How important is the Iowa caucus to the Presidential hopefuls?

How important is the Iowa caucus to the Presidential hopefuls?
Lots of candidates have been putting huge amounts of time and money into working towards an Iowa caucus victory. The race seems to be extremely close on both sides: Clinton, Obama, and Edwards are all neck and neck for the democrats, while Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney seem to be in the lead for the Republicans. Also, Ron Paul cannot be counted out of the race seeing as his candidacy raised 18 million dollars in less than 3 months.

Many Iowa caucus voters will wait till the last minute to actually make their final decision... such voters could make or break any candidates chance at winning this first caucus. What do you guys think? How important is the Iowa caucus to the presidential hopefuls?

Answered Extremely important!! Lots of people only vote for a candidate they think has a "chance" and this sets a major precedent!

I bet we have room to let all 3 live in the White House, and all 3 decide what decisions best to lead our USA?

I cant decide between Huck, Mitt and John!

I like all 3 immensely, for diff reasons. How about they decide to be "one for all, and all for one", and we let them all "party as one", and all three would discuss and decide the best thing to do for the world in the White House office, and all 3 contribute to lead the USA?
I want to caucus, but I want to know long can we be expected to have to be there?

Answered The Iowa caucus' importance has been vastly overstated... There are still 49 other states!!

The IOWA caucus is given too much importance by the media. The turnout in Iowa was only 16.3% way below the average of regular primary turnout. Is this the percentage that you want to have such a mojor impact on the candidates?

Answered Eh, its certainly important, but its not going to make or break any candidates run

I tend to remember the winner of New Hampshire more - the Iowa caucases are a funny sort of process that not many Americans, including myself, even understand. The first state primary that I think may give us some strong guidance on the likely winners will be Michigan.

I think Iowa is a imortant state to win, but there are still so many other states out there. It's not like whoever wins Iowa is elected, but is nice to win Iowa. I am totally for Ron Paul.

It sucks that if you don't live in Iowa or New Hampshire - 2 of the least populous states in the Union - you have NO SAY in who the candidates will be. They ought to have all the primaries on the same day, then the top 2 or 3 can fight it out until their respective conventions.

With only a 16.3% voter turnout in Iowa it appears as if even most Iowans did not have a say.

Anyone who is not a media favorite, is not going to get a fair shot at the white house. If your not one of the picks, then your are not going to receive any time unless they can find something negative to say about you. It would be truly nice if the media would report honestly on each and every candidate and let the people decide, but unfortunately the media have already picked their choices.

Faith based voters and those who vote on the best shot are such a waste. Educated voters are the best shot for this Constitutional Republic. There is only one candidate who through out his entire career has remained consistant within Constitutional values and has voted accordingly. Bet you can't name him? If you can then you are most likely voting for him! Congrats to you!

President Bush came into office at a very differcult time, He did a fantastic job and still is, but on some things his hands are tied. Bully for Mr Bush. He would be welcome at my home any time.

Bugman -- not a chance in hell! However, I do believe he has been disrespected as a candidate by being ignored by the media -- he raised a substantial amount of money, so has a good following -- EVERY candidate has the right to get his message out there in every debate!

The Iowa caucus is so important!! So many people take for granted how fortunate we, as Americans, are to even have the right to hold elections. We are not being shot at or bombed during the process. Because of our freedom we are attending caucuses in our own neighborhoods, taking part in the process, learning about the candidates and the issues that they plan on addressing as our next president. We are being Americans. Iowan's take this process very seriously and set the standard for the rest of the country and perhaps the rest of the world.

Major importance, this affects how much money a candidate recieves in the next few weeks, many candidates drop out after a poor showing in Iowa

Still, it doesn't guarantee a victory, but it can certainly help.
