Students expelled for kissing, too harsh?
Two teenagers have been kicked out of school for kissing on a school bus, and now their families are challenging the decision.Dominique Goyner and his girlfriend were expelled by the Richland County District Two school board in October for the rest of the academic year.
School officials told Jody Free her son was being removed from school for "sexual misconduct."
But Free saw the tape and says it showed the pair kissing for maybe two minutes. Had it been anything different, she said she would have supported the school's decision.
Her son said he knew he was breaking a rule but was shocked by school's response. He says he hopes the expulsion won't stop him from attending a military academy after graduation.

Not at all the best choice of possible (arbitrarily decided) answers. I voted undecided but my mind is fully made up. This is just another of the myriad of examples of bureaucrats playing God. This spineless, gutless class of humanity is too stupid, too lazy, or too cowardly to run for a political office, but thay are, in all-wise no different from the politician in that their desire is to control you and your life. They may actually be the worse of the two breeds of power jockeys, in that they won't run for office, but rather hide in the bureaucratic mirage of civil servantry, where the chances of the "public" getting rid of them is almost nil. One of them definitely has to ef up worse than Hogan's goat to be removed from the tax trough. The only justice that can come out of this is that the parents of both students take the matter to court, the jury have intelligence enough to see into the truth of the matter, and that it brings so much heat and financial burden on the school district that the bumbling imbeciles who formulated the arbitrary policy of punishment are strapped within a financial inch of their lives and fired with prejudice too boot. The citizens of this nation have lost it completely when they allow such blatant stupidity of civil servantry to become the norm and do not immediately demand a retraction, an apology, and an express, rapid departure of the miscreant servantry. -

c'mon! are you for real? first of all this rule is way ridicoulus, and the punishemet- um.. hello!!! this is crazy!! why???
this way half of my school should be expeled. it's a stupid rule, that's what teenagers do, they kiss, heck even older people kiss in public.
and this is no way a right thing they did! i'm still in shock that anyone would expel students for that, oh, i guess shooting is ok and fighting, but just as long as you dont kiss? no way! -

Answered No! They kewn the rules, show no mercy!
'he knew he was breaking a rule but was shocked by school's response.'
My first inclination is the rules were clear, you understood, discussion over. Second inclination, this was not a peck on the cheek or a quick touch of the lip- 2 minutes implies they were testing the limits. I would say a minimum fine would be both write [seperately ] a 10 page essay on relationships and the importance of responsibility within the relationship. Maximim should be 1-2 weeks suspension, they be responsible to make up missed work.
As it is they knew the ruling, tested the waters, and now must bite the bullet. -

Kissing is a natural act between a boy and a girl. This behavior should not be punished at all. What road is this country going down anyway? I am not happy with the trends that are taking place. They pass out condoms at school but punish kissing, what idiots? -

There's kissing, and there's KISSING. A peck or two, no prob. But a two-minute lip lock (with possible accompanying moves) is pushing it. As for the other issue, there are school rules, and then there are.... oh well, that's all.
If he knew the rules, and the rules included being dismissed from school as a punishment, then he's got no complaint. If the guidelines or the consequences were murky, he should respectfully appeal to the school for leniency. -

I think this is silly. come on they are 16 its like they were kissing and doing more. I bet there are more kids that have done more then kiss in schools. This is dumb and because of this it might mess up his future. So much for this world wanting a better a future for our kids. -

I'm undecided because there wasn't quite enough information given to form an opinion. The video stated they were kissing AND necking. How far did they take the necking? What kind of kissing are they doing that took 2 minutes? It sounds like, from the video's description, they should have taken it to the bedroom -- I'm not advocating child sex, only a figure of speech. If the rules of the school state this is the punishment for their conduct or any students behaving in such a manner, the school has the right to carry out the punishment. The parent in this situation, I would think, would be a little bit alarmed that their child is putting on such a display in front of other children, especially if there are elementary students on this bus too.
Anyway, I stay undecided as there isn't enough information to form a good opinion. -

What is their problem? Oh my gosh...Stupid people that just have to control everyone and everything. That is not an unusual or disgusting thing to do, it's totally normal. I would NOT accept that if it happend to me. -

So his education is being taken away from him because he was kissing?
pffffffft
in my school kids were constantly late to class because they were caught making out in the hallways
the worst they got was in school suspension

I wonder if this was the first time he was caught doing something like this. If it was the first time this punishment was way too harsh. There was a girl in Illinois recently that was suspended because she hugged her friends goodbye for the weekend. If people aren't taking the word Christmas out of Christmas songs they're punishing people for hugging. What are we coming to?
