It is said that 45 million people in the US are without health insurance. But did you know that 45% of these people who are not insured are not even US citizens? Also 8.5% of these people make over $75,000 per year! So before you answer this question do you really think health insurance is a problem? Are politicians using the number 45 million when in reality some of these people CAN get insurance but aren't? Share your thoughts and your opinions!

YES I THINK IT'S A REAL PROBLOME, HOWEVER I SEE YOUR POINT TO. ALL I CAN SAY IS IN MY DEFENSE IS THAT THE COST OF LIVING IN SANDIEGO CA IS HIGH, LAST I HEARD IT WAS THE 3RD MOST EXPENSIVE CITY TO LIVE IN, ANY HHOW I MADE PRETTY GOOD MONEY FOR MY AGE LAST YEAR, ALMOST A HUNDRED THOUSAND AND I KNOW I COULDN'T AFFORD MY COMPANY'S MEDICAL INSURANCE SO I DON'T HAVE IT. IV'E HAD IT AVAILABLE TO ME FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS THAT IV'E WORKED HERE BUT IT'S ALOTMONTHLY AND OPTED TO NOT HAVE THEM DEDUCT IT OUT OF MY PAY CHECK. THAT'S MY EXCUSE, I GOT ALOT COMING IN BUT ALOT GOING OUT. -

I think health insurance is not afforable for too many of the "working poor". Those who make too much for Medicaid and too little to pay the high premium and deductable. I also think the Insurance industry could lower their premiums but dont because Congress supports their practices and are in their pocket (Insurance,Drug Lobbys). I dont want Congress being in controll of our hospitals and doctors which are very good. People need affordable health insurance, it will be cheaper then the high taxes that socialized medicine will require. -

because we are paying for all the illegal aliens to come here and have there babies, the hospitals don't get paid, so the ones that have insurance are paying for them, send the butts back to mexico if they do not have a green card, and have insurance, OR cash for the bill right then and there. -

We make 'too much' for government health care like medicaid. The hubby's company is too small for cheaper insurance rates so we must pay $140 a WEEK for insurance. And this doesn't even cover everything. That's more than we pay for our house or our car. It's a sad state that our country is in when it comes to taking care of it's citizens. -

So many good points below, I don't have much to add. When we start with a system where we pay beancounters good money to limit our access to what we thought we were paying for, it's a BIG problem. When that system decides whether we live, die or go bankrupt, it's an existential problem. -

Health insurance is a major issue in the US. It is pretty sad when hard working citizens can't insure their children because the prices are so ungodly high for family health insurance. I hear this all the time, from SO many people.
And what's worse - the government fully insures non-citizens, illegal aliens and the like, as well as people who do not work (not because they can't - because they don't want to as it is much easier to sit on their lazy ass and sponge off the government), providing them with a multitude of benefits and tax breaks that all the US citizens pay for. Of course, the fact that we work our butts off and pay the taxes that provide for these benefits naturally means we have no right or claim to them! Hah!
If you do work hard - you get nothing in the US except a big F-you... Unless you make next to nothing, are a plopping baby factory or you are a green card holder, that is. There is no safety net for middle-class Americans with families. This country cares more about its illegal aliens than it does its own people! Don't even get me started... -

So 25 million legally documented Americans are without health insurance. And sure, they can get it, if they go without electricity. I know too many hard working families who are affected by this, and the fact that the richest country in the world allows 25 MILLION of its citizens to live this way is positively disgusting. -

The reason insurance is a problem in this nation is not because of how many have insurance, but how many are insured and their coverage will not cover much.
22.65 mill uninsured that do not make $75k a year or better, are you sure that this is acceptable?
If in deed these numbers are correct
http://www.census.gov/prod/20...
Page 26 of this 78 page PDF gives the census information and just so you know the census information does post numbers as people living here regardless of legitamacy of the persons...
Figure 7 on page 28 is showing a decline in insured persons, across the board for government, private and employment funded insurance...
And table 6 on page 29 gives numerical data based on nativity, Citizens and non citizens...
These numbers are for 2005 - 2006, as 2007 is not finished yet... -

I could write a book about this. I have VA insurance and I'm 63 years old. My wife and I were self-employed for 17 years and before that we lived in CA and I was self-employed there also. My wife worked outside the house then. Unknown to us my CPA was not taking out Social Security for my wife but only myself. Later after it was too late, I asked him why he did this, and his answer was, "I didn't know you wanted me to." Anyway, we had private health insurance, I had a second neck surgery, and our insurance went from about $600 a month to over $1,800.00 a month in less than a year. They priced us out and we had to quit them because we couldn't afford to pay that amount. Besides that it was going up by the month. I got on VA and she has Diabetes. She tried to get insurance many times and they put a rider on her illness and still wanted $850 a month. In the mean time I had major heart surgery and was in a coma for 4 weeks. To make a very long story shorter, we had to retire. I received 100% disability on the Social Security and 30% military. My wife cannot get insurance at all under a thousand a month. We cannot afford that. She is 62 and cannot receive any Social Security until 65 when she will be eligible for Medicare. As far as I am concerned, organized crime has gotten into the insurance game. We paid into the private insurance for 15 years and they priced us out which was their plan. There is no insurance available to her from any plan under a thousand bucks a month, we.I could write a book about this. I have VA insurance and I'm 63 years old. There is no insurance available to her from any plan under a thousand bucks a month, we’ve been down every avenue and tried every way possible. If she had paid into the Social Security program she would be eligible for Medicare but we did not know this was happening. Why pay for health insurance for her anyway when they refuse to pay for any problems they can associate with Diabetes? Now we stand to loose everything we’ve worked for all our life if she gets sick and has to go to the hospital. Isn’t that lovely?(less) -
