Am i stupid for not realising that Ocarinas actually existed?

am i the only one who thought they were just a fun item made up for zelda games or are they just a deeply underground thing.

    I've had plenty of people walk up to me while i was playing mine and ask "WTH is that? ive plenty people walk playing wth
    They're actually quite fun, and easy to learn.

    It's not entirely because of the game that I started playing, but it did have a slight sway in the decision.

    i always wanted the flute (which is actually an ocarina) from zelda 3 so i can call the birdy to take me to a distant land
