A woman is suing a bar and a group of friends of a girl who drank herself to death celebrating her 21st birthday. Apparently, she was often drunk. She had two drunken-driving arrests on her record.
On the night in question the girl passed out at the bar and friends took her to an apartment. One friend put her to bed at about 12:15 a.m., and four of them checked on her about 15 minutes later, according to the suit. She had been unconscious for about an hour and had vomited twice when a friend placed her on her left side and left her alone. Next morning they found her dead.

Answered YES. They should have known she had alcohol poisoning and taken her to the hospital.
First I have saved people and seen people saved from alcohol poisioning its not a pretty sight I do believe people should take responsibility for their actions. However The bartender should have known when to to cut them off in the first place!
Second I bet you this what happened they were to scared of getting in trouble didnt take her to the hospital and thought she could just sleep it off....just because they have Boobs doesnt mean they have a brain!
Third from what I experienced its always the fools that drink like gorillas, they think they have to get drunk with in a short amount of time...its not how fast you drink it, its how much you drink!
I do believe the bar and her friends at fault as well as her hopefully they all pay she has, but I also believe her bad mothering was an issue hense the uncontrollable child so she shouldnt get any money at all!!!! -

This is indeed a tragedy. But it is the woman own fault. As far as the bartender's responsibility, when I drank and was cut off, I just had friends to get more drinks for me. A busy bartender can not possibly baby sit the entire bar. Everyone is drunk, no one is thinking clearly. The only bright side is that she wasn't driving and killed someone truly innocent. -
Answered NO. She should sue the bar, but not the friends. The bartender should have known better.
at a certain age (21) the bar is at fault. they should have stopped service this young lady. they (bartenders) are supposed to be aware of the condition of patrons...it is a sad story.. -

This acctualy almost happened to my niece, so I can understand where the mother is comming from, but at the same time, my niece was younger. If you are old enough to drink you are old enough to accept responsability....isn't that what the "Legal" drinking age is for?? I think it is the bartenders responsability both moraly and legaly to cut someone off before that point....and the friends should have kept closer tabs on her (If they were really her friends anyway). But I do not think a law suit is in order. Many people die in drunk driving accidents each year and very rarely does anyone go after the source in that kind of deal. My niece was 15 years old when she drank herself into the hospital about a year ago. She was at a friends house and the alcohol was the hosts. The only reason she is still alive is because of her friends and there alertness to the fact that she was in trouble. They called her mom and 911. She spent several days passed out...they werent sure she was going to make it. In the end...my sister had every right to sue the parents and she didnt....because even at 15, she expects a level of responsability from her children, and does not hold others responsable legaly....though I will say the parents of the friends that threw the party where all but sued. In fact she went as far as to post it in the local news paper so that other parents knrew about the danger. -

Problem or not...it's not the friends responsibility to monitor an adult.
Even with 2 DUIs under her belt, maybe neither she, nor her friends, thought she had a drinking problem. The girl was 21, and should have known better.
If she was that drunk, chances are the friends weren't in any better shape. -

the friends knew she had a drinking problem...they should not have encouraged it....or partook in it.....also...i think that if anyone has brains ...they know that if someone is puking while passed out...there is a serious issue going on...i can say i am honestly on the fence about this..... -

maybe someone should have called the girls mother and told her how drunk she was so she could have went and spent the night with her and kept an eye on her, or one of the friends should have stayed with her, soundsl like someone should have helped her to get into AA if she drank that bad...... -

The friends should sue the mother for not getting help for a habitually drunk girl and for not raising her better. Everyone will blame everyone but the girl who made the decision to drink too much. It's always someone else's fault. -

People need to take responsibility for themselves. It's not like the bar or her friends poured it down her throat. That is what is wrong with this country everyone is sue happy. No one takes responsibility for their own actions. From the article it sounds like this girl had a drinking problem to begin with. Maybe her Mother should look towards herself for not being able to stop under age drinking. If she couldn't stop her daughter from drinking what makes her think her friends or a bartender can? And why would it be their fault the girl drank herself to death?
