Kathy Griffin made some colorful comments during her acceptance speech at the "Creative Arts Emmy Awards":
"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comic Kathy Griffin's "offensive" remarks about Jesus at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be cut from a pre-taped telecast of the show, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said on Tuesday."
Griffin's remarks:
"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus," an exultant Griffin said, holding up her statuette. "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now."
"It is a sure bet that if Griffin had said, 'Suck it, Muhammad,' there would have been a very different reaction," Catholic league president Bill Donohue said in a statement posted on the group's Web site."

Answered No, she shouldn't be censored.
Have we forgotten the 1st amendment? "Congress shall make no laws....abridging the freedom of speech...." Like it or not, she has the "right" to say whatever she wants about whomever she wants, whenver she wants. For those that didn't like what she had to say, now you know, and you can go and "boycott" her or whatever. But don't you dare censor her. Right or wrong, she still has the right to speak her mind. Period. -

Just another way for the Arch Diocese trying to take the attention off of the boy touchers they have. So she said stupid crap. Who cares. I was born and raised catholic and push peoples buttons with the same attitude. Religion takes itself way too seriously and needs a good kick in the ass once in awhile. She's also a has been, so why even give her the afterthought. -
I know that there is freedom of speech, but come on we all know or should know that all shows are censored to a point. Also I wish you would not push peoples buttons like you say you do and the claim to be Catholic. That gives all Catholics a bad reputation.

Ms. Griffin is free to say whatever she wishes. The networks, and their advertisers who pay the bills are also free to edit any comments they choose. Was her comment in very bad taste, I think so. Can you put toothpaste back in the tube? Nope, but you can put it in with the trash or flush it down the can. Do you really believe the only reason the spokesperson for the Catholic church issued a statement is to "take attention off of the boy touchers?" The Church condemned the comments, as is their inalienable right, just like the afore mentioned Ms. Griffin's right to utter her vile comment to generate publicity to boost her concert tickets, dvd and cd sales.

I left the Catholic religion at the age of 12. Not because my mother wanted me to, but, because of a little known belief by the catholics that a child has reached a level of consciousness to make their own decisions about religion. I also studied alot of other religions during my life. You don't want to get me started about how most catholics are hypocrites or how the religion you believe in is a lie. I will give one example though and you can continue this conversation without me. My ex-wife and I met while we were in the military. We decided we wanted to get married, but, to get married as catholics ( she was I wasn't) I had to go through 6 months of religious training. Like that was going to happen. I was an altar boy the whole time I was in the Catholic religion and I saw everything you could see. Anyway, we decided to get married by a magistrate. When we had children (2 boys) my wife went home to visit her parents while I was in Beirut. She went to her parish (catholic) where the priest had known her all her life. She asked if he would baptise our children, even though I wasn't a practicing catholic. Well, he flat out refused to baptise the boys, and even said our marriage was not valid in the catholic religiion. He said that until I admitted I was living in sin, that he nor any other catholic church would touch our children. What happened to "suffer the little children unto me"? Well, needless to say, If murder were legal, I would have done what needed to be done. We...I left the Catholic religion at the age of 12. Well, needless to say, If murder were legal, I would have done what needed to be done. We finally found a priest (Lutheran) who said that no religion, priest or person had the right to deny a baby a baptism, no matter what the parents situation was. So needless to say, Not every catholic is a hypocrite, but as Missouri puts it "you have to show me" you're different. My children were raised religious children no matter how much I dislike alot of what is taught. So NO catholic has the right to judge, condemn or say anything to me.(less)
-
I thought this conversation started because you were judging. Be what you want to be, doesn't matter to me. You have a grudge because one priest said something stupid, that's your business. You cannot say:
"So NO catholic has the right to judge, condemn or (say anything to me). "
You got to say your view and I get to respond when you make nasty comments about my Church. I don't condemn you. Don't condemn a whole faith based on one persons actions. -
Something in your story doesn't make sense to me. If you were Catholic, and an altar boy to boot, why would you need religious training.
There are lot of marriages in our family with only one Catholic parent. No problem with any child being baptized, including those with a Jewish parent.
No problem with a friend who is a single mother getting her daughter baptized, either.
Your story is full of hatred of the Catholic Church. So why would you want your children baptized Catholic in the first place?????
Your story doesn't add up. -
I thought the same thing. My niece was baptized Catholic, raised Episcoplian. Her husband is Jehova's Witness. Both no longer attend any Church but wanted the kids baptized. The priest at our Church was fine with baptizing their children with one minor stipulation:watch a video explaining baptism and what it means. I brought it home and we watched it together (15 minutes). As Godmother I had to agree to teach the two kids about the Catholic Faith (parents were agreeable to this).
In other words, no big deal. -
Answered None of the above
I have always DISLIKED her. She is loud and crass. I LOVE Stand up comedy, go to the clubs all the time and am never offended by nasty routines. It's part of their "shtick". But this girl is a no talent hack who has tried every thing to " get there " and failed. She's offensive. There should be no censorship in comedy BUT THIS WAS NOT COMEDY it was WAY out of place and as usual she was inappropriate and not funny. I for one hope this is her 10, and she's down for the count. Get a real job you ain't no comic! -
Answered No, she shouldn't be censored.
I think that it just makes her look tastleless, mean and classless. People aren't going to change thier minds about thier beliefs because that. When it is someone I admire that is being censored I get really upset so I think people need to get a thicker skin. Now if they censor someone making a crack at Islam and not at Christianity, they got some 'splaining to do!!
Honestly, I don't even know who she is!! -
Answered No, she shouldn't be censored.
Yeah, some Christins think they are the center of the universe. Cathy has the right to say what she wants about ANY religion at anytime....she has the right to an opinion and if you don't like it, ummm....that sucks for you but you will get over it.
Btw...If she said 'Suck it, Muhammad" THE CHRISTIANS WOULD BE GIVING HER A STANDING APPLAUSE....WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL? Lets be a little honest here....lol -
Answered This is just for shock. Don't give her more attention by censoring her.
She does not have to answer to me, but to God, What does the Bible say, thou shall not worship any false idols. Like the woman on Survivor, I applauded her when she got up and walked out when they were doing the budda ceremony. It is about time someone stood up for what they believe, heck with culture, if you believe in something, then you go for it. It is not my place or anyone else to tell you how to worship. If she wants to worship some piece of fake gold, then that is up to her. She will have to face her on judgement day. She got what she want, front page on the trash tabloids, so let her and her friend Rosie spin off into there own little world,
Answered Yes, this doesn't belong on the air!
I have to say am very NOT happy by what she said...again if she had slammed another religion there would be an outcry...I like kathy griffin..so she does say things ..well just to shock people and try to be funny...and frankly did anyone watch those emmy's..but leave my savior alone...
