Air Canada has cut several common routes, like Madrid to Toronto. This affects my family, a great deal.

US Air, because they charge for EVERYTHING now - including water. Pretty soon, they're gonna charge you to use the can.

I think they will form new mergers and dismantle the small ones.AMR,Continental, ect will survive. They will become more like British with only a very few carriers. The price to fly will continue to go up even if fuel prices come down. Its a tough business in a good economy.Fewer places to fly will be a result.Airlines will have to adapt to a whole new way of business.

Betting on which airlines will survive is like betting that everyone you know will live forever- You're very likely going to be wrong because ALL airline companies die miserable deaths eventually.

The first golden rule I learned when I started investing-- NEVER buy airline stock.

Yes I learned the hard way.. I thought I was being clever buying Continental Airline stock at what I thought was a bargain. I lost most of my money that way.

Think of all the airlines that have been in existence that you no longer see. Every 5 - 10 years they switch because airline companies are not profitable-- Fuel costs are too high per person and the profit margins are too slim.

Exactly... the problem is how energy inefficient planes are.. Compared to trucks, cars, especially trains... they're flying gas guzzlers.

Pan Am, TWA, different story, same result.. a lot of lost investment capital! (For everyone except Carl Icahn of course, who made billions by dismantling TWA)
