1951 Disney's Goofy cartoon - Do you think this cartoon inspired kids to smoke?

I love all the old school Disney cartoons. But this one has grabbed my attention. Watch it and give your 2 cents!

Answered Heck no! This is an educational cartoon that teaches kids about nicotine addiction.

Please, kids know better and a cartoon isn't going to convince them to start smoking.

I don't recall this cartoon, but remember a young bell boy announcing "Call for Phillip Morris". I also recall a Marlboro commercial with the sexy Julie London playing the piano and singing. After watching this, I did go out and buy a pack of Marlboros.

    therefore, I don't.
watching the whole cartoon, you can see the foolishness of addiction. I and my brothers watched the early Disney cartoons constantly. Walt Disney always showed the force and the power of Responsibility and the results of Irresponsibility.
Some may challenge the approaches he used, but he was real.

Answered Of course it did! Forget Camel Joe, Goofy makes me want to smoke!

It made me want a smoke!

but yeah seriously they talk about all of the enjoyment that one gets out of smoking, then they show goofy try to quit and he cant because its "so good" at least thats my impression.

If a kid saw this they would probably think smoking was very cool and relaxing like portrayed in the cartoon... they made it look very enjoyable in the cartooniest way possible..

and yeah he totally asked that last guy for some weed man!

some people just smoke knowing the risks anyway, this video only helps some kids, others will grow up smoking and spend way to much on just cigs

The begining concerns me a little but I think this cartoon does a good job of making smokers look like fools. This should be watched with parental guidance.

..the title says otherwise..but the way they seem to have an 'enjoyed' look on their faces after a puff would probably encourage kids...

it neat! have no problem with that, kids have their common sense. that's isn't so bad cartoon.

no wonder I'm old school, I do understand this cartoon. but now days they take it wrong way. they need to teach their kids first hand before watch cartoon. so kids will have their common sense.

    That's kinda odd...
But you have to remember: There was more freedom of what could be put on TV back then rather than nowadays. They didn't restrict cigarette ads or cartoons like such.
This cartoon could be taking either way: showing kids how addicting smoking is and how bad it is for you, or encouraging them to do it.

    Answered Hmm??? I think:

Think of the time of this cartoon, everyone smoked then it isn't uncommon for this type of stuff to appear. I'm not sure if it's either good or bad. It can be taken either way depending on the viewer, especially children.
