. The ones who have been here for years have a much more vested interest in staying. They would pay the fines and finish learning English and do almost anything to stay. But the influx would slow down and the outgo would be substantial. Just my opinion.

Immigration is a distraction created by the Republicans to divert attention from the really horrendous problems we have in this country, many of them created by the Republicans, themselves. War, health care, disaster relief, habeas corpus, Big Brother spying on American citizens. These are real issues. Immigration is way down there on the list. Let's not get distracted.

Hugh:
First of all, we have to recognize that there is an immense amount of hypocrisy in the immigration debate. In San Diego County, where I live, guess where you can find the largest collections of day laborers, many of whom have no documents? In Rancho Santa Fe, the wealthiest town in the county, and also the most Republican.
Let's face it -- many of the people arguing for a "crackdown" in illegal immigration don't really want that. What they want is for undocumented immigrants to live in a state of perpetual fear, so that they will accept any working conditions offered to them, no matter how unsafe. The more these workers are afraid, the more latitude their employers have, and that's what's critical to the Republicans.
On top of that, the Republicans have merged immigration into the Homeland Defense industry, where billions of dollars are there for the taking -- in ID systems, radar, video equipment, walls across the border, prisons, and prison management. It's just like the "War on Drugs". The Republicans love this type of "war," because the corporate prison industry is guaranteed a perpetual supply of prisoners. That also explains why they don't give a rat's ass about rehabilitation. After all, recidivism is nothing but another name for "repeat customers."
I'm pointing all this out because the whole immigration debate has been framed by the Republicans, and we can't enter the battle on their terms.
Look at the miserable campaign of Francis Busby in the 50th district of CA. Here she was, up against a corporate lobbyist, who had barely lived in the district long enough to qualify. Bilbray, made sure the issue of corporate corruption, Iraq, the environment, etc. never got on the table. He made the whole campaign about immigration, and Busby fell for it. It was no surprise to me that she lost. Granted, this district has a large Republican base, but she could have won if Democrats would have been motivated. Basing her whole campaign on immigration was highly demotivational.
The one thing the Republican don't want to do, it seems, is crack down on employers who use undocumented workers, especially the large ones. And the other thing they don't want to do is to have trade policies that will encourage the grown the the Mexican economy. NAFTA hasn't made Mexicans richer; instead, it's fattened the wallets of a few global enterprises.
That really is the bottom line. You don't see Canadians pouring over the border, nor do we worry about the "porosity" of our northern border. Why would a Canadian, with free education and health care, want to emigrate to the U.S.? But for a starving Mexican family, even a job in the fields is better than seeing their kids go without food.
In other words, there are no simplistic solutions to immigration. We can build the walls as high as we want, but as long as there is such a huge income gap, Mexicans and others from impoverished countries will pour across the borders, no matter what the risk.
By the way, I wonder if there are many Costa Ricans in the mix. I tend to doubt it, because the Costa Rican economy is fairly healthy. And that's one of the economies NAFTA is threatening to destroy.

I would love to open a dialog on illegal immigration. How do you feel about it, honestly? I am a huge supporter of LEGAL immigration (my ancestors immigrated to the new world in 1643 & 44 and many since then, all legally) I have listened to all sides of this arguemnt and for me, it all comes down to only ONE thnig: The Law. As sympathetic as I am to the plight of so many of these people, I cannot excuse the fact that they have broken our souverign laws. If I do not abide by the laws of this nation, I will go to jail. If I abuse the tax system, the social service system etc., I will be prosicuted and I will pay the price. How can we overlook this 800 pound gorilla in the room? We are (suppose to be) a nation of laws. How can we make exceptions for ANY group? How can we offer special rights to this group of people, yet deny equal rights to our GLBT population? What about EQUAL RIGHTS for Native Americans?
Over my lifetime I have come to believe certain things and have courage in my convictions. I believe in a free enterprise system without being a slave to the corporation. I believe in a Utopianesque future without being a socialist. But I have to tell you, I struggle with this issue of illegal immigration. My struggle is not with whether it is acceptable (at any level) or not, because it is not. My struggle is in the fixing of the problem. Amnesty, or anything like it, will not work. It didn't work for Bill Clintron and it will not work for Bush or the next president. And I will not even go into the fact that our borders are wide open............................
