Group Question creative writing

Unmotivated?

raves +7   by alw_ays
Torturous methods
bring out
bland or biting words
too sharp to consume with the heart
barely comprehensible by the mind

yet...I get paid to write...how does one write crap and go on?

Crap would be in the eye of the beholder, and people have been going on after getting paid to write it for years! Photobucket

Writing what you feel like once you have finished the paid one....

I always want to write what I want first! I always end up editing out the "what I want" from the "paid copy"

    It just...seeps in...

I write too. I have this philosophy of photography that I like to apply to everything else:

"If you take enough pictures, you're bound to get some good ones."

    That's how I get mine.

Oh yeah! How do you get someone to pay you to write? I've never been paid.
  • raves +1   [-] by alw_ays
I browsed once for professional blogging and stopped after I got one hit, and my neighbor is a writer who needed an editor.

Dave, was it you I said...(see comment to IhrHase)
  • raves +1   [-] by alw_ays
I had to outsource my dish washing to my husband and a machine.

    I don't pay them, though.

I have a book...oh yeah there's someone who I told I would find a book about journals that accept submissions and pay...was it you Dave?

    I'd rather launder money.

Everytime that idea comes up everyone starts yelling at me about how hard I worked to get away from all that...

Answered You're writing's fine. Quit whining, drama queen

I don’t get paid to write. I get paid to teach English to Dyslexic teenagers. It's a thankless task. Under those conditions your use of alliteration, vivid word choice and pace achieved by manipulating syllables is refreshing - try to tell a teenager how to do something - I assure you they believe they already know everything. Then it is impossible to re-write anything - one of my kids last year told me “I already wrote it once” - It’s like a chicken looking at a chalk line. You are your worst critic always- lighten up. Try a ten minute free flow of thought - don’t stop for anything including punctuation. Spelling, or word choice just write whatever comes to your hand.
    Just a suggestion

    and
:(...I don't get paid for my poetry, though...and no one has bought any of my children's stories...It's the essays and the blog and the glug glug writing I can't produce any of, and that's my bread and butter...

Oh, I know, stop whining, you're a pro writer for godsake, but I can't "sell out" if I can't write enough to live on!
    grumble grumble...

free writing...like, the stuff you don't get paid for...

Okay, I shut up my mouth now...

Hmmm "sell out" - your implying what? I like to make kids read Walden Pond. There is something about transcendental Thoreau his choice to live the simplest of lives supported only by his own hand - chop wood carry water - he actually moved into his little cabin on July 4 1845 - The book written out in those woods but not edited and put together out there - that was done when he came out of the woods - perspective always clears the mind a bit - maybe you are just too close?

    "Sell out"
I write medical copy and financial blogs for pay, but I'm a children's book writer, poet, and essayist.
    eh, fine line.
  • raves +2   [-] by Di
oh....put it that way that does sound horrible. Most writers of English do drab copy though- its so hard to call it a sell out $$ eating now -got one brother that edits, I teach it, and another brother under writes insurance...That just one reason why I like soda head big time

Writing that feels good....I like SH. It is good
