What would you do if this were your child?
COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio school board has voted to fire a science teacher accused of using a device to burn the image of a Christian cross on students' arms. The Mount Vernon school board passed a resolution Friday to end the contract of middle school teacher John Freshwater. He can't be fired until after he is given a hearing to challenge the decision.
The instructor is accused of preaching his Christian beliefs in class and teaching creationism.
A family says Freshwater burned a cross into a child's arm that remained for three to four weeks. The family has sued the teacher and the school district.

Assuming the kid was being truthful about how he got the cross on his arm, I would have the teacher arrested for child abuse and his teaching license revoked. I'm quite sure that I'd be able to kill the SOB with my bare hands! However, me being a fair-minded Christian, I would need to know the entire story, witness accounts, etc. -

This is very brief description, and I would want to know a lot more of the facts about what was going on before i made a decision on what exactly should be done. We do have freedom of speech, and if they teach the big bang theory(it is a theory because they can not prove it) then I have no problem with creationism being taught as a theory also. Now as to the burning of the cross on the arm I would need to know the circumstances around the "burning", what was used, how it happened, was it intentional, was it one kid. That is a sorry looking cross. Were there witnesses, are they credible witnesses, is it possible that this was an accidental burn that resembles a cross. Who is bring the charges, Could just be a activist liberal who has a problem with a teacher just because he is a christian.
Just pointing out there is a large amount of info. not provided. -

I would hold him down and brand "DUMBASS" on his forehead.......now thats said...we can dream cant we?......He be locked up...lose his teaching credentials....community service (lots of it) perferably working with the less fortunate....I really want to say...".make him work in a burn unit", but they would never allow that. -

definitely sue and make sure he's not a teacher anymore! Being Christian (or anything else) does not give anyone the right to physically harm my kid or anyone else for that matter. (And I am Christian)
There should also be a full investigation to make sure the child in this story isn't hiding something like hurting themself, or any problems in the family. Were there witnesses? If the teacher wants to bring religion into his class, he should be in a school made for that, because you do have to respect other's rights. -

Fire him, and let the parents decide whether or not to file assault charges. Who gave him permission to burn children? Regardless of the image, which is inappropriate, having a teaching degree in science isn't a a license to burn people! As far as teaching creationism in science, I'd have to hear what constitutes "teaching" creationism. These days, if anyone even makes a slip of the tongue and (God forbid), let's their own opinion be known, people make a federal case out of it. For all I know, one of the students asked him if he believed in evolution, and he answered honestly. Does that mean he was "teaching" it, or just answering a question? Is he required to lie to his students, or refuse to answer? I don't know about that part. We'll have to see what the outcome is. The cross may be a symbol that Christianity uses, but they don't OWN it. Geez. Was he forcing them to do this, or did they volunteer? Who chose the image? Did anyone protest, besides the parents? There are not enough answers in this story to make a clear determination. -
I know a wiccan would never do such a thing... but the only reasoning for the pentagram is because it's not his religion thus Insulting him by forcing him to wear a religious symbol that his faith actually find appalling.
The satan is my lover "has nothing to do with the pentagram or wiccan religion" it was just something I decided to add just to throw some salt in the wounds. People like him piss me off, and he just made matters worse by actually physically forcing his beliefs onto a student. -
