SodaHead - What's Bubbling in Your Head?
Do you have a boss or employer that rules and leads by intimidation ?
It seems as the Bush Administration is getting away with so much our employers are doing the same thing. Taping the phone lines , computer control -- Talk down to everyone --they seem to think they don't have to listen to rhyme or reason when subordinates try to explain something or challenges of the job. They make rash / fast decisions without any input from the employees. They tell us they have to put at least 2 needs to improve on our evaluation --because there is room for everyone to improve -- (This is in the public education sector) And to top it off, most of the top jobs --are from people recruited from Texas . They tell us remember : We know what we're doing apparently you all didn't that's why they recruited us to move to Calif .-

Well, I don't HAVE such a boss, but I HAD a boss like that. A real jerk who was quite short (surprise, surprise) and made up for his shortcomings with intimidation. As a boss I tried to NOT be like him.
My daughter worked for a telemarketing company that tried to control absolutely everything. Everything seemed to be done with the express purpose of making the workers know they have NO control. They didn't have their own desks, each day she had to go in and find a seat with her name tag above it, and you weren't allowed to have ANY personal items on your desk. One week you weren't allowed to have your coat on your chair, but you were allowed to wear it if you were cold. The next week you weren't allowed to wear it no matter how cold it was, even though the heating and cooling in the place fluctuated drastically, but it was allowed to be on the back of your chair. I questioned whether she had this right, but others who worked there assured me it was. The dress code was business casual, but on occasion they would announce that they had "gone to bat for you" and got a jeans day for the next day. But if you wore jeans on a day that wasn't a jeans day a person would be sent home to change. They quite proudly said they were a Christian company but the bosses would look you straight in the eye and tell you something that both knew was a lie. My daughter quit, mainly because the people on the phone were so nasty, but I had gotten to know some of the people she worked with and ...Well, I don't HAVE such a boss, but I HAD a boss like that. It seems that it hasn't changed much, but this area has high unemployment and they pay a little above minimum wage, so it's better than nothing.(less) -

Although she is not my boss, there is another manager that has lost three team members on her staff, due to talking down to them, she has only been there for 3 months at that. Thank God, My team is solid and I am her boss when the big boss is out/gone and am proud to say that I have 2 staff that have not left me in 7 years, and I treat her much better than she treats her staff. -

I had one straight from hell on my last job, the Director of Nurses, my immediate supervisor. There was a daily parade of female supervisors leaving his office with tears on their face, even down to insulting them personally, like that lipstick makes you look like you're dead, things like that. The male floor nurses got it in a different way if they were young -- cozy up a little or you're out of here. I was too old to interest him, but he got in his licks on me too and I dreaded hearing the pager call me to his office. I had a son to support and keep in prep school and I couldn't afford to antagonize him and end up looking for another job; keeping quiet while you're being yelled at is a frustrating thing to have to do for a paycheck. -

lol - you are going to blame your poor work situation on Bush - lol you have lofty view of your place in the world. Difficult bosses are everywhere, not just imported from Texas, how you go about dealing with them and doing your job even better is your focus - not undermining your boss. You teach right yeah focus on the class room not the faculty lounge. -

I used to at several different jobs....The last one thought he was God but he wouldn't have gotten into the business he was in if it wasn't for me teaching him how to tattoo....
Well, now he can have it all to himself, and all the headaches that go with it. Personally, I hope he chokes on all of it.....

I'm very nice to myself. I rarely talk down to myself. I always take my opinion into consideration.
