Do you think PC has gone too far in this country ?

A seventh grade class in Winchester, Ma. was to go on a field trip to see a live version of "Miracle on 34th St" when a couple of parents complained that it is offensive to them, so as a result the principal caved in and cancelled the trip. His excuse!!! " The content of this play is all about Santa and everyone doesn't share in this belief. Do you agree?

It has gone WAY to far. WHY on earth would a few parnets want to mess up a trip for all the other kids. YOu see, if you don't like something don't look at it, don't listen to it, don't read it, don't watch it. I don't like watching shows about Animals, or even watching any show on Animal Planet really (cause it tugs really bad at my heart strings 3/4 of the time) so what do i do? I TURN the channel. I don't watch it.

If you didn't like your kids going on this trip to see a live version of Miracle on 34th st. don't let them go. Now what you have done is caused a BUNCH of other kids to be VERY mad with YOUR kid. That isn't helping your child make life long friends and can make him or her learning at the school harder. Because trust me, Kids are mean, and it will be a while before they forget.

And as for the Princple, you really should have stood up and told the parents that if they didn't like it, they didn't have to let their child go see it. What is so wrong with that??? Who cares what it is ALL about, its a "movie" or a "play" in this situation. It's MADE up, a fantasy. Give it a rest people and get over it.

Wouldn't have been an issue except the principle knows that not caving into the forces of PC will get his butt sued by the ACLU. (Anti Christian Legal Unit)

Way too far. Soon we'll have to carry notebooks so we can remember all the things we can no longer do or say. Next they'll be monitoring our thoughts.

If you don't want your child to go, don't sign the permission slip. How tolerant is it for someone who doesn't want to participate in a trip like this to deny it for everyone else?

So then don't send your kid, but why ruin it for everyone else?

Yes, this PC thing is turning into a joke......actually more like a wedge, causing the dislikes and hatreds between all us human beings to remian in place.......I personally think we should all see ceremonies from other cultures, be exposed to their beliefs without pressure to convert, and do more to come to know each other.....I have nothing against a member of another religion or culture participating in its traditions......but I also want those other religions/cultures to let me participate in mine.......

Here we go again we cater to everyone else and we must learn their traditions but when it is ours we get shut down. I am sick of this. The schools do it..and not just for Christmas but for Thanksgiving. In Seattle there will be no Thanksgiving traditions because it offends the Indians who stated in a letter they have been betrayed by the white man. However, we must learn the TRUE meaning of Thanksgiving by the Indians who stated they were stabbed in the back for a friendship with the white man. I am so sick of all this PC crap and YES it has gone too far.

What's the big deal...if the parent doesn't consent...those students can have free study time at the library..why cancel the trip?!?! That principal is such a wussy...

Yes it has gone to far and has for many years. The principal had better get busy, Harry Potter, Huck Finn (and all of Twain's writings because he is a racist and none of his works should be available to young minds), take out all fiction because I certainly don't "BELIEVE IN" characters that don't actually exist. I don't believe in Jesus, Buddah, Mohammad, Moses or atheists. I don't believe in war so remove history. I have never seen an atom so don't teach others about them. We can just stop teaching everything because someone will be offended by something.
What I do believe in, is that we need Teachers, Principals, judges and juries, politicians and so many more to develop some testicular fortitude and say enough is enough.

You don't want your kids to see the play...Keep them home. The principle violated the other kids rights of those who do believe him by not taking them to the play. Fire Him....Sounds like a good law suit to me.....

That principal should be fired. If a couple of parents didn't want their kids to attend, they could have kept them home. You have to sign a permission slip to allow your children to attend field trips. If a child didn't bring their slip in, would the trip have been cancelled for that? If that principal is such a wimp that he would cave that way, he has NO BUSINESS running a school. He shouldn't even be teaching in a classroom. If I was a parent of a child in that school, I would be trying my best to have him removed.

I hope that I am answering this question correctly. YES, I think PC is totally over blown in this country. NO I do not agree with the principal caving in. It use to be that if you did not agree you did not send your kids to see it and if you did agree they went. SO I think if the parents do not want their kids to go then they should not let their kids go. Their problem not mine. I would love for my kids to go. We will watch the movie this year as well. Just another case of rule by minority instead of majority.
