Answered they do it because every one else does it?
I've never done drugs but my thoughts have always been is it starts with peer pressure then they don't know how to get off it. It's really sad because they give their life and money to those dumb lazy dealers who don't want to go to school or work hard for their earnings. I think people do it to deal with situations they are dealing with. Unfortunately drugs are not the answer. It's better to go to church and heal inwardly so you can feel whole and enjoy life the ways it's meant to be enjoyed. There is a whole world out there to be seen and traveled. Yes it takes working hard and saving up but it can be done. I am proof of that. I've been priviledged to have traveled and enjoy life on natural highs not false ones and guess what? I feel better the next day too...... :) -

In my younger, wilder days, I did marijuana, a plethora of downers, hashish, mushrooms, occasionally some speed, acid, cocaine or opium, but the mainstay was weed and downers. I didn't quit because it made me feel bad. The only time I ever had a bad experience was when I mixed Jack Daniels and purple micro dot on an empty stomach. Extremely bad idea.
I quit for two reasons, 1. I realized I wasn't accomplishing anything but getting and staying high. I could function in society well enough, hold a job, go to college part time, etc., but I wasn't getting ahead and 2. the state I lived in at the time passed some Draconian laws that made it possible to strip you of your belongings on the flimsiest of excuses. If they found drugs in your car they would take the car, didn't have to prove it was your joint they just took the car, same with your house. I was married by then and could not in good conscience risk my wife being put on the street just because I wanted to cop a buzz.
Why do people do drugs? The reasons are many and varied. I started doing drugs because I was far from home, bored to distraction, a nervous wreck and it was a very inexpensive and relatively safe way to relax. The drugs probably saved me from becoming an alcoholic. I was usually alone when I got high or with a small group of friends. The only thing at risk were the contents of the fridge.

While I have many pleasant memories of my "wilder days," I would not condone anyone doing drugs. They are far stronger now than they were in the 70's and 80's when I was active. The people that deal them are more dangerous and the laws more severe. Nowadays it really is better to just say no!(less)
