Guys, would you be ready for a confrontation with a hostile guy who is yelling and/or hitting a girl? How would you respond or how have you? Girls, what would you do? Have you ever had to deal with this?
The set up: Last night, I am walking with my buddy to get food when I hear a guy yelling in the parking lot and I hear a girl screaming. I look at my buddy and we both walk over to see what is going on. I started tensing up, ready for the possibility of a confrontation. I like to think I would be brave enough to step in and do something but I have never been in the situation. Thinking I would do something is a lot different than actually doing it. The guy yelling was apparently pissed. He was banging on the girls car door, but quickly took off in his own car. The girl was all right.
I started talking with my friend and told him I was waiting to see if I would have to go intervene if he was being abusive. He said something to the effect of "yea and then the guy pulls a knife on you..."
I respond, "true, but then I hope that I can take him out and bring him to the ground in one hit. I have absolutely zero tolerance for abusive guys and I don't care at that point."
If the guy is wielding a knife, I would never approach him. My buddy indicated that he wouldn't intervene. Still, I wanted to see where other people stand on this. Would you ever step in? Would you just call the cops?

Been there, done that.
My response from this poll (http://sodahead.com/question... :
I thought a rape was happening outside this bar in 1982. So me being me, I pulled a gun and was locked and loaded on 4 people. Turned out that the girl was an undercover narc, as were 2 of the guys, trying to bust a guy for pot (who was resisting). Things came to a dead halt when I pulled my piece, and they did too. Cost me a year probation, $500 fine, and I was the first person to get community service in Onslow County, N. Carolina....
Would I do it again? Sure. So no need to report it. Just collect the wounded when it's over....
BTW, it's the one thing that my late mother was proudest of me for.....
Chivalry is not dead as long as I live......And this was one of the times I had a gun put to my head and laughed at the person. telling him (the cop), to go have sex with himself if you know what i mean....
also added to my reputation and nickname of Doc Holliday... -

There are alot of particulars that would have to be factored into it. I have seen people get into the middle of a couple only to get his ass handed to him by both of them and then there are times where the woman believe it or not doesnt need anyones help it may be the man for I have seen women hand some men their asses hmmmm it would really have to look like it was going south before I would physically do anything but I would call the cops. Everyone wants to be a knight but not everyone needs a knight! -

Sorry I have to mind my own business on this one. When I was a young lady I witnessed a girl getting beat by her boyfriend she co-habitated with. In the course of their relationship he beat her several times. I called the cops on him once. She lied and said he didn't beat her and he told my brothers and they whipped me for getting into the guys business with his girl. -

I do not agree with any abuse that is not consented. if someone is being abused because they want to be then fine thats on them but if someone is being abuse against their wishes and they have not permited it and have said to stop then i do not agree and i would step in and do anything and everything within my means to try and stop it. after all who knows what the woman would look like if i just yelled or called the cops. neither one of those methods would work cuz yelling back would just piss him off more and make the abuse work and waiting for the cops may be to late. -

yeah i would intervene and would do whatever it would take to get the guy to leave her alone. ive done it before and would do it again. nothing makes me more mad than to hear about a girl that gets hit by a guy. -

I was the victim of domestic violence so anger and phyical agression scares me. I would hope I could do something to help but I don't think I could fight back or yell and scream. -

You cant just step back and smell the roses. What if that women died tommorow, and you had a chance to save her?! My friends boyfriend likes to hit me.i call him a pussy because eh has never hit a boy. NEVER! men really make me mad when they beat on girls. and girls make me mad when they do nothing about it. -

Well it helps I'm a cop and have to deal with all the time. But sometimes you just don't know whats gonna happen when you step in. I've had wives who just got beaten jump on me when I went to arrest her husband and vice versa. In St. Louis a couple of years ago a cabbie sees a guy beating up his wife he tries to step in the husband shoots, him kills his wife and then takes the cowards way out and shoots himself. So you just don't know whats gonna happen. -

Hey no women such be subject to a beaten down from a guy, even if he was holding a knife i would jump that guy and beat the crap out of him, then hold the guy so the girl could get some shots in. It dosent matter if he is bigger than me i would still challenge. -

HELL NO' WHY? because every time i kick the guys ass i was the one who got lock up for it, every dam time' and you know what? the dam woman would just go back to him' now i feel more like a jackass' so hell no! say what you want cause when i went to jail, the women who i help' did'nt try to get me out! did'nt say thanks or anything' no! no! no! the only woman that i'm going to help will be my own. -

I have physically stepped in when I saw a young girl being abused by her boyfriend, when he threatened me I pointed out the rest of the people that were around, including my brother. I also stuck up for a guy who was being attacked by his drunken wife..that happens to. Women can be just as violent as men. -
see' that's what i'm talking about, women always say he's a punk cause he did'nt help me' bull sh--! when you do help them they will still go with the guy' and tell you to leave their boyfriend alone' so the hell with it, she's on her own, she just better learn how to bob and weave.

In fact, I have. I was at a sushi restaurant when a girl pushed a woman into a window and when her boyfriend stood up to help her after being pushed, a group of very rowdy men that were with the attacking woman proceeded to push both the man and woman in the couple. Seeing the underdog in trouble, I stood to try to calm the situation down along with my friend who stood by my side. Only, my girlfriend at the time starting screaming at me to not get involved and before any major altercations took place, the police arrived. -

I'd say something first, but if I had to, I'd step in physically. There is no bigger puss than a man who pushes around women and children. Girls fight dirty, and I'd use everything in my arsenal if need be, including finger nails!
