Is America headed in the right direction?
Surveys nearly always show Americans feel the country has headed in the wrong direction. Recent polls suggest nearly 80% of the participants disagree with the direction because of things like immigration, government spending, lack of civil rights, moral decline, etc...I think we can all agree that America has its problems, about which the news constantly likes to remind us. We don't see the good things that happen on a daily basis. The quiet good deeds. The longer life span and the shrinking of the gap in lifespan between rich/poor. The charitable giving. A safer world without the imminent threat of nuclear holocaust.
We also turn toward the government much more today than before to see the direction of our country rather than look at our neighbors to help them or build communities.
So, what do you think.... Whom do you blame or credit? How can we get things going in the right direction?

we all need to step up to the plate & take responsibility & build a better nation. government can't do everything & think for everyone while trying to please everyone. we have problems as do other nations in this ever changing world. it's up to the people. we are the people,we are the nation.

We need do a major reverse! Stop changing the country and get back to the principles founded on.Greed is destroying our country,we must shift the wealth levels. There are far to many poor in our US,need good jobs, less of the politics spending our money. -

There are two thousand former American corporations that have moved their Headquarters to the Cayman Islands to escape America’s high corporate taxes.
In addition, America has equal opportunity programs requiring corporations to hire a brigade of lawyers. There are many other changes in our laws that need to be fixed.
None of those changes will to occur under President Obama. America would still need less than 40 Marxist Liberals in the Senate to override a filibuster before we can become competitive.
Europeans, like Canadians seam to have recently figured it out but it may take us a little longer. -

A family cannot support itself on one income; cannot save money for a house, cannot save for retirement, cannot save for education, credibility is not based off of ownership but is based off of debt
Depends too much on outside sourced to raise our children; schools, daycare, babysitters
Both parents have to work to get by
Government cares only about benefits of big business rather than individual; does not support natural cures for disease and cancer, does not support energy sufficient homes (I am talking about homes that are capable of obtaining their own water and power) -

I think it takes a lot more than just 1 thing to blame or credit the result of a situation. It is never really that simple.
We are heading in the right direction in some ways and in others we are going backwards. For example: The EPA and its supporters are doing what they can to clean up our little corner of the world and we have gotten way better at recycling than we were lets say in the 80's and 90's. On the other hand, we rely too much on foreign countries to help fuel our lives, and I would think by now, we would be more self reliant. We have the technology, we have the resources yet we have not taken the initiative to make our government a self-reliant ran machine. We have been irresponsible in the practices of running our corporations, as far as out sourcing the customer service to other countries, losing jobs for Americans, and also the result ends in, to say the least, poor customer service.
There are SO many problems that I don't think I could sit here an name them all.
As far as who is to blame? All of us, if you get right down to it. -

America is moving in the right direction unfortunately our political system or more specifically the two party system is not. There has never been such utter incompetence in government as now. Probably due to all the dead weight in the government that never undergoes any RIFs. Too bad that we can't even find a qualified candidate to President but are always given these incompetent choices. -

There are millions of good people in the United States who are Honorable, Trustworth and contribute their silient support for this great Republic, but get no recognition. Instead we divide ourselves on petty things and these are maganified by the media to creat problems where no problems exist. Our elected officials and money managers are destroying the good in American with their greed and we are leting them do it buy not taking action and voting for the right people starting at home. -

So many Americans have decided that it's the governments job to take care of them and want all of us to foot the bill. The whole idea of socialism being labeled "change" is seducing people. Where hard work and success were once the goal, it's become dirty words and has people with their hands in your pockets whining it's not fair.
We are still the greatest country in the world and Americans still care and give of their own free will, how long before that changes? -

People need to stand up and take responsibility. Build a better future and STOP looking for handouts. Look, NOBODY wants to be poor, or homeless, or without food, and most are not that way, but the morality of this country is in desperate need of repair. When people look to someone else to solve their problems you have chaos and fear, and that is exactly what we are today. There is this turn that we are taking as a nation towards socialism and I think this is in large part to laziness. Take back your country, stop allowing illegal immigration, get a job, stop whining that you are poor, those that are truly poor are NOT on the internet!!!!! Sorry about the rant but we need to get a life. -

It is so difficult to wade through the media's presentation of life since they are in control of what we are exposed to and have a hidden agenda. I thank if people turned the tube off more often, we would not have such a depressing view of our country. I like information from the internet the best because then I am in control of what I read. I agree with you about helping our neighbors. It is where we can realistically make a big difference! -

I think things were so good for so long we took it all for granted. On the spot gratification"I want it and I want it now"and of course the CREDIT card got it for you.Now the $$$$ come due and there's less and less as prices hit the roof!! If you read the some of the biggest contributors to all the candidates were the oil barons...they keep their eye on the ball !!!Wake up time for us and if we learn to live within our means maybe things can be turned around.Small R.I. is 60million in debt...thus there have been huge cut backs..some good, some bad !! -

I am not sure what to think .I do know that at this point I am making about half the money I made last year . So for me thats a bad thing . I work with a few Mexicans and they tell me that the U.S is becoming more like Mexico everyday .I guess thats not so good either .I just hope that the next president actually dose what they say they will do .

because I feel we do not have best candidates to turn our economic problems around. That being said we still live in the greatest country in the world. Not perfect, but a hell of lot better then lets say Russia, Iran, China, etc. Many of us have become spoiled and have not seen what the real world is about. -

This country will head the way that other civilizations have travelled in the past. (Roman, Egyptian, British, Greek, British, Sumerian, Aztec, Mayan, Chinese, and many untold countless other Empires). When the people consume more than they are producing then they have to yield to a social entity to look after their well being. When those in the goverment become greedy and corrupt then the system starts to unravel; the leaders become demagogues that care less of those they serve then the common person has something to be concerned about. But; other civilizations will arise to replace those that self destruct of their neglect of their history. -
I dunno fef...all we can do is our best...that is all we can ask. My point of view is more historical and cyclical than anything else. We are easy prey at this time...maybe we are heading towards a socialist country rather than a capitalistic/entrepeneur country...whatever the outcome you youngins will have to tow the line...
