Obama's association with Rev. Wright will affect the mainstream American voters in November. Is there a way to control this damage and help Obama from being "swift-boated" in case he becomes the Democratic nominee?
Currently it is very obvious that Obama is the media sweetheart and news Channels such as CNN are in love with Obama. However, once this honeymoon ends swift-boating will begin. In mu opinion it will begin with Obama's "wrong" associations with his pastor Rev. Wright. Can we still hope for damage control, in case Obama is the democratic nominee in November. Unlike Hillary, there is a lot of "unknown" about Obama that will have a bigger impact on mainstream voters.
There is this additional You-tube clip about Wright's hateful preachings that you might check out before voting:

This is what Senator Obama said in his own defense (and in Wright's defense) on Fox News:

But dear friend this is a democracy--while so many support him, if he gets out, his supporters will feel betrayed (and rightfully so). I completely agree with you that Hillary is a better "politician" and will beat McCain in November--therefore it is undemocratic to ask her to leave either. My only point is let us have fair re-elections in Florida and Michigan and if Hillary comes out as winner-- Barack should be given a choice to run as a VP or not run with her. Don't you agree that will look more "unifying" for the Dem. national committee? And better for Hillary too?

First - damn you for making me watch Faux Noise! j/k ;)
He answered the questions satisfactorily, and responded to the situation (again) quickly.
They are going to find something to spin no matter who ends up being the Democratic candidate. I am confident that both Senators Clinton and Obama will be able to handle these attacks and respond quickly and intelligently. -

Answered Undecided
I am a Clinton supporter. However, this is where I think we differ. I think that he did the right thing by standing by the Pastor. I think people forget that the Great Martin Luther King, Jr. made very similar comments about the country in his speech against Vietnam. I think that the Rev. is being singled out. He came from a different time and may have radical views. Hell my father, at times, holds extreme views and I forgive him because I do realize how different we grew up. I don't blame Obama for this man's POV... Does this mean I support Obama? Absolutely not. However, he would make a splendid VP and if I feel this way, how can I buy into the idea that he is someone not to appreciate to some degree. I think he needs more experience in which he can get through on the job training as a VP. -

Answered Clinton is the only viable hope for the democrats if they want to win this November
Although I am not a rabid Clinton fan, I must agree that the ONLY possible candidate left within the Democratic Party that could beat McCain (or get close) would be Hillary.
Obama is CLEARLY incapable of winning in November, unless they outlaw White and Latino Working class voters, and they turn the entire election into a caucus. -

Unfortunately, if Hillary looses, the repugs will have a field day with Obama. He has got just too many ugly skeletons in his closet to do damage control. Number one case in point, Wright! Number two case in point, his wife, Michelle. -

Educated Americans, except those who had lied through the last 8 years to betray America and the Americans, are smart enough to use their own brains and research for the truth. The same fear propaganda tactics that has betrayed America and the American People won't work for good, decent and smart Americans. Fear propaganda works for the same idiots of the last 8 tears, and these same idiots who are too dumb enough to learn their lessons will continue to have America and the Americans betrayed for 4 more years....They have been used to betray America and the american people and they will be again used to continue betraying America and the Americans people. Very sad...
By the way those Rovian thoughts, like the questioner Archie's paranoid fear tactics, don't work for the smarter Americans. Only the same idiots led by the Rovian pipers in the last 8 years may believe in the same old Swift Boat tactics that had betrayed America. -

I can actually understand your logic...believe it or not despite your prejudice. You talk about being intelligent..looks like you are incapable of reading the common voter here. My poll is in no way slanted-- I have given all the right choices and my question is about damage control. -

Obama should respond immediately and forcefully to every attack, and then move on, not dwell on the attacks. John Kerry's mistake, and Dukasis' mistake before him, was to ignore attacks, thinking the public would not buy those dirty tricks. Kerry waited much to long to start responding to the Swift Boat liars attacks. -
raves +3 Apr 22, 2008 04:43PM GMTVery good point. Kerry should have jumped on it immediately. If Obama does win I would think he would respond differently than Kerry did. I am not looking forward to the creativity that will ensue in November. I am sure they have been working on some even dirtier tricks.

Obama may be the media sweetheart for the moment but that could turn on a dime if he does win the nod.. in fact it will get really rough. What made his campaign think he would be immune to the scrutiny and ultimately the big bad swiftboat? The results of being a rookie are showing. He is no saint.. or an outsider. His judgment & associations give the republicans plenty of fodder & there will be more to come. This is all so very predictable since he is not vetted or proven. He will go from saint to sinner in a very big way come November. How to counter that? Throw support to the stronger candidate! The race hasn't been won yet.
Hillary fully vetted & can weather the storm.. but that is not the only reason to hope that she will win. She is hands down.. the best person for the job. -

I honestly believe Clinton is the best shot the Democrates have at gaining the White House not for just four but eight years. The mess Bush has created and will leave behind will not be cleaned up by a one term President which is what I feel Obama is at best. I agree that there is still much to come out about Obama and it will in time, much to the dismay of his supporters. The "Change" Obama is calling for will not happen because Washington itself will not change nor will World leaders. I, for one, can not support Obama. I will not do that to my country.
