    Answered This is now

We got that way because peace and love require GIVING, and "my way or the highway" requires TAKING. Since they are opposed to one another, they cannot co-exist nicely unless one agrees to be dominated by the other. The "my way" crowd, of course, wants to be the one who dominates, and unfortunately, they do. The reason for this is because it is easier to be selfish than it is to be unselfish. It is easier to take than it is to give, and there is always personal gain involved in "my way", but never is personal gain the goal of peace and love. As soon as personal glory, fame, profit, or importance become the goal, we set ourselves in opposition to love and peace.

i was just going over an idea with nickname......we could do a SH pledge where we all agree not to block, namecall, DR anyone we do not agree with, but to acknowledge that the opinion is different but respect each other for our opinions, and list out all the manners and decorom that we will use with each other...and when we find somone poking someone else's eye out we will ask them to be more polite and when there is someone who is just nasty all the time, then we will not go to their sites and they will only attract ugly people...all the beautiful people (as in not rude, obnoxious, mean, nasty, etc) will have fabulous polls and fun !!!

Sounds like a bonus to me. We could call it SH Peace Treaty and this is corny but because SH also stands for Special Home.

Since joining the site I've noticed an increase in hostile tones, judgmental edicts and some just very nasty people tossing around accusations. SH's have commented on it and some I believe left in disgust. Genetic? Ancestral? Maybe like 10% of the population is gay, the are a certain number of nasties are produced . Then I would say our challenge is to negate their power on our playground. Non responsive reaction seems a viable defense. You can't start a fight with someone who does not take the bait. Most likely they'll get bored and move on. regain our SodaHead sense of self and peacefully exterminate the bullies who refuse to play nice. I love it here the wonderful new friends that have wonderful points of view and humor and empathy and thought provoking questions, and advice and education and fascinating stories. SodaHead gives my sociological brain a jump start. I love people and I love all my soda heads and a lot that aren't yet. I want us to take the site back.

I'm with you, Molly. Non-cooperation is such a peaceful, easy solution to aggression in all its forms. Nothing is quite as provocative as silence, in my opinion. Don't respond, and they lose their power to disrupt and provoke. They may go away mad, but at least they'll go away. Plus, they may just learn to be civil and play nice.

Thanks Lori. it's amazing when we work together what we can accomplish. What a concept. I'm planning on a positive attitude drive as well. Belief in youself and belief in your gut feelings can bring only positive results in changing your life happenings.

Hi Molly !!! i loved your treatise !! i believe there is a certain percentage of the population that are trying to pull the rest of us down into their unhapiness, so the trick is to not let them !! I love how you put it..."you cannot start a fight with someone who does not take the bait".....we can ignore them !!! i am not sure who we are talking about but if they are angry, hostile and intolerant, then i am with you Molly..100% !!!

My mom used to always say "Rise above it!" and "them" are the bullies who bait and try to start name calling. Like any group they are all across the board I would think.

love you and thanks for your support

I spent 5 years in the Haight Ashbury, the epicenter of the summer of love, and I suspect(and have had this opinion backed up by friends who were there back then) that the love disappeared about the same time people realized the profit that could be made from all the freaks in the Hashbury.

There are many reasons for it, starting with the Vietnam Syndrome, the need to recapture the dominating military supremacy in the world, quasi, an obsession under Reagan, culminated by GW, lies ny politicians from both parties, greed from both sides, and the self-rightheousness of the right wing, conservative, and evangelical groups helping the Republicans remain and retain the power in DC for too long, the left wing of the Democratic party, as well, should be blamed for its ideological purety in picking liberal candidates to lose in the GE, every time, except in 1992 and 1996 with Bill Clinton as a centrist democrat !!!!

I think the Viet Nam war was the turning point. I left for Germany in July of '65 and when I came home in January of '67 it wasn't the country I left.
