Should the government in Massachusetts allow the people to vote on the issue of same-sex/gay marriage?

Massachusetts Democrats killed an effort to let voters decide on a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Now the Democrats want to repeal a law that prohibits homosexual marriage. The Democrats won't let either law go before the people.

Because I don't think it should even be an issue. I think that gay people should have the right to "marry." Call it a civil union...call it whatever you want....but they should have the same rights as hetero couples do as far as healthcare, death benefits, children, etc....
Separation of church and state...god may say that it's wrong....but not everyone believes in god, so why should they have to abide by his laws?

No men marrying other men isn't common in history because it has never been allowed. Men being hanged for loving other men or lynched, or arrested is commone in history. Glbt people have been around since the begining of time, unfortunalty through most of history we have had to be in the closet for our personal safety. Also no one is making you marry someone of the same sex so how is this forcing a belief on you.

well, we stole this land from the American Indian. We completely disrupted their lifestlye. They were here first. Why aren't we worshipping the sun? That doesn't seem to bother you.

It is a thing the people of the state should have a say in! OR the officials the elect should make the decision and if they make the wrong one they may not be re-elected!

The people wanted to have a say. The politicians didn't let them. I agree that politicians should make the laws most often. So I asked about it this time.

2487 years ago, 300 Spartans routed a force of 20,000 persians at the battle of Thermopylae, being killed in the process, but paving the way for further Greek victories. This allowed democracies to later flourish in Greece, then Rome. The American system was modeled after these democracies. And for most of 150-200 years, The USA has stood alone, save for a few, among other Staes, those that had writhed in the terrible grasp of Tyranny until now, and IN THIS COUNTRY, we have people acting to restrict this Democratic system? It is a government by the people, for the people, so the matter should be put before the people as a vote.

this is gonna sound like im against gay marrage but i could really care less.. but the fact is that marrage was and is a bond of a man and woman in the eyes of God.
fact is man and man cannot fit this bill.. Marrage has nothing to do with strait or gay or law even. Its about God.. Without God there would be no marrage. Without Man and Woman there would be no marrage. Man and man cannot be actually married anyway. neathier can Woman and Woman. Its imposable. Period. God doesent alow that and he is the one who marries you and bonds you. Period.

Okay I am not going to even comment on most of it! I will behave myself. My question is, if God doesn't allow that and HE is the one who marries you and bonds you...why aren't you loudly screaming that the government needs to stay out of religion in this matter and that it should be on a church level to decide! We disagree on most of what you said, I am a gay man who has lived a life because of the view you have...the homosexual community is suffering because there is no consequence if someone leaves their "monogomous partner". I walked in and found someone else inside my partner in OUR bed! I had to leave with NOTHING or stay and deal with it! Eventually I left with NOTHING other than my clothes AFTER supporting him while he refused to work!!! He is now a huge name celebrity and was NOTHING then!!! I guess it's easier as a woman who a husband can walk in and see that to know she can STILL walks away with half and gets the children, and the pets and everything else she wants to have that opinion! A man can love a man more intensely than you would ever understand! A woman can love a woman more intensely than you would ever understand! And the Bible actually speaks more against heterosexual's sexual sins than he does about homosexual's sexual sin! There are hundreds of more mentions of the sexual sins of heterosexuals! I am not thinking you are judgemental, I just think that you aren't open-minded enough to understand! Hopefully I am not offending you in saying this...keep i...

Any religious organization has a right to refuse to marry anyone.
  • raves     [-] by msliz0
Hey Shrliey, then don't you think that it is between the individual and God? I believe we all will have our own judgement day and it will have NOTHING to do with any other human being there and it should have nothing to do with any other human here. God does not condemn and neither should anyone on this earth. Plain and simply, it's not their job and frankly, not their business.

The people of the state should have the right to choose what they want in their state. It's all just a matter of some freedoms.

Let 'em vote, hopefully the citizenry will not act as "stupid" as the people they elected to serve them...Wait I just proved they should not vote . They could have an election to see if they should have an election. Then lawyers can challenge the results of the election in court. This could go on for years and the lawyers will be the only ones getting paid. What?
  • raves     [-] by msliz0
You enforce the law? Frightening. Would that be judicial law or your law? Your deputy dawg badge ought to be taken away from you for that stupid comment.
