New Yorker cover depicts Obama as Muslim. Do you think it will have any lasting impact on his campaign?
An illustration on the front of the latest New Yorker magazine shows Barack and Michelle Obama in the Oval Office, dressed as a Muslim and a terrorist while an American flag burns in the fireplace. The magazine's editor says "satire is part of what we do," but Obama's campaign calls the depiction "tasteless and offensive." Obama, who hopes to be the first black-American president, has refused to comment on the illustration. The Obama campaign has had to fight an intensive e-mail spam campaign that claims Obama is secretly a Muslim, and his wife is a black radical.

No. It is not just a funny magazine cover, but it is not going to hurt his campaign. When will the "Media" realize that most Americans do think and we aren't so gullible as to be swayed by cartoons? Maybe we all need to start just talking to ourselves and avoid all "media". Would America get back to being America? -
Answered Yes. This magazine cover is going to affect Obama.
My first question would have to be what is the New Yorker's circulation outside of New York? more than 2? except for bringing it to the peoples attention, no one would have known about it anyway. We're not talking TV guide or Readers Digest here. -
Ok wow, I feel really stupid now. I really didn't even see the cartoon that way, but now that you mention it, that makes more sense. Still, the cartoon is easily misconstrued (as evidenced by this poll), and I'm not sure it was the best choice to put it on the cover.

I agree. The New Yorker is a very sophisticated magazine and should have been more cautious in a time when so much race and ethnicity based nastiness has colored what should have been serious political discourse.
I was maybe unnecessarily cranky when posting my comment. Sorry if I offended anybody! -
Answered No. It is just a funny magazine cover.
It's the New Yorker! It makes fun of the unfounded and dumb criticism of Obama. The New Yorker is super liberal. When are liberals going to stop cutting off their nose to spite their face. Seriously it's a liberal criticism of right wing nutcases. It's satire. Holy moly!!! -

I'm personally offended that Americans will even bring up a politician's religion as an object of shame or derision. (And these are the same people that are horrified that Christians abroad receive the same treatment.) It only makes the people against him seem uneducated and superstitious. -

Who would not be affected? "tasteless and offensive.?" That a good starting place...How about Racist...
Ok, It is satire, the problems is, Satire is lost on most of the Dumb Americans who never read more then the menu at the fast food joint and get their news from 15 second talking heads while waiting for the weather Report...

We can only hope & pray!It could be the blessing America is looking for. Maybe the Omamabites will see the truth finally about this guy,s hidden agendas. His backing by private $$$'s is very scary & dangerous to all our freedoms in this Country. He is allready owned by too many, that is why he has to spend so much time flip-flopping all over the place.
Wake up America and smell the rotten coffee! It's really kool aid!
