Do you think having a gun in the house makes it a safer or more dangerous place to live?
Having firearms in my house definitely makes it....-
Answered Undecided
could be either one. having one in your house may be of use if someone brakes into your house and threatens you, but if there is a gun in the house, you dont know if a small child will find it and possibly get seriously hurt. so either way, it is your choose not mine. -

I personally belive that you have a greater risk of injury to yourself or person in your home (not someone commiting a crime against you) with a gun. I strongly belive you have the right to subject yourself to the increased risk. However, I don't think the public should also be subjected to that risk, so if your gun (used by your 12 year old child) kills mine, I think you personally as the gun owner should be held accountable. Maybe I should get to shoot your 12 year old? Eye for an eye and all? -

I don't really know because I don't have a gun in my house. I think it is safer because if thugs come into your house you can easly get your gun out and shoot them. But it can also be dangerous if you have kids and they find it they might think it is a toy. And who knows what is going to happen. -

If there's a gun in the house and it loaded around kids, then it's unsafe. If it's locked away for hunting purposes and not loaded, then it's fine. If you have a superhuman toddler with amazing capabilities of loading a gun and turning the safety off, then you better run.
On a personal note, I enjoy my baseball bat. It can be used as a toy AND a weapon... :-) And it won't kill you... unless you really try, but then I wouldn't advise on that... -
If you learn matrial arts etc. you can find that most household items can kill or maim just as easily as a gun and with more accurcy. and you dont have to lock them up. and you wont hurt somebody else by accident by closing your eyes and pulling the trigger. face it when it comes to be woken up in the middle of the night with a strange noise with ur wife and kids asleep you will be shaking and nervous and probably for the first time firing that gun. Unlesss your a trained killer you wont be walking around like James Bond calm and collected waiting to spot the intruder determining who it is then shooting with perfect accuracy. i dont think so.

Very very very true... my friend's a sniper for the marine's and i don't even think he's be able to handle that. But if I was an intruder and saw that guy coming down the stairs, I'd run. I know martial arts, but in the moment of nerves, I'd rather grab what I can and do what I have to do to keep me and my family safe... I just wouldn't shoot someone. I'd rather let them be very badly beaten or taken away by the police.

If an intruder comes into your home with a firearm and the intent of causing you harm, all the dumb chucks or tossing stars, baseball bats or kitchen knives in the state, or even your best attempt at a Crouching Tiger character, are going to save you.
You'll never get close enough. -

The truth is all Guns do is give you the illusion that your safer but you are NOT.. Most of the comments I have read here are just NRA talking points its sad and frustrating to see people brainswashed by them. Without knowing any facts. Of course everyone going to tell me to F*ck off and its a free country its my right etc etc. Again ALL NRA talking points. Talk to anybody on the front lines Police Officers, etc those people risking thier lives every day to keep the rest of us safe and you know their biggest nightmare is that they have to work under those conditions where every citizen is armed. Why are almost all police forces against that?? Makes you wonder doesnt it?? Most people end up shooting innocent victims family members neighbors etc. Stats show it but I dont want to confuse any of u guys with facts. All this is going to do is cause more criminals to have guns now they can break in your home and steal yours. The more guns that are circulated the more cirminals will have them, and the officers know that. -

i hink it will be safer then having a baseball bat because thats all that most familys have and what if it is someone like really dangerous that has been on the loose for a really long time for like killing someone maybe and they break in your house in the midlle of the night. -
To bolrog and also your daughter that snuck in late at night becsue she didnt want to get into trouble, and your next door neighbor or you wife or husband or relative that forgot the key to the house would end up being shot on sight instead. Just because you shoot somebody doesnt make them a rapist looter or Murderer. A bullet does not descriminate and more then likely if your at home and hear a stange noise and shoot first and ask questions later because your a "tough talking guy" the person you end up putting a bullet in would be a family member a neighbor or a friend and not the looter, muderer and rapist you think. This is not a liberal gun hating commie talking either what I am saying are just the cold hard facts any police officer, seccurity person would tell you. So wake up and stop living that dream the NRA brainwashed you with.

As long as you teach the kids, right from wrong, I was raised with guns in the house, and there was never a lock on any of them. We knew that if we went near them, then we knew our back sides were going to be really sore. It is called gun control for a reason. Be a parent, teach your child right from wrong, stop waiting on society to do it for you.....

It is ones right to own a gun...period! It is also a huge responsiblility and shouldn't be taken lightly. So much has gone wrong in the country in the past 30 years.
I hate that the government would even have to get involved in this issue...it's not their job to keep people safe in their homes...It is there job to keep the entire country safe??
I don't own a gun but I could honestly say that I've been thinking about getting one! -

It depends on the household. It is more likely for a child to get a hold of a gun than to have someone break into your house. But of course that depends on where you live. We have guns in our home but they are not loaded and they have locks on them. My husband is a deputy. We do have loaded guns but they are on safety and strapped into holsters. One is kept up high on top of a entertainment system. The other one is kept in the car in the trunk. My husband keeps all of his work gear there.

I'd rather wake up to an intruder with a handgun in my hands over a cell phone.
