I hope that the new type of popular hip hop/rap is dying out, but real hip hop that actually means something should live strong

it's not dead because half of the radio stations in the country play nothing but it! however I do think it is decreasing in popularity. And I couldn't be happier. Good riddance!

hip hop started dieing when the top two captains were capped. from that point on hip hop went in a totally different direction more totally different it went from being under the control of the real into under control of the benchwarmers and with corporate america keeping it contained and directly profiting from it it will be exploited to the max te rap itself will catch a bullet

hiphop has one of the strongest pulses out there right now. and by pulse i mean, influence in minds young and old.

I say this because it isn't how it used to be back in the day with Run-DMC and all those that paved the way. Now hip hop sounds like a bunch of computer noises and a bunch of guys hollering and shouting out the same thing. (Walk it out) or (Party like a Rockstar). You actually consider that music? It's garbage, straight up.

I'm a Black guy that was around when Hip Hop and Rap originally started. I'm disgusted with the foolish lyrics and bafoons we now see paraded on BET and other music videos. I wish they would clean up their act, or go away forever!

Just saw P Diddy at the unemployment line. What is his latest name anyway....Puff Daddy, Puffy, or "The artist formerly known to Puff (~) "?

I think that in 10 years, some of these rap videos are going to be looked at and laughed at as much as some of the hairspray "metal" bands and some of the trendy pop crap from the '80's are today. It is really just sophomoric nursery rhymes set to a beat (you can't even call it music). Some of the early rap music at least had some substance and cleverness to it, but now it just seems like some idiot reciting simple poetry to an electronically-produced drumbeat, and not much more. It is just bland, lame drivel, and in its present form, it will not last. It is played. And I mean played OUT.

No, I don't think that Hip Hop is dead... it's just regrouping and redefining it's sound. Since the Don Imus slip of the tongue, people linked Hip Hop into the negativity and name calling and now Hip Hop is having to step up to the plate, grow up and become more women friendly and Black friendly by no longer referring to us as a bunch of ‘hos and ‘N’s. Hip Hop will live on, this is the perfect time for the ol' school Hip Hoppers to make comebacks like the old Rockers did this year.

Totally agree with you- the only reason that I haven't been listening to much of the newer hip hop is because I don't agree with how the music degrades women!
  • raves     [-] B4Real2Me replied to Riah
I still listen but I select my choices better. I've never been into those who degrade women and tend to listen more to people like Common who has a message in his music.

Hopefully originality makes a mainstream comeback in some musical form...

...perhaps then I will start listening to the radio again.

Do you know how Rock started? Many rock artists in the past attribute Black artists like Chubby Checker, Ike Turner, Little Richard, and a slew of others. Rhythm and Blues helped Elvis become the man he was.

And there are many people back then and today that wish ROCK would die.

its dying, slowly. its simply getting played out, too many artists trying to make it big and too many record labels trying to make a quick buck putting out crap music.
