Do you think people that choose passages from the bible to condemn others should hold themselves accountable to the passages that pertain to them?

Answered Yes, because all sins are equal in the eye's of God

But only they and God can truly hold them accountable. None of us can be expected to be our "brother's keeper" as it were, who on this earth truly has that kind of time? Personally, I find it pathetic - weak people who need something to shift the weakness from themselves to someone else to make it easier for them to live with their sad and useless lives - that's my opinion of it. Harsh, perhaps, so down rave away lol - I'm used to it and, frankly, I welcome it. I wonder, however, how many of you would "down rave" it if you COULD NOT DO SO WITH ANONYMITY? Typical of this type of person to downrave what they don't agree with rather than consider another point besides their own might be valid - why? Because, for them, no opinion matters but their own. Now viewpoint is valid but their own. No one is ever right but them. Ok - now bring on those thumbs down!

Jesus said he came into the world not to condemn it but that the world through him might find forgiveness because the world is condemned already. So we should use the bible to show people that they are forgiven. Romans 1 says that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God for forgiveness of sin. so to tell people they are condemned without offering an escape from it is cruel and ungodly. After all Satan literally means accuser.

God's word is true regardless of who uses it or what motivated them to do so.for example:
someone might actually be hatefull and use a true scripture to "put someone down" God will hold them accountable for their motive. But, if it is true that the receipient is not walking appropriatly before the one true God then they will be held accountable also. Scripturally there are degrees of sin.

1Jo 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

Sin is sin. It keeps us from God unless we repent and accept Jesus. We are to instruct people not condemn them. Judgement belongs to the Lord.

But as a Christian we should not live in sin, but repent when we do wrong. Yes I sin, but when I realize me wrong I do ask God to forgive.
But for someone to live in sin and say they love God they do err.
Fornication is wrong, I know a lot of SH people who are gay/bi/lesbian but say they love God they err from the word of God because they are not repentful of that sin.
because the bible even goes so far to say If you know to do good and don't that is sin. But Making it right with God is what counts.
I do not always do good but I try. And if I wrong someone I try to make it right.
    Not perfect just forgiven.

Great poll, most people only use the bible to condem or correct others Unfortunately they fail to read it to make themselves more like CHRIST.

Answered Undecided. I think the bible is a good tool, with good guidelines but cannot necessarily be taken too literally.

Using the Bible to condemn people should be against everything a Christian stands for - unfortunately many Christians seem to have a need to condemn others in order to prove their own "holiness". It's sad. So yes, if someone tries to use to Bible to condemn someone else, I might point out the passages that they don't follow and see how they try to explain that away. I like to try to make people think for themselves - unfortunately, some people seem to lack the capacity and would rather just parrot what someone else has told them.

    Karo,
Very well put. People find speaking the words quite easy, they just have trouble living up to them. Thanks, Davidaaf

They certainly should. By judging others, they're breaking their own rules--judge not lest ye be judged. I think what was considered sinful in the times it was written would not be as harmful or harmful at all anymore. When people use the Bible to discriminate against other people, they're not helping their cause because they're giving themselves a bad name.

It has been rewritten and rewritten and rewritten so many times. Let's not take this for yesterday's news, here, people.

Agree with Hank and Sister Jean.
It is fine to use the Bible as a guideline to living; however, it should not be used as a weapon. And non-believer should not use a person's religious beliefs as a weapon against the believer, either.
    Peace.

By condemning others they have already condemned themselves.
The Lord said, "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned." - Luke 6:37

Some parts of the bible are written just for sinners, some parts are written just for saints, and then some parts are written for everybody. John 3:16 is written for sinners because they haven't been saved yet, but the scripture is letting them know that if they believe and come to Jesus he will save them. Other parts of the scripture that talks about how the church should function and how we should love our neighbor and pray for people is dealing with saints who have already been saved and then other scriptures like "whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap", deals with everybody whether you have been saved or not.

Yes, but not because all sins are equal, but because those that randomly choose passages would be hipocritical if they did not hold themselves to their own standards.
The part of the old testament in the bible that condemns gay people as "abominations" also dictates that if a man rapes a virgin he must be forced to marry her. Give me a break.
Jesus said nothing about homosexuality - just said to love one another. The intense hatred of gays of the extreme religious right does not seem very Christian to me. "hate is not a family value".

I don't think that God gave any of us the job of condemning our fellow human beings, regardless of whether one can find a biblical passage that can be interpreted or misinterpreted to condemn others' actions. I thought Christainity was supposed to begin with love and forgiveness not judgment and condemnation.
