What is Art .... ?
.... What is an Artist ?
ART has not always been what we think it is today. An object regarded as Art today may not have been perceived as such when it was first made, nor was the person who made it necessarily regarded as an artist. Both the notion of "art" and the idea of the "artist" are relatively modern terms.
Many of the objects we identify as art today -- Greek painted pottery, medieval manuscript illuminations, and so on -- were made in times and places when people had no concept of "art" as we understand the term. These objects may have been appreciated in various ways and often admired, but not as "art" in the current sense.
ART lacks a satisfactory definition. It is easier to describe it as the way something is done -- "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others" (Britannica Online) -- rather than what it is.

Answered A combination of the above options describe my artistic pursuits.
I'm a musician, I'm a photographer, I love to paint, I love playing with make-up, drawing and colouring are both fun, and digital art is yet another thing I do.
Am I an artist?
No.
I'm an art student.
I learn about all these things but I doubt I'll ever be an artist, because an artist is someone who is truely talented and skilled in one or more of these things. Someone who either knows all there is to know (impossible) or someone who is able to break the rules and get away with it.
Oh, you all forgot to put "creative writing" as an option, it's an art form (and yet another thing I do in my spare time). -
Answered I paint! - acrylics, oil and/or other natural dyes.
I haven't painted in awhile but my medium of preference is water color paints. Although I have never been to school for cake decorating, people frequently ask me to make them for special occasions. -

I can pretty much fit into all of those except the musician role. Sculpting, I havent done in a while but I miss it. Its all such a stress reliever, its really the only time I can really focus. Creating art makes me feel better about life. -
Answered Musician - music can move soul, better than a visual piece of art.
I have played music for almost 45 yrs im 52 now and in my family we all played something As children bros and sis fight but mom knew if they started to play we were off and running for our instruments except me my drums were always up Everyone is an Artist Everyone -
Answered None of the above
I write - and that is another form of art is it not? Perhaps I don't draw or paint on a canvas for all to see the image I've created - but I do draw and paint on the canvas of other people's imaginations. The images they create for themselves based upon what I write are unique to each and every one of them - but it is no less an expression of my art. And no - I didn't take offense to writers not being included on the poll lol - I was simply illustrating a point. So yes - I would say I'm an artist. Now - am I a hugely successful artist? LOL - How I wish! -
Answered I use the computer to show off my talent (graphics and/or design).
It took many years to finally realize I had a hidden talent. I believe art is what you perceive. Whether it be in your mind, or your heart. I create from both. Some people I have come across in the past think computer art is not true art, or it is to easily done. It is just as passionate and emotional on the screen as it is on canvas or paper. But these individuals could'nt prove anything for the simple reason, they never tried to create art on the screen. I have had people look at my digital art, and they could not tell if it was a photograpgh or not. But all in all, there is more to art than just oils, pastels, pottery, etc. Just look around you, and the world is full of art. -
I took computer art in college and my professor was and established computer artist he has done shows in New York ..I can't think of his name right now..but he was awesome..it isn't an easy form to master either..some of my classmates were great I was not..we had to create our own music video and create our own music for it with a sensitisers..it was so hard....it was our final so we had to do it..mine was barely passing..so I know it is art..it takes a great deal of talent and imagination...kudos to you!

And to mention everyone is pretty much an artist in one way, shape, or form. Even the cloths you choose to wear defines you as an artist in a way. A different outfit is a different creation.
