EBay Cutting Jobs: Will other internet giants follow in EBay's footsteps?
EBay, internet mogul is cutting jobs, shoring up business and possibly setting a new trend. EBay will be laying on about 10% of its work force, which equals about 1,000 employees. Along with cutting back on personnel, EBay will be spending a lot of money in acquisitions. Chief Executive, John Donahoe, is worried about the current economic weakness and the stronger dollar affecting EBay.The San Jose based company will buying up other companies to reduce some competition. To start, EBay will be buying PayPal rival, Bill Me Later, another online payment firm, for $945 million. Also, EBay will also be purchasing other advertising sites such as BDA.dk and BilBasen for another $390 million; this is a strategic move to help expand advertising in Europe.
So, EBay is trying to prepare itself for the future economy, do you think other internet giants will follow, such as Google and Yahoo?

Do whatever it takes to remain on top of the pile of internet companies. With the worlds economy going the way it is, I wouldn't rule out mergers and hostile take over bids to become even more prevalent. -

Answered No, I don't think the other internet giants will follow EBay in cutting jobs.
Shake their heads in jaw dropping wonder at the short sightedness of E-Bay execs.
I'm actually quite surprised at E-Bay. It's basically one big electronic Pawn Shop - and guess what type of business does well in economic hard times? Yes you can pay new staff less money, but you still have to train them. -

Attempt and will be motivated to do so. This is an example of Hostile takeover of the industry, in this case (ebay), at the expense of its employees, who to a large extent were responsible for its success.
