Will you help combat the racist baby menace?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/education...

(from the UK)

'Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.'

The National Children’s Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.

This could include a child of as young as three who says “yuk” in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age. It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can “recognise different people in their lives”.

The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: “Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships.”

It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: “blackie”, “Pakis”, “those people” or “they smell”. The guide goes on to warn that children might also “react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying ‘yuk’”.

Staff are told: “No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action.”

most prejudices are learned at home an not in the classroom/day care etc. A child is given positive emotional regard and acceptance from a parent who hates and then the child shows he hates the same. It is an emotionally charged belief set stemming at home and harnessed by those that hate well into the formative years to repeat again until a strong one emerges and breaks the cycle with the possible price of being cast off by the family.

I hope this question was well intentioned. I would have preferred another option to respond. If you were an orthodox Jewish person, wold you want to have your child fed pork? If you were a staunch vegetarian, or feared peanut poisoning would u want your child to be forced to eat that or be accused of being racial?

I believe they are walking a thin line unless there is evidence in their country to support the warning to teachers. Evidently the country has experience some racially charged statements about ethnic foods and the country wants to sever the damage before it get out of hand. I believe they are better to judge this situation and racism in their country because they are familiar with the overtones of racial incidents.

FYI, I didn't like either of your selections but you never give an option as undecided or none of the above.

Ok the name calling is a good thing to stop early but the food stuff seriously? All kids say yuck to new food that doesn't mean they are racist that is just stupidity at its best.
