It is a part of history and should not be banned as if it never existed. 600,000 Americans gave their lives in the Civil War, a tragic loss that was necessary to purge our country of slavery.

I agree that the confederate flag should not be flown over public buildings because black Americans deserve consideration for their sensitivity to the confederate flag. Actually the confederate flag usage by racist whites after the Civil War has more to do with black sensitivities to it than the actual Civil War historical context.

I am a history buff and the Civil War is a critical part of our history. We cannot and should not deny our history by banning the confederate flag. It deserves to be flown over Civil War battlefields and confederate graveyards. What needs to be stopped is pushing it down the throats of black Americans in contexts that have nothing to do with its historical context.

The flag should not be banned. But it should not be flown over government buildings. It is apart of Americas history and heritage, but only as a symbol of bigotry and the dis-union of the U.S.A That is why it was created. Before the civil war, the stars and stripes were flown in the south. That is our heritage. why fly the flag of the losing side on Americas govenment buildings. Should we fly the British flag over the white house? Its a slap in the face at not only Black Americans but Americans in general who love this country. Because that is the flag of an army that came closer to destroying the U.S than any Soviets, Nazi's or Muslim extremists. And all in the name of a states right to deny freedom to large portion of its people.

Which question do you want an answer for? Banning the flag or flying it? The questions need to be seperated. No, I do nto b elieve it should be banned, it is a permanet part of history. As far as flying the flag, the decission should be left to the states involved. It is not a national issue.

It's an integral part of our culture and history. Banning it would not only be a gross violation of our First Amendment rights, but a clumsy attempt at historical revisionism. Slaves were held in the Union - in fact, Lincoln made a point of only freeing slaves that didn't live in the North in his Emancipation Proclamation. If you're going to associate the Confederate Flag with slavery, then associate the Union Flag with it, too, because New York had more slaves in it - owned by white people - up until the enactment of the Fourteenth Amendment than any other state in the Union (after the Secession). Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.

By the way, you're asking two different questions - "Would you be in favor of banning the Confederate Flag in America?" and "Do you think the Confederate Battle Flag (what a piece of spin, that phrase) should be flown from public buildings in the USA?"

i say undecided to deflect a misunderstanding that some may seek.

The confederate battle flag or the Bonnie Blue are relics of American History.
I see no problem with their presence on a private businesses property, so long as it is done in a respectful manner. There use to be 1 that flew at a Pawn Shop near me. Nobody for years had a problem with it. It suddenly disappeared [ theft or the owners decision ? don't know.]
I could even respect the 'black pride' flags over a companies roof, as long as they maintain the U.S. flag in prominance above it, which would be in keeping with the laws.

It is part of our history which we cannot deny or erase. But Fly the American flag above it. The American Flag should always take precedence over any other flag being flown in America.

I don't understand why individuals would want to fly it, but it is a part of our history. I can't imagine hanging any flag but the stars and stripes and the Christian flag. I would never want to fly something that I personally would have had no part in.

It is a part of our history. We may want to erase things that happened in the past because looking back we can see what was a mistake or what wasn't. But, all the more reason to not ban the flag. It serves as a reminder for what we should never have again.. brothers against brothers.

And I think it should fly above federal buildings along w/ the American flag in the South. It's part of this country's heritage.
  • raves +3   [-] by viper4358

    Answered Yes

Yes I do. It is not a symbol of hate or whatever your brainwashed minds were taught to believe. It is a symbol of Southern Pride and not wanting the Union to take away the rights of the states over federal government. The south should have won the war and this country would not be in the shape it is in today!
