U.S. Government
Surveys nearly always show Americans feel the country has headed in the wrong direction. Recent polls suggest nearly 80% of the participants disagree with the direction because of things like immigration, government spending, lack of civil rights, moral decline, etc...
I think we can all agree that America has its problems, about which the news constantly likes to remind us. We don't see the good things that happen on a daily basis. The quiet good deeds. The longer life span and the shrinking of the gap in lifespan between rich/poor. The charitable giving. A safer world without the imminent threat of nuclear holocaust.
We also turn toward the government much more today than before to see the direction of our country rather than look at our neighbors to help them or build communities.
So, what do you think.... Whom do you blame or credit? How can we get things going in the right direction?

I agree with most everything you said. The country as a government has moved as you mentioned. Maybe we need to look at America's direction from a different perspective...
In the past 20 years have we gotten better/worse on these issues?
-- or look at it this way...
Has it got better for certain parts of the population? Women suffrage, abolition...
I think we should also consider looking at this question from an outcome perspective. We have it really good. While some laws have changed, they don't affect us for the most part (unless you get busted by the NSA for something you said on a phone call with an international terrorist). -
"In the past 20 years have we gotten better/worse on these issues?"
Worse, almost to catastrophic levels worse...
as for the certain people... Fredrick Douglass said it best circa 1860, and I am paraphrasing, if slavery was abolished today, the constitution would not need to be changed...
Do not get me started on suffrage, there was a reason why this country was created the way it was initially, critical theory calls it chauvanism, intelligent people call it reason....
From an outcome perspective, look at your parents life, and compare it to yours, how many families in the 50's to the 70's were one income and living well as opposed to how many are 2 income and starving? If this trend continues what life are you handing your children and their children?
If you do not own a firearm should you be ok with suspension of the second amendment?
If you agree with oppressive tyrants should you be ok with them taking away free press? -
I almost thought you liked women not voting when you said, "Do not get me started on suffrage, there was a reason why this country was created the way it was" - just kidding. I know you have your heart and passion behind equal rights and liberty for all.
-
It is not women voting or any people not voting...
It is as this nation was set up, the reason land owners were the only voters, and this I kinda understand, in the absence of wage taxation, who is paying taxes to the federal government? This also forced communication between the family and the one voter in the family about politics, as the one voter was the voice of the household. Besides, I think the founders understood the power of women, I know Ben Franklin did, in their ability to effect the politics of their husbands, and knew that they would use it accordingly... -

ayyyy. idk. i mean were still a great country and just keep getting better and better (i believe) compared to other countries.
but then theres like gay marriage which i dont mind, but as my teacher said, its just a step closer to losing out conservatism, not only that but also national health care, also i support but ehhhhhhh, if that happens the government is going to be like "we have to many doctors here, so were settting a limit of how many doctors can be in city according to population." so then all those people that want to be doctors but dont want to go live in like Alaska because theres a shortage of doctors over there when that doctor wants to live in San Diego, so then that person will have no choice than to lose his/her dream of being a doctor. which is a step closer to socialism.
i'm liberal but sometimes i feel like i have to become a conservative to keep this country what it used to be and stop all that change... but i guess when theres 300 million people in a democratic government there seems to be a lot of change wanted because everyone wants something different.
btw Fef, i have FF3 and i cant press the answer button, i had to go IE to vote right now and leave this comment >:0 -

We need to dive head first into the nearest altar at church or at home to truly confess our collective and personal sins, reminding the LORD of II Chronicles 7:14,KJV, while we pray for real sincerity in prayer. (Me first!) -
WinBro777, I love your choice of verses! I also want to say that American Men must "Man-UP", and start leading their families back to God, and also make choices at the elections that reflect what God wants from us as a nation! We ALL need to be on our knees daily, and turn our hearts & eyes to HIM, and walk paths that He would have others follow!

...And we have to STOP demanding a perfection out of ourselves that, even the LORD doesn't demand. We are called to a consistent obedience in the same direction, not a perfect obedience.
In the past two decades, we have thrown away perfectly good spiritual leaders on the grounds of moral failure. That means a comrade-in-arms was wounded on the battle-field.
Who cares if it was enemy-fire or friendly-fire? A soldier is wounded! We go after him, get him off the battle-field long enough to get him to the medics, apply triage, clean him up, and give him another "gun." As long as he's willing to fight, Let him fight!
No soldier in his right mind "shoots the wounded"? Why do we do that spiritually? I'm speaking specifically of soldiers, like Jim Bakker. He's triage and clean-up was a long period, but he is more valuable to the cause of Christ today than he ever was back in the '80s. (Who cares what worldlings think?)
More recently, the incident in Colorado Springs within the past two years...I surely hope the troops there are doing everything possibly to get that brother back in the saddle. We need him! Great mind! Great soldier!
When the liberals prevented us from impeaching Bill Clinton, it proved to me that the enemy will use anybody as long as they consistently support the cause. (The concept seemed to be, "He may be an A-Hole, but he's our A-Hole, and we're going to keep him on the front lines!")
Even the words of an enemy can be wise, if they emphasiz......And we have to STOP demanding a perfection out of ourselves that, even the LORD doesn't demand. We are called to a consistent obedience in the same direction, not a perfect obedience.

