Obama's starting to pull out John McCain's connection with the Keating Five. Senator McCain should thank Obama for bringing the subject up. McCain should then follow up by giving a very quick, and easily verifiable, synopsis of the incident and how it changed him. Keating Five represented a low point in his life, but gave birth to his desire to reform the political process -- something that he's been working on ever since. The Senator should going on to point out that the Democrat-led Senate Committee charged with investigating Keating Five found that although McCain had attended one inappropriate meeting, he was, according to the New York Times, "exonerated" of any wrongdoing. The New York Times also stated for the record that since McCain was innocent of any wrongdoing, he would have normally been dropped from the investigation entirely, but the Democrats refused to allow it -- because then the Keating Five would have become the Keating Four, and a Democrat-only scandal.
The Times also helpfully points out that it was the Keating Five mess that turned McCain into the politician he is today -- almost obsessed with getting money and corruption out of politics, in direct contrast to any inclination shown so far by Obama. -

This is not relevant in this election. Nobama's relationships are very recent. The other will not stick or hold any merit. John McCain has proven he is an American combat fighter pilot hero over communist held enemy territory in North Vietnam. What has Nobama even ever done, NOTHING AT ALL THAT I CAN FIND? -
raves +1 Oct 08, 2008 02:08AM GMTSo you would rather just ignore mcains crookedness, his lies, his voting with bush 90 % of the time, his cheating etc etc etc , because he was a pow and was in ememy territory? Obama wasn't old enough for the war.......Mcains been in politics 26 yrs and increased his wealth but hasn't helped the people imo........

McCain was cleared of this. Check your facts. Is Obama that worried he's bringing out old news that happened before most of the people voting for him were born. He has a time frame for removing the troops. He says 16 months they'll be out of Iraq. My question is will they be here or will they be in Pakistan? It's like Clinton's I did not have sex with that woman. What do you consider sex? I consider a BJ sex and I think Obama is giving this nation a BJ. -
raves +4 Oct 07, 2008 02:46PM GMT (edited)Not quite Plant. Because of his position and prominence he got a "pass" like so many who should know better, but use their influence to get away with what the rest of us would get in deep trouble for.
There are videos, records, statements to the fact that McCain indeed did all he could to help Keating in his scheme to defraud the country. There are financial records that he accepted a very generous contribution to his campaign for said services. Further, McCain lobbied for and got rid of the accountability and oversight that would have helped prevent this.
What makes it so egregious is that McCain piously recanted his actions and he said he learned many lessons. He learned nothing and his votes in the years to come to undue and not pass any accountability over the country's treasure bears this out. -

McSame is living in 7 or 8 glass houses and really cannot afford to throw a pitbull with
lipstick & high heels. this was the worst savings & loans scandal ever and wife got her
share of it too. Obama has never been charged with a crime and had it been him,he would have been gone with the wind.

I think scoobie has more brains than Palin and is a heck of a lot smarter than McCain.
I haven't forgotten that he voted with Bush 90% of the time. They are both losers.
Obama/Biden '08 has my vote. Yes we can!!!!!! -

If I didn't have grandchildren who will suffer in the future I'd be OK with Obama. If he's elected I can't wait to see the disappointed faces when you realize that he's just a politician who promises much and delivers NOTHING. Just like he has done to Chicago, absolutely NOTHING!!!!

raves +5 Oct 07, 2008 01:38PM GMTI gave you a rave gracie because I found this rof funny LOL ! Unfortunately for America and the world............we all, including you, will be plunged into the depths of the worst depression America has known, if those two EMPTY HEADS you are voting for get into office. Most people who are voting the repub ticket are the ones in EMPTY SUITS with EMPTY HEADS ! LOL ! So we Democrates can't expect the Repubs to actually utilize something that they lack !

raves Oct 07, 2008 01:44PM GMTSince the Democrats ane right up front and center in this latest economic meltdown and the housing downfall in general I sure see where you come from. If you are socialistic which I believe you to be you are so right to vote for Obama. If that is what you want for America then you have your man. I want the America my ancestors died for. They were in the Revolutionary War and I had two Generals in the Civil War who died fighting for freedom. If you want to throw that all away so be it. I sure hope he can meet your expectations because he sure has promised the moon.

raves +4 Oct 07, 2008 02:43PM GMTHow? Was it the 14 of the 16 previous years they had been in power? Opps..sorry that way your Reichthuglicans who were in power.. they were lead the the little Stalin style mini dictator Bush..
Get your facts straight lady.
People like you oughn't be allowed to vote ! -
raves +1 Oct 07, 2008 02:50PM GMTIf you stick your head in the sand about the backers and supporters of subprime mortgages then sure you don't know how it all happened. I thought Bush was too stupid to be a dictator. Aren't you giving him too much credit. That's the problem with the Bush haters, he's running everything but he can't tie his shoes. He controls everyone and does everything he wants but he's a moron. There is a flaw in your theory. I know you don't want people like me to vote because I'm not voting your way. I think things were cruising along in the economy until the last two years. Oh, except for the Fannie Mae - Freddie Mac crap that Democrats built, promoted, and then destroyed all by themselves. Yep, I can see why you wouldn't want me to vote.

raves +4 Oct 07, 2008 02:56PM GMTBush had an open checkbook for not only money but power plays for six years..2000 - 2006 in which a serious erosion of our Bill of Rights took place and he claimed presidential powers not actually granted by the constitution under the guise of wartime powers.
Only a supporter of the right wing Reich could support the prime protogee of this horrid man. I look forward to you having the endure the terrible burden of peace and prosperity you must be forced into having with Obama, whom other world leaders including Iran are willing to work with.
Yes, to you peace and prosperity, hopes and dreams may be abominations.
To me they are the future. -
raves +1 -1 Oct 07, 2008 03:03PM GMTYeah, there was no congress only Bush. They didn't vote on the war or funding or anything else. They were in recess for 8 years. You really think Obama is the messiah don't you. You're going to be really disappointed when you find out he's just a plain ole politician. May all your dreams come true.

Another great post Missnomee, thanks, maybe some people that were not around during the 80s will watch and google it to get a better understanding of exactly what McCain's M.O. and plans are.
