What do YOU think of the new "Slutty Barbie" doll??

The new Barbie doll, based on a comic book character, has caused outrage and controversy. In her leather looking clothing and fishnet tights she's a little more racy than the conventional version.... she's even been dubbed S&M Barbie because of her look!!!

What are your thoughts??

would you let your kid play with this?

I remember having a sea of naked barbie and ken dolls when I was little because they always seem to lose their clothes for some odd reason, so clothes on is an improvement no matter what the look...

I would have hoped that if they did make a S&M Barbie that it would look better then this. Tramporama, i dunno add a lil hot pink into it...updat ethe makeup style give her some tatts, more cleavage, maybe a corset..you see where I'm going with this. I'd buy it for my kid, have to teach them variation.

remember how everyone made a huge deal out of the Midge doll? the one that had the magnetic pregnant stomach that you could put the baby in. people threw a fit cause someone said she didn't have a wedding ring. i was 8, i had one and she did have a ring. i think this is just like that, it's being blown way out of proportion. and maybe it is kindof inapropriate, but it's nothing the kids won't see on tv or the streets.

Barbie's been setting a bad example for young girls for decades. Why should Mattel stop now? I mean, just look at the average Barbie doll... Tall, long legs, a nearly non existent waist, boobs that defy gravity... I could go on and on. Young girls grow up thinking "this is the way a woman is supposed to look"... Yeah, they're supposed to walk on their toes all day and carry their kidneys in their purse.
I'm beyond being shocked at anything Mattel does nowadays. Slutty Barby, S&M Barbie, Goth Barbie... who cares. It's the same BS as they've been feeding young girls for decades.

i read somewhere that with Barbie's measurements, if she were in human proportions she would be dying; at that height with her tiny waist and pelvis she would not be able to survive!!!
  • raves +1   [-] by Kuldaboli
You're right. Her spine would be unable to support her upper body weight. And where do you think I got the crack about her having to carry her kidneys around in her purse? ;-)
If Barbie were live sized. she'd be unable to walk on those stick figure legs of hers, her boobs would be nowhere near that firm, unless she had work done to make them that way, and her constant smile? Talk about stress on the muscles in her face! If live-sized-Barbie ever dared relax, she'd be dead within 5 minutes. *lol*
  • raves +2   [-] by Anjirocks
you're right, it's ridiculous, yet little girls are subconsciously being taught that this is the way women should look....
  • raves +2   [-] by Kuldaboli
And I don't see that stopping anytime soon. It's really sad. Barbie is basically setting most young girls up to become self loathing teenagers. Either that, or it's setting them up to strive to meet the demands of the fashion industry; where they are stripped of everything that a woman should wear with pride (hips, bust, behind, etc...) and turned into a freak show that most resembles 13 year old boys, if anything. It certainly doesn't look like any woman I've seen.

i AM a kid and i don't like barbies or play with them, but if i did, i don't think my parents would mind.

did u know that if there were real people, whos bodies were shaped like barbies, they wouldn't be able to stand up? or walk, for that matter.

Barbie's come a long way baby since the 50's. Back then when they changed the pony tail doo to the bubble cut we young'uns were totally in awe. It's not like I approve of this look but that's were society is these days. And I am guilty of playing Barbies with my step daughter and mostly what we would do was cross dress Barb, ken and Midge. We would be rolling on the floor laughing as we tried to get Ken into an evening gown. When finished we had a fashion show. It was one of our favorite games.

midge rolling floor laughing ken evening gown finished fashion games

This doll is part of the Black Label Collection. It's not meant to be a toy, it is for collectors. There are hundreds of Barbies that are made for collectors, not as toys.

... as long as parents don't buy these dolls for their kids. Mattel can make whatever they want - just don't buy it if you think it's that bad.

    Answered AWESOME!!!

    I think she's awesome!
But, if you think about it, She's modeled after the Black Canary, who is a superhero, and superheros are created for sexually repressed teenage boys. Whereas barbies are created for little girls....
    See what I mean?
Seriously though, they had to give her the Fishnets. If they were planning on making a doll of the Black Canary and they didn't give her the famous fishnets....that'd be dumb.

girls fishnets planning doll black canary famous fishnets thatd dumb
