Yes, they should be sure. But, also they may need to issue a tentative qualified warning in some cases IF a threat is severe enough.

Rather be warned than get sick and find out they guessed right all along. They are right more often than wrong. Why not tell us as they learn? Seems like a good idea to me.

The same as the beef recall that effected nobody yet closed a slaughter house and took the jobs of 270 people away over a cow that never entered the food supply.

yeah, because some people just bought a hundred tomaters and threw them all out after the scare. THEN they find out tomatoes are safe! waste of money!

I think they are trying to get it right. I also think that the source is likely foreign and, shall we say, 'harder' to trace.

Scaring us isn't as bad as the financial loss to farmers who let their tomatoes rot in the field because no one would buy them. On the other hand, though, we're talking about deaths and they might have been right.

they got the name FDA for a reason... why don't they try to pinpoint the cause before scaring America!
  • raves +1   [-] by JDandJBlover Poll Distroyer
yes but what if they thought it was tomatoes but didn't tell us and then did further research to find out they were right it was tomatoes and for so long they could have told us that but didn't because they weren't sure how would that would be even worse because more people would be dieing or getting sick
  • raves     [-] by ~Lissy~
hmm.. i guess so. it's just that they seem to keep messing up and yes ik that they're only human. but they should take some time to have at least some evidence behind their claim b4 going public

I'll heed -- and consider warnings -- however ill-informed. But don't tie me up until you know for sure.

How many people got ill, supposedly, on these tomatoes? Out how many millions of them eaten/sold?

How about they tell people to thorougly wash all their fruit and veggies before eating them, not just giving them a quick 2 second rinse. Running water, wipe clean with paper towel. And how about the FDA making sure the tomatoes are the source before making such announcements?
  • raves     [-] by Sister Jean
    almost 900 and 1 death
  • raves +1   [-] by Nowonmai
900 got ill and one died, and they selected the wrong source? That is frightening. Makes you wonder what it was that was making people sick, and how many more will get sick.
  • raves +1   [-] by Sister Jean
they had a new list on news tonight lots pf different kinds of peppers and some onions

personally I would tether see them be cautious then not- yes it has cost the tomato/farm industry a lot- hopefully they can regain funds through the government- but what if - and they weren't 100% sure- so they did nothing and people died- better to error on the side of caution.

i agree a lot if they hadn't said anything they would be in even more trouble if someone were to find out that they had an idea but didn't say anything people would be really mad so it is better that they said something

Better safe than sorry they didn't want people getting sick so they tried to stop people from eating them right away just in case because what if after first thinking it was tomatoes they didn't tell us and then did further research to find out it was tomatoes and tons of people were still eating them and getting sick so it is good they told that just in case my mom loves tomatoes if they ha dent told her and it really was tomatoes my mom would be really sick and i would be really sad

Edit: oh yeah sorry i meant to say no sorry to mess with the results i didn't mean to :)

  • raves     [-] by greenwoodtree
They think it isn't the tomatoes but jalopenos. A lot of the people who got sick had eaten salsa.

But im not supprised. The clowns of this failed agency should be terminated and posecuted. This failed administration, under republican control should have a food policy but, im sure the corps and lobyists wouldn't like that. That would be socialisim according to the blabber mouth idiots we tolerate. The s@it (POISON), should never have made it over the border, nor MADE IT TO the shelves of our food supply. We CAN SEE after the repeated incodents, that the ???????s at homeland security have thier heads up their butts or else they would be watching human consumption as a possible attack method in this country. Well at least they (terrorists) know that now, as if they didn't already. I can hear it now, as was the case with the towers, How could we have ever figured that they would do that? Hang'm all! This is just one of many things that get me going. Thanks Bush!

I think the FDA should get there facts straight, but then there are a lot of tomato farms in Florida. A lot of people depending on the local tomato farms. Even if the FDA apologizes, they are still screwed financially.