Even the words of an enemy can be wise, if they emphasize a true principle!
Let us not forget that Samson lost his reputation, his eyes, and ultimately his life due to immorality, but his faith in Yahweh was his soul's salvation, and his death was part of his greatest victory!
We don't have to understand God! We are called to obey Him and trust His unchanging character! :) (II Chronicles 7:14, KJV)

What direction is the "right" direction? Is there even a common ideology? If 80% of the people think things are going wrong, then do they blame it on the other 20%? Who is responsible for the direction it is going?
Some will say "the government". Well, who IS the government? They are people, individuals, with their own ideas of right and wrong, who are in a position to influence the policies that govern our lives. What are their motivations? All we know of them is the paper trail they leave, and the speeches they give, and what the media tells us of them. But, what are their PERSONAL qualities? Do these people have integrity? Do they keep their word? Are they honest? Do their own lives reflect the convictions they espouse, or do they simply maneuver themselves into a position of popularity, knowing that they will not be held accountable later? The political language used is confusing, complex, and contradictory, designed so that an ordinary citizen cannot fully comprehend what, if anything, is actually being said. Why don't they just speak plainly, so no interpretation is necessary? Why don't they just answer a straight question with a straight answer? In our hearts, we KNOW why.
Some people will blame "religion". The very idea of religion has changed dramatically. Today, even admitting a belief in God can promote division among otherwise peaceful people. People have somehow come to the belief that "religion" equals Godly. That is not the case, however. Religion is...What direction is the "right" direction? Is there even a common ideology? Some people will blame "religion". The very idea of religion has changed dramatically. Today, even admitting a belief in God can promote division among otherwise peaceful people. People have somehow come to the belief that "religion" equals Godly. That is not the case, however. Religion is a system by which an individual can revive their personal relationship with God. Any doctrine or scripture provides principals by which one can live peacefully with others while pursuing the goal of personal spirituality. When people LIVE by those principals, voluntarily and in agreement, there is peace between them, and those around them. Those people never have to be pointed out to us. They are a friend to everyone. Religion isn't something that "everyone" must accept, on penalty of pain, death, and damnation. Religion is something that one accepts for THEMSELVES. Never has anyone truly accepted religion by force or coercion or threat. They must see a living example of the principals, and voluntarily accept them for themselves. There IS no other way.
Some people will say that the decline in morality is to blame. What is morality? The dictionary says it is a system of right and wrong values, and good conduct. What is "right" and "good"? Is there a standard? We KNOW what is right and good, don't we? Throughout time and history, people have experimented with what is right and good. There is nothing new under the sun. The decline in our morality as a nation has happened before, in other times, in other nations. And the results of those experiments have proven time and again that non-violence, tolerance, duty, cooperation, self-control, honesty, cleanliness, education, service to others, and personal responsibility are the keys to personal happiness and prosperity, and the keys to the prosperity of a society. In any society where instant personal sense gratification and wealth became the goal of life, that society ceased to function, and inevitably was destroyed from within. A society in which the moral principals are the standard of life, wealth is an automatic result. Having money without morality is corrosive, and leads to false honor, false ego, false prestige, and misuse of power.
We can change the direction our nation is headed. One person at a time. Each individual must make the choice to accept the highest standards for themselves, live by those principals, and provide that example for others. If you do that, and I do that, then there are at least 2 people living in peaceful cooperation with one another for our mutual benefit. If 50 people do that, then there is an example of a peaceful society. That is our true liberty and freedom. This cannot be legislated. It cannot be enforced, or revoked, unless it is agreed upon. If we look around and see our society in decline, it is because that is how many people have agreed to allow it, trading in personal morality for mass greed. It simply does not work to "fight" injustice. We must BE just, individually. Why waste billions of dollars and time "fighting" the "wrong", when we can instill what is right for free?(less) -

We have far to many theives masquerading as Senators and Congressmen and women, our Judicial System is so corrupt and morally bankrupt that justice being served is the exception not the rule. Nothing that a revolution wouldn't solve. Our Government is infiltrated with deceptively sneaky people who's actions show a real lack of Constitutional accountabilty. -
