What is your preferred "level of government"?
I had trouble wording the question without showing biasThere are movements to increase the level of government as there is to decrease the level of government involvement in our lives, which philosophy do yuo prescribe???

80% Less Government. Start by killing all the silly spending bills. Eliminate the IRS, FCC( at least restrict them heavely), board of education, privatize healthcare with current spending thrown into tax credits to be paid to insurense of choice, the kill mdicare and medicade and any other government providers. the list goes on. Term limits on congress and the senate and maybe even the judges.Outlaw lobbiest contributions, put the on the same playing field as us simple folks. Big changes to lawsuits. More power to law enforcement. Let them have less fear of being put on the chopping block for the silly shit. I think cops of 30 years ago were better and so, more effective.
Reset terrifs on imports to encourage our companies back to US soil. Heavy sanctions on countries sending us dangerous products. Kill all trade with unfriedly to the USA countries. I better slow down as I might give away my entire platform for the 2012 Presidential race.
Oh above all defend our non living non breathing US Constitution at all cost. This document may as well have been carved in stone! The Amendments are a different thing as they may improve upon the constitution, but never take away! -
I understand the sad state commercial broadcasting is in, and the need to qualify programming for family needs. These reasons contributed to our decision to disconnect our satellite dish. I believe you are a proponent of personal responsibility, and all that implies, as such shouldn't we be able to impose our own controls? That in a vacuum, of course. In the current state...we're neigh on screwed i'm afraid.

That is true that we are responsible for what our children see. My problem is that I can draw my sidearm and fire two accurate shots faster that I can change the channel with the remote. Many times you get hit with suggestive commercials an are stuck explaining birthcontrol douces and many other products. Or you get Pepsi or some other non sexual product that has to have an element of sex anyway, because it sells more product.
Off subject: Did you hear that Nickelodeon has some shit on with kids protestig our troops for torturing the enemy? What in samhain is that? More flipping propoganda, but now aimed at our youth. Gee lets brainwash any bit of pride and patriotism out of our children with Dishonorable lies. -
I can rant and rave all day about the FCC but you pretty much nailed it. There's this technology that's been around for so long but people don't know about it. It's called your fingers. If you don't like what you are hearing....change the dial!
One thing though, the consolidation of the media is the result of Bill Clinton and the deregulating of the media. This has allowed what was once known as a monopoly to be legal. -

At all levels, City, County, State, and Federal, and that includes Federal Courts dictating laws that should only be passed by Congress and enforced by the President. If you truly have a separation of powers the separate them...... -
Well, the best way I can explain is look at what the government originally planned on, then look at the difference today with the government programs, and then envision a government that has more programs to offer people but at great cost to the people...

In any society, people always want to be the special exception to the rule. When they get their special treatment, they generally take away the rights of others. Programs, I would think, try to provide everyone a chance to get their special treatment without hurting others: part of that defend and protect adage. Not to offend, but the "I'm a grown man who can do it on his own! I want my money back from the government! I want to have control of my life! I don't want to be forced to do anything!" attitude often leads to others' toes getting stepped on in his pursuit of going at it his own way. So, I see the need for programs.
On the other hand, I agree that too many aspects of our life are governed by too many things. If everyone would play nice in the pursuit of their own happiness, I'd say let's have as little government as possible. -

Less (government) is more (liberty).
Liberty made America great, not government but this concept has to be continually defended because human nature pushes us away from self-reliance and toward dependence.

When two out of every five adults in this country work for the government, we definitely have TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT!
The original concept of the Constitution and the Amendments was to supply a minimal amount of rules and laws. Somewhere along the line, every member of the Congress has decided that they have not served the will of the people unless they manage to sponsor a bill for some fool reason. They are writing laws to enforce the laws that already exist. True, some of the legislation has been beneficial, but by and large, most of it is either nonsense, or redundancy. The amount of paper the Congress can generate in one session is enough to fill several warehouses, and that's just the FEDERAL government. Let's add on the State, Local, County, Township, City, etc. governments and we are buried in bureaucratic fools! -

I have been debating this question for quite some time.
I would like to say that less government with a libertarian spin would be beneficial....but I do not think our country is in a position to thrive off of less government.
If a true libertarian took office and began changing things, I thing it would be a shock to most people how much is provided to them by the federal government. -
