Is the current little conflict just a set up for the major war that the Bush/Reagan administration has been planning since the eightys... The war with Iran?

Reagan and his buddies (Cheney, Bush Sr, Rumsfeld) made secret deals with the Iranians to hold onto the hostages and cripple Carter's Presidency (not that Carter would have been a great president), then they armed the Iranians in direct violation of the Constitution in the vain hope that Iran and Iraq would destroy each other. When that failed, and realizing that a direct attack on Iran would likely lead to nuclear war, they did the next best thing, invade Iran's neighbor, destabilize the entire region, and wait. Even the least sophisticated voter knows by now that there has never been any legitimate reason for the United States to invade Iraq, and there is no better explanation as to why the present Acolytes would do what they did than to set up the next war. -

You should cut and paste this all over SH, alot of people are ill informed as to the cause of the strife in the mideast... and this is a very clearcut informed explanation..... most neocons on SH truly believe that there is a legitamate threat posed by terrorists from Iran taking over america for Islam.

I don't think it's a matter of being ill informed so much as not having any desire to know. The lies that got us into Iraq have been exposed a hundred times over, yet something like 20% of the public STILL believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks. Someone (I'm thinking Jon Stewart but I might be wrong on that) said that the invasion of Iraq makes as much sense as it would have made if on December 8, 1941, in response to a Japanese attack on America, the United States launched an invasion of Norway.
The only way out, as I see it, is to elect a Democratic President and start to clear out the leftover Reaganites from the military, the CIA and wherever else they are hiding. I know Senator Obama is far from perfect, but a bad Democrat is better than a good Republican under these circumstances.

Yes, these wars have been planned since way before the Cowboy and Bush Sr. Remember... "Ten thousand point of light", "Welcome to the New World Order". Back in the eightys.
I guess Ronny was kept in the dark...besides, he did not remember much, since he was suffering from Reganatis.
But to me it is almost like deja vu all over again. We listened to the rhetoric for years and years before we went into Iraq. We did not go in the correct manner, we did not declare war, we are there and it is an endless struggle. And I cannot believe it, that we may well be on the verge of initiating the bombing of Iran! -
It's like americans have selective memory displacement..... somewhere along the line whole notion of why 99 americans were released from Iran by an act of "good faith" and the exact terms of the iran contra affair were never quite fully disclosed.... People seem to not corrilate the two as having anything to do with each other.... ever since then the US has been gung ho to get in there.... why?

It is very good ground to hold for WWIII and we will need it.
This war has been coming since WWI when the French and English broke up the Ottoman Empire and made a great big mess of the middle east. They screwed over the arab people back then and then it did not help when the Jews moved back in after WWII. The USA started messing up when we toppled democracy in Iran and put the Shaw in power.
In for a penny in for a pound!!
We are stuck with this mess no matter what we do. -

Or worse, the thought we are there for any reason relevant to Iraq is a joke, The fallout is the biggest issue. We have insulted the Muslim world, spit on their tradition and are taking sides with a religious faction, one of many, and that may be the catalyst of igniting a regional conflict that will touch, and may spread to all corners of the world. Before our eyes, the blind one, we have perpetuated a cleansing there, that went way beyond the removal of a tyrant, that will come back to haunt us as a nation, for generations to come. -

We are in Afganistan....we are in Iraq.....we are not leaving (its not going to happen).....and we will be in a conflict with Iran before Bush leaves office.....the world we knew has changed and will alot more -

Republicans or democrats have no say in this war and I do believe this is just the beginning. Soldiers on tv are already saying they will be there for another 10 years. Monetary gain is the root of this war and we will never see the profits only the dead and the casualties. The only way I think possible is to not encourage any soldier to return or anyone to join, let them fight their own war. -

iran has a ten year goal to distroy israel & a longer twenty year goal to distroy the usa. this is their revolutionary policy. iraq & afghanistan troop buildups are to contain iran. with israel & the usa out of the way,iran can spread jihad into the heart of europe.

They could try.... and try.... and try.... but the simple weapon of mutally assured destruction will in fact keep them from using nuclear force against Isreal and beyond.... and as far an invasion of the US... that seems like more of a pipe dream of dr. evil himself.. Any terrorist attack they could possibly deliver would be nothing compared to the devastation full scale world war and that is exactly what would happen. Pakastan already has an arsenal of nukes and is currently under majority of hezbullah controal M.A.D. keeps them from using their toys and always will. As far as Iran wiping Isreal off the map... I would sooner wait until the day they try... then the war would be alot eaiser won... Right now the only fight would be a conventional battle that would just leave the region alot more messed up and a whole lot of very angry muslims hellbent on destrustion. The Iran/Isreal thing mays well be east temor verses west temor conflict.... It truly DOES NOT AFFECT AMERICA unless you're a tourist or one of gods chosen people and going to hell to worship a wall in a warzone.
