This word, which I find offensive and racist, is thrown around alot of SH towards caucasians. I want to know what everyone thinks of this. Other words I hear are "white devil, cracker and inbred". And please, keep the fighting down and have some manners and class PLEASE! And for those who say it is not a racist word, here is the definition from Wikipedia and the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitey
Whitey, in American slang, a derogatory racist term for white people. See Cracker (pejorative).

Answered Yes, it is racist and should not be used!
It is a racial word I hear thrown around towards Caucasians. I find it a racial word but not very offensive. But regardless, it should not be used. I think referring to anyones color of skin is racial. If the word whitey is used by those who are not white towards another to offend, that it is definitely racist. -

I don't know if I find it racist but I do think it offends some people and should be avoided in ALL conversations. I don't however think it is on the same level of offensiveness as the "N" word BECAUSE of the context and situations in which the "N" word was used. Perhaps, if white people were discriminated against, held as slaves, raped and beaten while people of the black race pushed them around calling them "whitey" would it be on the same derogatory level. I don't think either should be said by anyone including people within the races to each other based on the background of the "N" word and the offensiveness of both words. I think color lines should be erased everywhere( job applications, college applications, surveys, etc) and people should be treated as individuals based on their character, morals, and conduct not on color which NOONE has control of but God. -
Then why are you here answering it? Where are you mars? Whitey, kill whitey, white devil doesnt sound familiar to you?

Im a dj on weekends and I can tell you that blacks love the word nigga. They dance to it, repeat the words, sing along and say it over and over. IN fact, they request me to play songs with the word nigga in it.
Is there songs with the word Honky referred to whites. I know theres a honky Tonk Man and honky tonk Woman by the stones. HMMMM Why is it that only the black music uses such racist vulgar language. I mean dont get me wrong, there are a few white rappers. But almost all Black rappers just say it so freely. -
How about your redneck woman? What people say in the privacy of life, in the company of friends is never your concern. When someone says something disrespectful to you you have every right to be pissed. But the same way I can't tell people that honky tonk isn't a good choice for a name of music style, the same way you can't tell people how to speak or act amongst themselves. If it was truly about more than a buck for you, you wouldn't play music that was so offensive. But, money makes a lot of folks world go round, and they sell out to the highest bidder.

I think it all depends on cultural context. For instance, I live in a latin american country where for the most part to call someone "güero" (whitey) or "negro" (blackey) has no offensive meaning at all. In fact it's not uncommon to call güero/negro to some member of your own family if him happens to be the one with the whiter/darker skin.
Unfortunately that is not to say there is not racism in here, but it is mainly focused on the native americans etnias, which are called generically "indios". Even more, it is not usually said directly to members of those etnias but to anyone you intent to insult (I mean if you are racist). -

It all depends on the intent. Is the word thrown as an insult? If so it is offensive and meant to be. Does one need to have hatred and fear in their hearts to be a racist? Or would ingnorance count as racism too? Some people are educated badly. Some are just angry. Some are just plain scared. So it is just a word until it is used to offend, then it becomes racist. -

Although it holds little past meaning and isn’t commonly used in a power depriving aspect (to of the main point that make something racist).... It’s a derogatory race tied word and shouldn’t be used outside of a very narrow social group (those who are white and accept the word as ok)
