Do high school students need less homework and more yoga?

In this New York Times article, a principal of a school in Massachusetts is taking measures to fight stressed out students who put too much on their plate and try to be over achievers.

"His new stress committee is starting to come up with recommendations, like the relaxation consultants, and is surveying students about unhealthy stress. This term, Mr. Richards is talking up the yoga classes that are required of all seniors. He has asked teachers to schedule homework-free weekends and holidays."

Do you think this is beneifical to students? Should students be taking yoga?

    Answered Nope. I think....

I think they need -more- homework. When I am faced with college students who think I am crazy for suggesting that they spend at least two hours outside of class working problems and doing homework for every hour they spend in class...something is wrong in the preparation they received in high school. Most, not all, of the students I see are lazy, want to have to only attend class - if that, and then still receive an A. If this is a reasonable expectation, then I definitely missed that train somewhere.

Answered Yes, more yoga and less homework! Kids need a stress reducer.

Boy, I wish I could have taken yoga in high school. If I had I might not be so inflexible.

Oh yea, and I am sure its a big "stress reliever" for the kids (aka screw around time).
