Simpson Found Guilty on All Charges What do you think ?
by LINDA DEUTSCH, AP Crime News, National NewsLAS VEGAS (Oct. 3) -- Thirteen years to the day after being acquitted of killing his wife and her friend in Los Angeles, O.J. Simpson was found guilty of robbing two sports-memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room.
The 61-year-old former football star was convicted of all 12 counts late Friday after jurors deliberated for more than 13 hours. He released a heavy sigh as the charges were read and was immediately taken into custody.
The Hall of Fame football star was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges for gathering up five men a year ago and storming into a room at a hotel-casino, where the group seized several game balls, plaques and photos. Prosecutors said two of the men with him were armed; one of them said Simpson asked him to bring a gun.
Prosecutors said Simpson's ownership of the memorabilia was irrelevant; it was still a crime to try to take things by force.
"When they went into that room and forced the victims to the far side of the room, pulling out guns and yelling, `Don't let anybody out of here!' — six very large people detaining these two victims in the room with the intent to take property through force or violence from them — that's kidnapping," prosecutor David Roger said.
Kidnapping is punishable by five years to life in prison. Armed robbery carries a mandatory sentence of at least two years behind bars, and could bring as much as 30. Sentencing was set for Dec. 5.

raves +3 Oct 05, 2008 05:48AM GMTHe and his lawyer were at the jury selection from start to finish, they could say yea or nay to each juror... maybe they said yea to an all white jury, knowing they would loose and have to appeal... but personally he doesn't have a leg to stand on. My opinion.

I have mixed feelings about OJ Simpson. I watched the murder trial on tv. DNA evidence was very strong against him. The prosecution did a very thorough investigation. OJ Simpson did get away with murder. I did not like Nicole Simpson or her family. They lived off OJ Simpson's money. Nicole and OJ used drugs. OJ lost it with her. No excuse for murder. After this trial Simpson's possessions were taken from him; his Heisman Trophy, football memorabilia worth a fortune. OJ had to be broke with no tv commercial contracts, jobs in sports, nothing. Simpson had two reasons for robbery. He felt he earned those items but he desperately needed money. Simpson had to be really broke. OJ was once a nice young man who had it made. He was not a bad person. OJ had choices, made very bad ones. Many people took advantage of Simpson being very generous when famous. Nicole was no good, she took advantage of him. This current trial was payback time for OJ Simpson. Ofcourse the jury should find him guilty of armed robbery, legally he was wrong. OJ deserved a prison sentence. In reality they threw the book at him for getting away with the murder of Nicole and Goldman. In my mind I remember a hard working smiling young man brought up right by his mother. I liked him. Mike Vick was a pro football player. He was evil, uncaring. OJ was not like that. The judge and jury sentenced OJ for two trials. Legally wrong. OJ alone came to two roads in his life. He had the choice which to take. Sad story. -
raves +1 Oct 05, 2008 12:58AM GMTStrawberry........I like you and find you are a fair person ...... and I don't disagree with your opinion in the least. But I myself just can not forget the antics of the first trial and what a farce it was. If I was a juror on this robbery trial.......I have to be honest, I could not be unbiased. But I do see your side of it.....and this is sad he chose to go down a one way street the wrong way. But murder is murder, and one pays someway, sooner or later.

raves +2 Oct 05, 2008 01:33AM GMTI am convinced OJ Simpson was guilty of the murders of Nicole and Ron Goldman. I was very angry the jury found Simpson not guilty. OJ actually payed a worse price out of prison then he might have in prison. I often wonder if someone helped him that night. I personally know what it feels like to really lose it! I never murdered anyone, but could have if I did not stop to think of my children first. I have seen the best of people driven to do horrific acts, not in their nature. You are right. Murder is murder. OJ payed a big price out of prison all these years for those murders. If he was always an evil man I would not have some feeling for his plight. OJ Simpson should have stayed with his first wife who was a good woman.

raves Oct 05, 2008 04:12PM GMTstrawberry, you are obviously more knowledgeable about OJ than I am. I only know about him from the news and the trial. I watched all the news, every bit I could. I saw the long so called chase, when he was going down the LA freeway at a casual pace with all the cops paced behind him. I watched the trial and could draw no conclusion but guilty, I've heard bits and peices about his life after the trial (which I wouldn't want to live with the stigma he has), and I understand how a person can totally lose it in a moment to regret it the next. I have never felt sorry for OJ, and have only felt disgust for him. But that video that I put at beginning of this poll.......did make me feel a certain small amount of sympathy for him. Because, for the first time, I saw him show real honest emotion ! And you are the first person I have heard talk about a positive side to the man. Thank you.

Watching that video I saw him go from a goofy expression to one of resignation. He seemed to age from the the start of the video to the end. By the end of the video, he looked like a tired old man. I don't have any sympathy for him. He thought he could get away with anything. Well, finally, the right virdict was brought in. Better late then never.
