Christianity
For example, I believe that Jesus Christ is The Messiah, "The Way, The Truth, and The Life." (John 14:6, KJV) No one may approach God, except in the imputed (i.e. "given to me") merits of Jesus purchased by His Death, Burial, and Resurrection on the Third Day.
I became a Christian when I realized and confessed to God that I have no power, no merit, no benefits in myself whatsoever to present to God for the purpose of bartering my own redemption on the slave block of SIN!
In short, I qualified to become a believer in Jesus Christ when I realized that I was an abject pauper in myself, a pile of caca, a corpse, a pall.
I have become convinced that the Triune God of the Bible is the only Self-Existent One, the only God Who has the ability to exist as God.
This convincing is in part due to the fact that this GOD is the only GOD in HIStory to prequalify is children on the basis of poverty, not perfection.
How did your god pre-qualify you?

I, like each and every other person in this world who has lived, is living, and will live, am an utterly sinful being, completely lost, and completely unable to enter Heaven of my own good deeds and righteousness. I thank the Lord Jesus for coming to earth, ministering to us, performing miracles, enduring torture and death on the cross, dying for us, and being resurrected on the third day to conquer death and sin for all those who believe. I am a believer because I know God is sovereign, the Bible is the true Word of God, Jesus is Lord and Savior, only His righteousness and death on the cross can give anyone passage to Paradise, and that one day, Jesus will return for those who love Him and end this world before creating a new Heaven for us and banishing those who hate God to everlasting separation from Him. -

I don't believe in God, but sometimes I wish I could. I do, however, believe in Christians' fundamental right to think what they want and practice their religion. Therefore, I am VERY cynical of the far left, due to their apparent war on Christianity. I truly believe that Christians are good people. Not the extremists that bomb abortion clinics and stuff, but the real Christians. The ones that live their lives by a code. I also think that Christians are better people than atheists such as myself. I'm not saying I'm a bad person, per se, but I believe that a true Christian lives his/her life with a slightly better value set than my own. I have tried to be a Christian, but it wasn't true. I didn't TRULY believe, and I was saddened by that, but hey, I can't force it on myself. -
PolSciBri, that was a truly straight forward honest answer! I wouldn't say Christian are "better" then non believers, just that we know the price that was paid for our belief. Don't give up on your search for God. I always believed in God but felt something was missing. There was, truly knowing who God is. It was like the Bible opened up and the words had meaning. The very same words I have read all my life, suddenly I "got it". If you don't mind I will pray for you. Believe me the end of the journey is worth the effort. Also, love your choice in books!

Your honestly and kindness is refreshing from someone in your stated area of belief. Please, be encouraged to hold onto that "wish." It certainly is an admirable.
I pray that the LORD may "connect-the-dots" for you soon and give you the peace that you hope to enjoy.
Just Remember that the Gift/Experience/Reception of Salvation reads, like a sports score...
Human Effort - 0
Jesus' Work (Cross & Tomb) - 100
Anyone coming to Jesus with this attitude...is saved. (John 6:37)

That gift is His son, through whom I have received my salvation. I asked Him into my heart, and the rest is history. I'm not perfect (not even close) but the One who is, forgave me my sins, and showed me the 'narrow gate' did it all. I've been bought at a terrible price. Praise Him who made it possible! -

" who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light." Colossians 1:12
Romans 4
1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?[a] 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[b] 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “ Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin.”[ -
Thanks friend! On this post most people hate Scripture being quoted .
Let me guess why, its because the Word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any 2 edged sword piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. -

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen." -

those answers don't fit me...I have had religious experiences...I have felt God in my heart...call it "born again" however it is more profound than that. God proved himself true to me. Believing in God is one thing, knowing God is another. still I have violent manic episodes and in 2000 decided not to live and attempted suicide. It was very graphic, the way I cut myself. I changed from loving God to hating God. I obviously hate myself. I don't know how I lived through it...did God save me??? I guess...
eight years later and I don't know anymore. I have felt God in my heart at least five times in the last three years. nothing like the first time, but He is still there, He tells me through my heart He is still there.
after wanting to die so bad and having suicidal ideation for 20 years it is really hard to live. somehow I try. -
Good Courage, Friend! It is always best to stay alive, if for no other reason than the possibility of finding some answers at some point.
I feel grieve for your pain. However, your experience is so different from my own that I may not have the understanding to properly address these issues. You have obviously been through some intense days. You are like the rest of us. You need encouragement from friends and other loved ones.
You are welcome to PM me anytime for encouragement, for prayer, for Scriptural advice, or merely for a listening ear connected to a heart that knows how to cry.
You are not alone. I've been here just a few days, but long enough to find you to be a likable sort of guy.
Bottom Line: You are valuable simply because you exist! I will help you anyway I can. Blessings, Friend! :)
Nahum 1:7 says, "The LORD is Good! A stronghold in the day of trouble! And He knows them who trust in Him!"

Tommy if I could reach through this computer screen I'd give you big hug guy.
I 've been there too, In and out pysch wards years ago.
It was one of the ways that God used to draw me to the cross of Calvary
where I saw my need of Christ as my personal Savior.
Please my all means keep in touch!
Remember salvation in Christ i.e. to be "born-again" is not dependent on human emotions -feelings but on the finished work of Christ on the cross his shed blood is the complete payment for all our sins past, present and future!! Its ours but to BELIEVE!! -

I am a sinner and thru the blood of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I repent my sins and shall be saved. Christianity infuses life with a powerful and exhilarating sense of purpose.
