Are you supportive of these smoking bans? Or do you feel people should be allowed to smoke inside if they want to?

Answered I fully support the smoking ban. Smoking is gross
The smoking ban has been inforced in all public places and i think it's great. you can go out and breathe fresh air- if you're in town and pop into the local pub for the loo etc, you dont want to come out smelling like an ashtray. it wouldn't be the first time my mum accused me of smoking (when i hadnt) just because i had to walk through it all to get to the loo! by all means, people can smoke away their own lives and kill themselves slowly- that's their right, but it's not fair for them to kill others with their smoke that don't actually want to die a slow painful death from lung cancer and the likes. i think the ban has worked extremely well. -
if someone is drinking/ taking drugs on the street, that isn't going to kill YOU unless you get involved. Being in your local/your office where people are allowed to smoke is going to affect you whether you want it to or not- it's practically forcing people to breathe in toxic air

When smoking was allowed in clubs in Cali, I would be choking and come home smelling like an ashtray - especially in the clubs that did not have good air ventilation. I don't care if people smoke, but they should do it outside. I don't want to be forced to breathe other people's smoke out in public. It's epecially gross when I visit Vegas and people still smoke in restaurants when you're trying to eat food. -

In New York it's illigal to smoke in restaurants and bars. I really didn't pay too much attention until I traveled to Japan, where smoking is a favorite past time. Attempting to eat while someone else blows smoke all over you is disgusting. I now enjoy the laws here, because people can go outside or to their vehicles and smoke away. -

we got the smoking ban is Scotland over a year before the rest of the UK and so did Northern Ireland so the July 1st one is actually known as the England-Wales smoking ban, not the full UK one! sorry it just bugs me when people think of england as being the UK ;)
ANYWAY, i love the smoking ban, i'm an ex-smoker and now i just can't stand it, breathing cigarette smoke makes me sick. and there are people with illnesses such as cystic fibrosis who couldn't go into pubs when they were filled with smoke as it badly affected their lungs; now they can enjoy an active social life just like other people their age.
the only drawback is now whenever you enter a building you have to walk through the big cloud of smoke made by people standing at the doorway... -

first of all it'll never work, everyone in Europe is a chain smoker, even the people making the laws. I think smokers should be allowed to give in to their addiction at their own leisure. On the other hand I hate having smoke blowing in my face while sitting in a cafe using the wi-fi to download porn, it's very distracting. Maybe they should keep them in plastic cage like they do at Spaceland in Los Angeles. -

I personally find it disgusting, but I think it should be up to the
resturant owner to have the final say in the rules in their bar. It is
their dime on the block, not the governments, except for second hand
smoke, and if you don't get much of it, then that is not much risk
either. -

This should stop people smoking full stop m.. I am all for it .. In the UK on the 1st of July they are banning smoking in ALL public places eg work places ,pubs . I think this is great. Now don't get me wrong i am a smoker, but with no were to smoke i will have to give it up . -
Answered I don't really care
Quit smoking some time ago so I have mixed feelings. I don't like to smell smoke when I am eating, but believe it is a bit hypocritical to ban smoking in bars where folks are damaging their liver and killing brain cells by the millions. Don't drink, dont care if you drink, your choice ! -
Answered I don't support the smoking ban. Let people do what they want
Why not let the bars/restaurants choose whether or not to allow smoking? People go to bars at the end of the day to relax... we cant deny that smoking and drinking kind of go hand in hand (for some, at least). Let people relax with a smoke if they want to. -
Answered I don't really care
I am not a smoker but I always laugh at smoking ban in bars. A place where people ruin there liver night after night yet smoking is not allowed.
I really hate cigarette smoke but I am beginning to wonder why we must persecute smokers. Its gotten pretty bad in California to the point where it is an infringement on persona liberty to be able to smoke in public. -
I can understand having a ban in an office building where people work,
but in a resturant people have a choise as to if they want to eat there
or not. And if you are going to ban it, then give an alternative(and
not the one that UVA hospital has where to get into the ER you have to
walk right through the smoking area.) -
People don't work in restuarants and bars? That's who the ban is ultimately for. What about the waitresses and bar tenders, should they have to go home smelling like someone else's cigarette smoke? I stopped going to bars years ago, because I'd have a headache the next day. I finally figured out, it was the cigarette smoke, not the alcohol.

However, are the employees forced to work there? NO. This is still America, and there is still plenty to choose from for restaurants.(I should know I have been both a waiter and bartender). The ban was not for the workers it was for the other patrons, so they wouldn't have to smell smoke when eating their dinner(at least that was the reason given in VA). The majority of the waiters and bartenders I worked with smoked, so it wasn't a problem for them.

Answered I don't support the smoking ban. Let people do what they want
I prefer freedom over government regulation on this issue. If people don't want to inhale smoke, don't go places that allow smokers. Complain to the restaurant or store and tell them you won't do business there. Vote with your wallet on this one.
People go to bars and suffer the deafening music and abusive drunks, yet complain about smoke?
