They are only out for themselves. The little guy doesn't matter at all to them. Can say the same things about my senators. They both voted Nay also. The need to get rid of the death tax all together. It is another tax that goes after the hard working people of this country. The congress needs to figure out how to tax us less not more. They had the chance with the bill to put an ear mark on pork spending and they didn't pass that one either. WE need new people in DC. I know my senators are up this time around I won't be voting for them They have been voting against us I refuse to support them now. -

They could care less about anyone other than themselves. And I think it is terribly unfair for this government to penalize people who have worked and worked hard by screwing them and their families after they die with these death taxes. Because of this, I was forced to sell farm land that my dad had willed to me. -
raves +1 Mar 25, 2008 11:08PM GMTAlexis, I am so sorry for your loss on both accounts, your father and the farm that I'm sure he spent YEARS building only to have this ridiculous tax take it away from you. This is exactly what I am talking about in my post below. As I stated there, this tax affects farmers and business owners and their families, not the richest 2% as someone else stated.

Believe me, it was very hurtful whenever I was forced into selling my land because of that tax....and then seeing people like this couple I know through church who decided to be irresponsible and have 8 kids between themselves, unmarried and neither worked for a few months recently getting $1200 worth of food stamps a month on an ongoing basis. I worked 2 jobs to support my family then to have my inheritance treated like this is just unfair.

The "Death Tax" is an unreasonable and unconstitutional penalty assessed upon the estate of someone who has already paid taxes on the real property and income that were used to create the estate in the first place, not just the income, if any, created by the estate. This includes, not only a business and it's assets, but the decedents home, furnishings and any savings. In todays economy, it doesn't take owning a business to qualify for the "Death Tax." Just owning a large home in a nice area, having furniture in it and a couple of cars can qualify you for the death tax. The IRS doesn't look at how much is owed on a piece of property when they add it to the assets, they only look at how much it's worth. For a farmer or rancher, their death can ruin the family business since their assets include a home, furniture, personal vehicles, the property the farm relies on to grow crops or feed their live-stock, and the equipment and vehicles necessary to maintain the property and harvest crops. Ask any farmer how quickly that all adds up to over $2,000,000.00! Just the property alone can be valued at more than that, even though the family does not actually have that kind of money and would have to liquidate the entire estate just to pay the taxes on it. Yep, that sounds like a fair and ...The "Death Tax" is an unreasonable and unconstitutional penalty assessed upon the estate of someone who has already paid taxes on the real property and income that were used to create the estate in the first place, not just the income, if any, created by the estate. Yep, that sounds like a fair and equitable tax that only affects the top 2% of the population, doesn't it? Actually, it's just another way for the government to make people more dependent on it and to discourage creating wealth or even a decent inheritance for your children. Why bother when the government is just going to take it away from them when you die?(less) -

raves +1 Mar 24, 2008 09:35PM GMTWe have to find a way to generate jobs that pay enough for people to live on to inspire them to work. We have a compressor factory here that pays $8.00 to $12.00 to full time employees with benefits. Problem is, most employees are part time. With the cost of gas and other things associated with work it is better to stay home and draw a check than work and lose money.

raves Mar 25, 2008 12:09AM GMTThis is a welfare to work program. Problem is, once some of these people work long enough to draw unemployment the drag around to get fired. They are having some trouble competing quality wise with the Mexican plant because of turnover so they will probably end up closing it down.

raves +2 Mar 31, 2008 01:09AM GMTI have a 18 yr old son. We have been pushing him for nearly a year now to find a job. He had 2 but barely lasted 3 wks on both. Jobs are kind of scarce in our area but he gives me the attitude that he just doesn't care. We are at wits end on this. I have noticed with friends of his they all act the same. Seems they would rather live with their parents or wander the streets than work for anything. They don't want to work at minimum wage or other jobs a bit higher. But who is going to hire someone who only has a high school education and no ambition? Our society is going down hill. Guess they would rather sell drugs and stuff to make a quick buck than to actually work. What is going to happen to this country when it is their turn to run things, I feel sorry for my grand kids (that I don't have yet)

raves +1 Mar 31, 2008 01:27AM GMTTell him he is going to have to start paying his owne way if he's going to continue to live under your roof. Set a board amount, and what it will cover, food, part of the utilities. etc. From the time I was working, while I lived at home I paid board. It was not out of meanness on my parent's part, it was me making a viabled contribution to the family structure. My option was to move out and fend for my self. 30% of my take home wage went to board. I learned some responsibility, something, it seems, we have taught out of children nowdays.

raves +2 Mar 31, 2008 02:34AM GMTWe had him sign a rent agreement about a month ago. My husband told him if he doesn't have a job when he gets home from the road next time that my son is out. It still hasn't fazed him. I keep pushing and it keeps generating fights. We have taken the car privlages off him since he can't pay for gas. Only to be used for Dr appointments, get meds and groceries, or for job interviews. I am sick of the attitude and so is my husband. It is going to take realising he will be put on the street to wake him up.

raves +2 Mar 31, 2008 03:16AM GMTI can't speak for your situation but I know many here who are facing the same thing. Seems we have raised a generation that believes they are entitled to a good life, and we have done all we can to convince them of that. I have a few friends who's kids went to college graduated and moved back home with no job. Even my wife's nieces and nephews that have moved out rely heavily on their parents to support their lifestyle. My wife's boss uses his kids to get money from his parents and fit in with his click. All that freedom to choose your own path has led to destruction.

raves +2 Mar 31, 2008 05:55AM GMTYou said it we have created a lazy generation. Working hard or doing a good job you can be proud of has gone right past them. When we have my son do some work around the house we follow behind and check how he did, if it isn't he has to do it over. Boy does he hate that. We are just picking on him. boo hoo.

raves +5 Mar 24, 2008 12:57PM GMT (edited)It seems that you need to learn a little more about who is being affected by the "Death Tax." In reality, it does not affect the richest 2% of the population, as you so arrogantly proclaim, since those people know how to protect their fortunes and how to pass them down without incurring large government penalties. The people who are really affected by the "Death Tax" are the small business owners and farmers who have little in the way of cash but have most of their "fortune" wrapped up in equipment and land used to produce their income. The reality is that many families have lost their businesses and most or all of their income due to the "Death Tax" just because the owner of the business passed away. The "Death Tax" kicks in when the estate of the deceased is valued over $2,000,000.00, which in todays economy doesn't even cover a SMALL farm and it's equipment. In order to appease the IRS and the Governments insatiable appetite for our hard earned money, even after we die, these families often have to liquidate businesses that have been in their families for generations, just to pay the "Death Tax" that you seem to think only affects the richest 2%. Educate yourself on the REAL issues before making such ignorant and blatantly wrong statements in the future.

Not being really up on the issue, it looks like our Democrat candidates are all about taxing those who can least afford it. It seems that it was voted on along party lines. . . Where is all of this change that these candidates are talking about. Oh I see, no change until they are elected. What bald faced liars these Democratic candidates are. . . -
raves +5 Mar 23, 2008 10:55PM GMTLet me see, charged me more for gasoline that was produced from oil purchased from countries that are sworn to kill is or ruin us economically. Taken energy subsidies that cover any tax they might have to pay. Capped wells in this country that would eleviate if not eliminated our "OIL SHORTAGE AND DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. Right off the top. Does that help?
