There was this little thing called a World War, that when the United States entered, we finished the job and saved many countries from Germany. Anyone with any brains know that Europeans are required to learn English so that someday when they meet an American, they can thank them in our language. The second reason is that if and when some Europeans decide to leave liberal Europe and come to the United States, they will be better prepared to be successful knowing the language. Certainly, there are thousands and thousands of Europeans leaving Europe to make a better life in America. I don't see the reciprical happening. When I served in Germany, the only words I really knew were, Ein Beer bitter. Barack is a disgrace to America and to the Democratic party. Im sick of being denigrated by him.

further more on your comment about people coming here and learning little of our language and everyone should come to America
A. america is far from perfect and many people wouldnt want to come here here
B. the reason people learn more of the language is 1. they are commonly made to learn it and like two other languages in school 2.they are forced to EX. go to Germany talk to four people chances are one will speak at least some English come to America ask how many speak German ... good luck

I disagree. I think it is arrogant of our gvt. to think that English is all we need to know. While living in Miami, FL, I learned so much about English, much more than I learned in school, simply by learning the smigeon of espanol that I did by interacting with the hispanic population. I believe it should be required to learn a foreign language(s) in order to graduate from high school AND college!! Statistics show that more people will be speaking spanish as their first language in just a matter of a decade or two. And people in Europe and Latin America learn English because they want to, not because they plan on moving here!! Even the British laugh at our English and believe it to be a bastardization of the language.-----Just one man's opinion and nothing more...

You are right. You are one mans opinion and that is all. First of all, our government never said anything about only needing to know English. So your post starts off very poorly. Secondly. Not everyone lives in Florida or states that have a large population of both legal and illegal Mexican Immigrants. Thirdly. You can't get into a college without 2 years of a foreign language. Fourthly. In this country our first language is and always will be English. And fifthly. I don't need to learn another language if I chose not to. I don't plan on living in any other country. And quite possibly, I may never travel to another country again. So if some Europeon or Chinese, or Japanesee...etc wants to talk to me, he had better speak English. or he can kiss off

I hold a baccalaureate in nursing which did not require learning a foreign language. Get your facts before posting. I have been to Europe and many speak English as a second language and for that I am grateful. They have no plans on moving to an English speaking country. They just happen to be more cultured than most Americans. And with your attitude, I doubt a European or Chinese, or Japanese would want to speak to you anyway.
As far as my statement about our government, I am referring to the fact that it is not required to learn a foreign language in elementary school. Children easily pick up new languages until about the age of 10, maybe 12 years. After that, there is a part of the brain that significantly closes off the ability to easily learn a new language.
Let's agree to disagree and be done with it.

Actually a BS, known as a bullshit degree and I have 2 of them, did not require a foreign language when I graduated. I believe now that the requirement to get into college is to have had a foriegn language. The jist of my arguement is that I think everyone knows that knowing a second language would be great. Hell, maybe Obama could come out and say hes embarrassed that Americans don't know calculus or chemistry. Many Europeans learn English as it is the official language of the planet. Now by saying that, doesn't mean English is the best, simply means its the most universal. And for Europeans to know it would benefit them more to know English than not to. Its not rocket science. More people leave Europe to better their lives than Americans leaving America to better their lives. I sometimes wish I knew how to talk to the animals before engaging in talk with Obama lovers. I think the animals would have more intelligent conversation.

Thank them for what so what if you "saved" us in WW2 that doesnt make your country any better than any other country its people like you the make America look bad, your ignorant i bet you believe that America is the best country in the world "Certainly, there are thousands and thousands of Europeans leaving Europe to make a better life in America." there are also thousands and thousands of Americans moving to Europe to make a better life for themselves.
And also why does everyone always say England or Europe... when they actually mean the UK? Thats never really made sense to me. -
Oh really? Can you prove that Americans are leaving to go to Europe? Leaving to go and pay $12.00/gallon of gas, skyrocketing food prices (much higher than ours), property taxes so high noone can buy a house. Not to mention there is no solidarity within the countries. Yea real fun. Be my guest. Dont let the door hit ya in the ass when you leave. Or, will you be taking your broomstick there? Because I can prove that Europeans are coming to America in record numbers.

I speak several languages. so, what! Does that means I am better than many people because I do! No it does not. It only means I was registered in a good school. That is all. Maybe Obama should open his eyes and focus on what is important, not what language we can speak.

Thanks to all that chimed in on this topic. Remember that with the presidency comes alot of responsibility and sound judgement. Obama has neither. It should be noted that more interpretors in the world come from the United States.
We need to band together and ensure a racist, white hating black man does not get the position. I would be all for a black man that had the qualifications to be the president. But Obama has proven himself over and over to not having judgement sound enough to be our leader. Everything from Lying about Reverend Wright, to attending a church that Wright spewed his anti American White hating speeches, to subjecting his children to hear this hate filled speech every Sunday, to hanging out with Ayers, to hanging with Farrakhan, ...etc. He's a terrible person.
I think when the election comes, the intelligent Democrats will cross over to ensure this does not happen to America. So let the polls say what they will. When the election comes, Im confident that McCain will be our leader. Its been a wild campaign so far. Theres plenty more time to show far loon lefties and Dems that Obama is bad for America. -
Yes, Farsi or Arabic is UN-acceptable as they are some of the least used languages in the USA.

In Louisiana, kids are required to take two years of a foreign language in order to graduate from high school. That doesn't mean that they are fluent in that language, but they do learn the basics. They would develop their foreign language skills more, but in most cases, there isn't anyone to practice those skills with. This is the United States of America and we (for the most part) speak ENGLISH. It should be the official language of America, and those who come here to stay should be required to learn it!

I always thought Barack and Michelle were a perfect couple. She has only recently become proud of the U.S. because of the fact Barack is running for POTUS. They'll have a perfect marriage after McCain becomes POTUS. Michell can go back to not being proud of the U.S. and Barack can remain embarrassed of the U.S.
