Melatonin, you can buy it in the vitamin section. It comes in 1 & 3 mg strength. I use it occasionally and it works fairly fast - no tired feeling the next day. The 1 mg work perfect for me. also there is sleepy time tea that works good to. -

I used to suffer from insomnia ALL the time. I now have the problem only every once in a while. There is one thing I have learned -- DON'T FIGHT IT! I just go to bed and lay there and relax. I do not try to sleep. I let the sleep come naturally, and it always does -- eventually. The more you fight it, the more aggitated you become and the less likely you are to sleep. If you are a praying person, spend that time to pray. If you are a meditating person, spend that time to meditate. It certainly helps me fall asleep. It is usually caused by having something on your mind, if only subconsciously, that you can't let go of or figure out. The prayer and/or meditation can bring that to your conscious mind and you can work it out and sleep.

A mug of warm milk, a Valerian tablet (it's herbal) and a sit down in a quiet spot to unwind with no outside distractions...
