Which motto would you like to see on American money?

So much debate over so few words. What are your thoughts on this? Which do you think would be more appropriate to print on our money?

It's money. There's no purpose for or need to have any slogan on money.

Yeah....what was wrong with "Redeemable in Lawful Money" that was on money before Congress replaced it by "In God We Trust"?

Hey HH, It was added in 1864 in response to a Great increase in popular US religious sentiment brought on by the Civil War. -

You're somewhat correct...it did appear on some coins then...but it wasn't until 1957 that it appeared on paper currency. In God We Trust became the official U.S. national motto after the passage of an Act of Congress in 1956.

Go back and check. there was not even a uniform currency in the US at that time if I am not mistaken. 1864 was only coins and not all

No tye truth is that it was not official until 1957. Plain and simple. Even Teddy Roosevelt stated that it would not be a positiiove move but harmful. Until it is approved and put on all money it is not official. in 1864 it was ona 2 cent coin only.

You can read more here including that the motto may well be unconsitutional.
