Should charges be filed against Barney Frank for his involvement in the financial crisis?

Barney Frank Hit Over Boyfriend’s Fannie Mae Role

Critics are crying “conflict of interest” over Democratic Rep. Barney Frank’s live-in relationship with Fannie Mae executive Herb Moses while Frank was on the House Banking Committee.

Moses was Fannie Mae’s assistant director for product initiatives from 1991 to 1998.

He was also openly gay Frank’s live-in boyfriend during that time, while the Massachusetts lawmaker was on the committee that had jurisdiction over government-sponsored Fannie Mae, Fox News’ Bill Sammon reported.

Now that Fannie Mae is at the center of the recent financial meltdown, the relationship is coming under increased scrutiny.

“It’s absolutely a conflict,” said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute.

“He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?

“But everyone wants to avoid it because he’s gay. It’s the quintessential double standard.”

A top Republican House aide told Fox News: “He writes housing and banking laws and his boyfriend is a top exec at a firm that stands to gain from those laws? No media ever take note?”

Frank and Moses met in 1987 and lived together in Washington, D.C., until they split up in 1998.

National Mortgage News disclosed that Moses “helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs.”

Critics charge that such programs led to the mortgage meltdown and the recent government takeover of Fannie Mae, according to Fox News, which noted that Fannie Mae and its financial cousin Freddie Mac “are blamed for spreading bad mortgages throughout the private financial sector.”

In 1994, Frank thwarted efforts by President Clinton’s Department of Housing and Urban Development to impose new regulations on Fannie Mae.

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +
5) American's were buying new cars,taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!...

But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;
2) Gasoline is has been over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 2% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!

YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE...AND WE SURE GOT IT! ....

REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.

AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!

JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?

    It is wishful thinking I guess but seeing him and some other low-lifes being taken out of their offices in cuffs would be kind of nice.

    Where is the line between in keeping personal out of business? It is very unprofessional to engage in Barney's type of behavior in his occupation. He should be held acountable for any wrong doings on his part. Anyone else would be!

    At the very least, he needs to be removed (forcably, if necessary) from Congress! And while your at it, take Pelosi, Dodd, and Reid with him.

    Unfortunately, it won't happen. Their BFF, Obama, will make sure it is all swept under a very large rug -- one that we, the taxpayer, will have to pay for for years!!

    that would be like throwing peter rabbit in the briar patch. There are enough homosexuals and soon to be queens of the jungle in prison
    Besides Barney would be among old friends, Republicans as well as Democrats

    disgusts me to find these sort of things out. the gay thing, who cares? not me. there should be stricter laws on our congress to prevent such things from happening, but we know who makes their laws & they will never do that to them selves!

    IF YOU DO THE CRIME THEN YOU DO THE TIME! THIS IS HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO WORK ANYWAY. IF WE MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR SOME THEN WE THEN SHOULD MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR ALL SHOULDN'T WE? BUT THEN ISN'T THAT THE IDEA WITH THE WHOLE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUE? AH, ANOTHER QUESTION FOR ANOTHER TIME.

    Answered Hey, it's the nature of politics.

    Barney Frank is not the only one, bought-and-paid-for, by Wall St.! There are reps and senators, on both sides--who are owned by the corporate-moguls! I do my research--I know who they are! This time, a mojority of repubs said, "NO"--however, it wasn't because they were acting for us--there's an election, their seats are up-for-grabs! When they went home, they were innundated with calls, from their constituencies!
  • raves +1   [-] Brutus ~777~ aka Seth replied to tibetsun
    They should all fear for seats. Maybe that will keep them honest (LOL).

    Republicans, including the president, and Mccain tried to get a hold on Fanny and freddy from 2001 to 2005. Their regulator has no power, except to report Issues. The Democrats, yes all Dems, Defended Fanny and Freddy in hearings, you can watch them on c-span, or Utube. The Democrats were running the stockmarket, and paying off the Democrat congress to keep Fanny and freddy from being investigated. What they caused was the Biggest scandal in our countries history, and the MOST people got hurt.
  • raves     [-] Brutus ~777~ aka Seth replied to Formulabruce
    Yeah, I saw that on c-span. Maxine Waters and her tirade, shaming the regulator and calling his ethics and judgment into question. All I can say is "shame on her".
