I usually spend several hours per day watching C-SPAN, and I saw actual proof that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and their fellow Socialists are to blame for why we are suffering at the gas pump now. Had they and their fellow Socialist Democrats not continually voted down oil exploration, we would only need to get 11% of our oil outside the US!

Perhaps high gas prices is the best thing that could happen to us. Finally, people will begin to consider alternative fuel vehicles.

I believe the speculators are increasing the price, at the bidding of certain nations within OPEC. While they appear cooperative through increasing oil out-put, the speculators force the price of oil up...all the time making money for themselves and the OPEC nations. We are in the middle of a rush to rule the world, and it is not just a good sense globalization policy of marketing. Nations have been fighting to control the world for centuries and now that the world depends on oil...well, we see who is making the best of this situation. Isn't the price of gas in Saudi Arabia around 79 cents a gallon? Dixie Ann

And no drilling in the US will help ease prices for years!. Everyone knows that and admits it! So why waste that time and money to prop up the oil companies? That is throwing good money after bad!! Let's use our vote for clean new technologies and let the oil companies and OPEC take a big fucking dump!

throwing money vote clean technologies oil companies opec fucking dump

Three Cheers! If only our nation's peole would unite and actually stop buying oil products for one entire day....the oil nations would feel the pinch...really hard. But, oil is doing more than fueling cars and heating homes. Oil is the source of plastic. Everytime we buy polyester products, we put money in the oil man's pocket. Everytime we fail to demand 100 percent cotton, natural fiber products, we make the oil people rich. WE need to stop letting our greed fuel our purchases and start looking at the reality of what these dollar store and walmart merchandise are doing to our economy...our nation...our job market...
Start looking for clothes that are natural fiber, stop purchasing items packaged in gobbs of plastic...write to your senator and congressmen to lobby for packaging control, packaging free of plastic. Hemp and other natural fibers could free our nation's dependency on foreign oil in a large degree.

There is enough blame to spread around over the entire universe. There is plenty of oil over here. I live in the town where Mobil once Magnolia Oil was founded, which is Corsicana, Tx. I also have lived in Odessa Tx., where my grandfather was one of the pioneer cotton farmers. The land would not grow cotton because there was too much oil under it. He sold the farm land to his cousin and did not keep his mineral rights. He was sitting right on top of an oil well and did not realize it. There is oil in Texas, Louisiana, Alaska, and alot of other places right here in the USA that we need to be taking advantage of. Still, we are being stupid saps and letting bring in the oil from Iraq. When are we going to wake up and do something about it?

Place the blame on "Investors" they don't actually take the oil, they just use "oil" investments to help boost up the ticker tape on wallstreet...hense, 401ks etc

Answered everyone is to blame ( we're all a bunch of saps )

There are many many factors but everyone is to blame.

If the environmentalists would allow us to drill for oil here at home we wouldnt have to depend on foreign sources....Alaska is a huge largely undeveloped state. Why cant the caribou be moved?

Speculators drive up the cost of gas by making "predictions" blaming the future rise in prices on the weak US economy, weak dollar and the increase in foreign consumption which causes suppliers to increase their rates by one wash sale after another.

Oil is traded in a foreign market in US dollars but without any government regulation from the US. As the dollar loses value oil prices increase.

Typical retailers only make 11-12 cents a gallon profit on gas. Credit card companies charge retailers 3% for each charge. With gas over $4 that eats their profit. Which then results in further increases. As one gas station increases their prices other gas stations in the area immediatly follow suit.

If Washington lobbyists, Bush and his cronies didnt all have their hand in the pot maybe they could come up with a viable solution.

If our governemt hadnt waged an uneccessary war in the region which we get most of our oil.....

And if people actually did their part in cutting back their own consumption demand wouldnt be nearly what it is.

The speculators appear to be the biggest cause at the present moment. That of course could be any one of us that has any kind of 401K or other type of investment portfolio. It's easy also when pissed off to blame the environmental controls because it seems like more production is the best solution. Of course the goverment is to blame as well, gee george Bush is an oil man from a long history of oil people, he should know how to fix this! in the end though, irrespective of the cost of gas I just want to be able to drive whatever vehicle I want, whenever i want, wherever i want. Don't even think about forcing any kind of controls on me! If God created Earth and Humans, didn't he intend for us to use what he gave us? Sure a nice white sandy beach unspoiled by oil is a nice thing or maybe it's kind of cool to visit the caribou in their nice little wildlife refuge, but WTF? Let's get that oil out of the ground and turn it into gas and desil, I wanna go for a nice cheap Sunday drive dammit! Where in the bible does it say that God intended for us to leave anything for any other generation anyway. I say use it till it's gone! It won't run out in the lifetime of anyone in existence today anyway. When it's gone it's gone, who the hell cares anyway? Maybe by then they'll be importing energy from other planets or something. Why the hell should we have to sacrifice and spend a lot of our money on gas?? I want to drive around and have some fun!
