Answered neither gave me much
Since I'm unemployed, due to the abysmal state of our economy, I didn't go to the link (how much tax can anyone impose on $0 earnings?)
The fact of the matter is, it really doesn't matter what either party promises - about taxes - or anything else - it has never happened that campaign promises have come to fruition. Our debt to China is so huge, our spending in Iraq is unbelievable, our bailout scheme can't even be put into words. No matter who wins the election .... he will inherit such a mess that his lofty campaign promises, will, for the most part, fall by the wayside.
It'll be just like this political year ... they used to talk about the war, immigration. and foreign policy. Suddenly, there's not a single peep about any of that and the only rhetoric is on economy and taxes .... all went by the wayside ....
I do hope we can get the national debt under control, retool the tax code and take care of the numerous other issues we used to hear about. But I'm not convinced any of that will happen ...... -
raves Oct 10, 2008 03:36PM GMT (edited)I guess you have to call it a "tax cut" but,... it's more like an "re-balancing act" I think?,...I just know families are hurting,...I was at Sam's club the other day where a couple had their credit card denied,..the cash girl said that's been happening a lot lately,...I pay my bills and live in my means , no new car , no flat screens , don't go out much and it's getting tough! I don't think McCain's answer to bail out irresponsible people is the answer either!

Suffering through the last 25 years of the war on the middle class, I do not find this at all a suprise. In the debates, Grampy McSame couldn't even say "middle class" but used the phrases "middle income" and "middle tax bracket". It's like he couldn't even acknowledge that this is and always has been a class war. It is time for all to pay their share. I am taxed 17% for regular pay and 33% for overtime. People who's income is solely derived from investments pay capital gains tax of 5%, 15%, 25,or 28% depending on the amount of ADJUSTED income( which means they get to subtract their loses from their winnings, unlike the rest of us; when we get called of from work we can't subtract that day's pay from our total earnings) and then there is all the generous tax loopholes and credits which make these percentages even lower.

This is not surprise. I compared their plans side by side and Obama's plan is far better for the middle class citizen and minimum wage earner. It always seems to me that the Republicans want the rich to get richer and they don't seem to care too much for the rest of us. Go Obama 08'!!!!!!!!!! -

Great site; send it to everyone you know! The difference between the GOP and Democratic tax policies is: The GOP say cut government services and cut taxes to the rich so they can make jobs; the Democrats say take care of the country and the people and cut taxes on the very wealthy, because they need a healthy, well-educated middle class to stay competitive in the global market and consume - besides, if you give tax cuts to the wealthy, they just buy extra houses, cars, and $5,000 purses. We gave that, "trickle down" thing a shot, and all we got was p***ed on. -

While I'm strongly against govt waste, esp the corrupt contractors use of our money during the last decade and for unjust wars, I believe strongly in the need for taxes for key infrastructure. If we can't support a strong infrastructure, education, science program, smart defense, and keep a balanced budget, then the value of our dollar will decrease (which is more costly than taxes) and our economy will collapse. That said, I'm leary of cutting too many taxes, esp. when our deficit is out of control. However, I think Obama's plan isn't a bad one. We need a fair tax code. Bush's and McCain's tax cuts mainly benefit the wealthy. If the middle class falls apart, the standard of living decreases for everyone, including the wealthiest, so I'm not sure why this isn't more of a common sense thing. Never has anyone given me a compelling argument on how privitization of everything will be in our best interest. We see where some of that philosophy has gotten us with the financial markets. Uggg....it's tough being a liberal.
